Satsang Balwant Ganesh Khaparde

Balwant Ganesh Khaparde

Born in Amrawati to Ganesh and Lakshmi Bai S Khaparde. Both parents were devoted to Baba; spiritually advanced, and very affluent. His home was more like a palace replete with cooks, clerks, watchmen; and 8 grooms or Sykes. They had two bullock carts, one cowherd, and maids. His parents often gave shelter to needy families and students. On an average there were twelve to fifteen students perusing education in their home. There were about 50 people living there excluding the children. His mother was a gracious hostess. She treated every one equally. In Sai Satcharita #7 ‘the wonderful leela of the plague is given’. Khaparde writes in his diary on 8-1-1912 , that Baba got extremely angry and abused violently. “It appears that plague is likely to reappear here”

It was Balwant who started shivering with high fever. This made his mother very restless. She came to Baba to seek permission to take the child home. Baba gently said, “The sky is over cast, but it will rain, bringing forth a harvest, and the clouds will melt away”; and lifting His Kafni showed her four egg sized buboes in His groin.” See I have to take upon myself all your sufferings”. At Aarati Baba cursed violently at the plague. He also said that He had saved Balwant. Balwant remained sick for three weeks, on 8-2-1912 he was well enough to go to Dwarakamai, and place his head on Baba’s feet.

Balwant and his elder brother came to Shirdi on 5-12-1910 . They brought baskets of fruits and garlands for Baba. Balwant often sat on Baba’s lap and asked Him to tell him stories and Baba obliged. Khaparde was a politically marked man, so Baba kept him at Shirdi. Thus his law practice dwindled and Balwant got a taste of poverty. On one hand he lost the luxuries of life, but got to spend a lot of time with Baba, and received His blessings.

The Khaparde’s had three sons. They were Bahu Saheb [Devidas], Baba Saheb [Balkrishna] and Anna Saheb [Balwant Rao]

Satsang Ramchandra M Adkar

Ramchandra M Adkar

Ram Chandra was born in the village Sadda, in Sholapur district, ; to Madhav Rao Vaman and Ganga Bai Adkar on 14.3.1915. Madhav Rao was an ascetic by nature and often went on pilgrimage to Pandharpur. Once Madhav Rao went to Shirdi and was serving Baba. One day when he was in Dwarakamai with Baba, Baba, said “Madhav Rao, two men will come to take you home, you better go. You will beget a son, and you should name him Ram.” A short while latter his father-in-law and father came to Dwarakamai. Both pleaded with Baba saying “Baba, do send this Madhav Rao home. Though married he shirks his responsibilities.” Baba replied, “He will accompany you” Thus Madhav Rao went home, a year latter a son was born. He was named Ram Chandra. Ganga Bai brought the young child for Baba’s darshan and blessings. His mother died two years latter and his maternal grand parents brought up Ram.

Ram Chandra studied up to 5th Class in Marathi medium. His father was a linguist and taught him to read and write Urdu. When he grew up he sought the job of a schoolmaster, but was appointed as a head master. Thus he was in charge of four schools. Three months latter he was married to Mathura Bai Kulkarni. They stayed in their father’s home in Barsi; where he continued to work as headmaster. They had two sons and three daughters. He retired in 1972, and in 1980 moved to Pune where he is currently staying.

With Baba’s blessings and grace his children are leading fruitful, and comfortable lives.

Sri Sai Amrit Vani and Prayan of Sai Leelamrit *

Sri Sai Amrit Vani and Prayan of Sai Leelamrit
1st Nov 2007
Jai Sai Ram
Although there was a controvery about the Hoi
Asthme. Weather it is on Thursday or on Friday. However we celebrated
it on Thursday and so Mrs Gupta was on fast and it is considered the
start of festival of Diwali. Every Thursday many devotees place
photos, statues, lockets and documents before Baba. As we have
limited space, Mrs Gupta announced that on 1st Nov and on 8th Nov,
no such thing will be placed before Baba. When two devotees insisted
very much, and they came a day before i.e on Wednesday evening, Mrs
Gupta placed the idols before Baba. Baba was also so kind enough that
HE blessed the idols there and then. Mrs Gupta asked the devotees to
take back the idols back as they have already been blessed. Mrs Gupta
asked the devotees again not to bring any such thing on next Thursday.

Once again I may mention that we receive lots of letters for the
prayers and for the inclusion of the names in the recitation of Sri
Sai Amrit Vani. I want to make some things clear. (i) Every week we
consider letters received upto Wednesday evening (Indian Standard
Time), as it not possible for me to open laptop on Thursdays and
particularly in the morning. (ii) In the list "list of devotees who
recited Sri Sai Amrit Vani", which is appended along with this
letter, we include devotees, who says that they will recite Sri Sai
Amrit Vani in their letters. (iii) They and all other devoteed who
have send the letters for prayer are also prayed for, along with all
the devotees by Mrs Gupta. Sending the reply to individuals is not
possible. Please write self contained complete letters along with the
place. Still I receive many letters without the
place.

Following devotees participated in absencia in
the recitation of Sri Sai Amrit Vani, Pooja, prayers to Baba (
Shirdi) and Prayan of Sri Sai Satcharitra* by reciting Sri Sai Amrit
Vani at their places on 1st Nov 2007 (The list is sorted as per
their email ids, to avoid duplications) . However Mrs. Gupta prayed
for all the devotees. In this list only those devotees are included,
who themselves recited or read Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places.

This Thursday the 1st Nov 2007. we enjoyed the
following Leelas of Baba (of Shirdi).

1. This time Udi started oozing from from Monday from the two
photos on the wall and Hindi words `RAM' `SHAM' and `OM', and
figure of Trishool were formed with Udi on one photo. Udi also
started oozing from the photo and statue in the mandir from
Wednesday and also forming the words `RAM' , `SHAM' and `OM' on the
photo . There was Swastic symbol also formed on the main photo in
the mandir and also on the photo of Laxmi ji, Ganesh Ji and Baba.
2. There was lot of Water from the Charans this Thursday also.
Thali was emptied several times. The taste of water was similar to
gulab jal and kewara mix. After distribution of Prasad, this water
was also given to the devotees and again the Thali was filled with
water.
3. Lap of Mrs. Gupta was filled with lots of Udi during the
prayers.
4. Several devotees had Udi in the books of Sri Sai Amrit Vani
and on themselves during the pooja.
5. On Thursday as soon as Bhog was offered, it was duly accepted
by Baba. We noticed that the Bhog , which was placed before HIM was
partially eaten. Part of Bhog was on the lips of photo and statue
of Baba. Different items were there on lips in different photos.
Parts of the remains in the box were given to the devotees who
offered that item of bhog to Baba.
6. The feeling of Presence of Baba was very strong during the
recitation of Sai Amrit Vani, Pooja and Prayer.
7. All the boxes of Bhog, which were kept on the table were
blessed with Udi.
8. No extra photo/statue and documents etc were placed before
Baba because of lack of space.

Jai Sai Ram

Sri Sai Amrit Vani started at 11:05 AM. Noon
Aartee, the same Aartee which is being recited in Shirdi, started at
12:00 Hrs. followed by brief Meditation and the prayer, Prayan of
Sri Sai Leelamrit Chapter 6 was done . Mrs. Gupta offered prayers
and thanks to Baba. Finally distribution of Prasad and the water from
the Charans. As usual some devotees talked about their experiences.
Some devotee stayed for the lunch and some even after that.

Satsang Gopalrao Somnath Nimonkar

Gopalrao Somnath Nimonkar

Born on Makar Sankrant in Nimon [Sangamner district] to Somnath and Deshpande. He was well educated, studied in SP College Pune, and did BA. LLB. He had mastered Sanskrit, English and Astrology. His father who was a famous astrologer influenced his love for astrology. Besides this he excelled in Yoga, and was highly spiritually evolved.

When his parents took him to Baba as a child, Baba held him in His lap, and covering him with a shawl said, “call him EknathSomnath” which was rather uncomfortable as he had already christened him Gopal Rao. Baba then said, “He is my Eknath.” He is the little boy standing next to Nana Saheb in the Lendi Baugh procession [As vouched by his daughter] photograph taken in 1916.

He prospered and was famous in Ahmednagar for his oratory and law practice. Many students learned about fighting cases from him. And his flare for the English language. Sanskrit however was his love; he would recite the Vishnu Sahasranam, Rudra Abhisek and various Suktas in a deep resonant voice, filling his home with sanctified vibrations. For 22 years he and his fellow lawyers did Padyatra, from Eknath’s Paithan to Matherdev [Pathardi district] on Maha Shivrathri, he performed Rudra Abhisek. Was it any wonder that Baba called him” My Eknath.”

He survived his first heart attack the age of 73. Then at age 84 took Samadhi on 19th December 1997 . He will always be remembered by us Baba devotees for being instrumental in continuing the sacred tradition of taking the flag from Pune to Shirdi on Ram Navami day.

Satsang Bappaji Lakshman Ratna Parke

Bappaji Lakshman Ratna Parke

His forefathers were experts in evaluating precious stones and diamonds for the Peshwas hence the surname Ratna Parke. They were Brahmins and pujaris by profession. They migrated to Shirdi and made it their home. Bappaji was born in Shirdi to Laxman and Yamuna Ratna Parke in 1886. His father was the village priest and astrologer.

Since he knew Baba from child hood he had free reign of the Dwarakamai. Most of his time he spent with Baba. Baba loved him deeply, and often they would be found playing together. He started doing Baba’s seva from 1910. Bappaji went to the Marathi school and studied up to7th standard. He was very proficient in indigenous medicines. He would treat the villagers for minor illness. He lived in the very same house, that is now behind the Vithal Mandir When he was about 14years, he and his friend Bayaji used to help Baba when He bathed. They would scrub and wipe His back, ears and body.

His father was a very orthodox Brahmin, and rigid in his ways. Once Bappaji was extremely sick and at deaths door, his father ran to Baba for a cure. Baba cursed and shouted violently, a little later Baba went to his home. He laid His hand of benediction on his fore head, and he was cured. This incident further strengthened his faith and devotion. Tatya Saheb Nulkar was seriously sick with diabetic carbuncles and could not go for Baba’s darshan. He yearned to see Baba. That afternoon Bappaji went to Dwarakamai to sit and chat with Baba. A few kids were teasing Baba at that time. Just then a hawker passed by selling cloth. Bappaji looked at the beautiful pieces and asked Baba if he could buy one. Baba said “yes”. He bought a red brocade piece and tied it around his head. Baba playfully pinched his cheeks, so he took the cloth and placed it on Baba’s head Baba acted like a child and put it back on Bappajis head. This went on for some time and wonder of wonders Tatya Saheb could see this beautiful scene from Sathe Wada.

As an adolescent Bappaji would go and sit against the wall of Dwarakamai. Whenever Baba had “Handi” Annadaan waiting for prasad, he watched Baba cook “Mitha Chawal” [sweet rice] with His bare hands without a twinge of pain or a trace of burns. At other times Baba would make ‘16 padari poli.’

That is to make 16 layered rotis. Almost an impossible task. Then roast them on the Dhuni.
On the days that Baba bathed, He would ask him to bring pots of hot and cold water. Then mixing it to the right temperature He bathed. Bappaji and Bayaji would take turns to scrub Baba’s back with the bathing stone. He states that Baba wore Pitambar after His bath, and tied His Kaupin so fast that, they could not make out how He did it. Later He would change into His Kafni.

He says that Baba had about Rs 500, daily. He gave Bayaji Rs10, from which he had to purchase wood for Dhuni Maa. Ramchandra Dada got Rs 15 for sugar cane. Often Baba would say “Sab paise ke Bhai.Apna koi nahi”[Roughly Translated] “Every one belongs to wealth, We belong to no one”

On 19.5.1917 Lokmanya Tilak and Khaparde came for Baba’s darshan Bappaji was with Baba. When Baba took Maha Samadhi on 15 10.1918. He was in Dwaraka mai Baba sent the anxious and concerned home. But a few devotees stayed behind Bappaji was one of them. His father Laxman Pujaris did the Kakad Aarati the next day [Sai Satcharita # 43 ]

Satsang Anna Saheb Karindkar

Satsang Anna Saheb Karindkar

This gem of a devotee was born in Dhanu Road station in Shake 1772 [1851] He died at age 81 on 24th march 1931 at 2.30 a.m in Malyan [Dhanu road station] He was conscious till the end. He seemed to know that his end was near. He summoned his entire family and asked them to sing Baba’s Aarati and Naam Jap. His wish was to read the Shrimad Bhagvat Gita and this was done.

Anna Saheb studied up to 7th standard Marathi medium; and discontinued because his eyes hurt terribly. But his love for reading, only seemed to increase. His home had a well-stocked library. It contained numerous books both religious and non-religious, magazines of every kind and of course the newspaper. A philanthropist, social worker, and educationist he spent his life doing good for the community. Averse to doing a job and working for others he took up farming.

From the yields of the farm, he often donated, grain to, the needy, temples, and various agencies, and to people for functions.

The Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan and Sai Leela Magazine were his favorite projects. Ever since the first Sai Leela Magazine was published he subscribed to it, and prevailed upon others to do the same. Needless to say, that he preserved each and every Magazine date wise, very carefully. Further, he advertised, and made announcements of weddings, ceremonies, and other occasions, thus paying for them. It made him happy, that by doing so the Magazine, got funds. Time and again he sent donations through Dev to the Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan. Like an accountant he set money aside, and sent it to the Sansthan, for every festival celebrated in Shirdi. Upon subscribing 100 Rs, he became a member of the Sansthan. He then sent 100 Rs, for each of his sons. Shri Krishna Janardhan, Keshev Mahadev, and Haribhau Karnik. Thus he got his sons to become members, perforce. Once he had gone to Nana Saheb Chandorkars house, there he found Das Ganu’s Bhakta Leelamrit; and Sant Leelamrit lying about and uncared for. After taking permission from Nana Shaeb, he sold them for 150 Rs. He sent that money to Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan, as a subscription for Nanas two sons.

Baba’s Grace enveloped him, and Baba came to his home through a Photograph. The wonderful Leela is given here. Keshav Ganesh Joshi was his Son-in- law. Keshev got a portrait of Baba painted through the owner of Gyan Sagar Litho Press. He asked Kaka Saheb Mahajini for help, as Keshev liked the portrait that Kaka had. And he wanted a similar one. Thus a beautiful portrait was painted. Then he got it framed with a rich colored wood. When it was ready, and he was satisfied. he, and BV Dev took it home. With due rituals it was hung on the wall. A few months later Dev visited Anna Sahib’s home in Dhanu. He was very surprised to see that very same portrait in his home. Curious about this he asked Anna how that portrait came to his home. Anna said “As you well know that Joshi, brought this portrait home, and hung it on the wall, and a few days later he, had a dream. Baba told him “Take me to Dhanu, and give this portrait to Anna” Joshi had no choice, as it was Baba’s wish.” Needless to say that Anna performed Morning and Evening Aarti, daily. Chanted the Vishnu Sahasranam, offered Naivedya, and lovingly took care of it.

Satsang Sakharam Hari Alias Bapu Saheb Jog.

Satsang Sakharam Hari Alias Bapu Saheb Jog.

Bapu Saheb was a kind and gentle man, but because of his position of power, and his dealings with the labor force he looked stern. But he did have a quick temper. Baba, slowly but surely changed this. He lived frugally and had quite a bit of money saved. Baba knew that he was egoistic about his wealth. So on the pretext of Dakshina Baba kept demanding Dakshina again and again from him till he was depleted of all his savings. Bapu Saheb learned a valuable lesson. His routine every month was to collect his pension from Kopergaon, pay his dues to the shopkeepers, and what ever remained he would place before Baba. Baba trusted him immensely and would often give His money to him, for safekeeping. Bapu Saheb would keep the money safely, and was constantly aware of Baba’s money. When the need arose Baba would ask him to buy this or that from it. Baba would often give him Rs100, and a few days latter jokingly say “Bapu Saheb I gave you Rs 125 a few days ago. Go and fetch it.” Bapu Saheb would tell Baba that He had given him only Rs100. This happened a few times, and Bapu Saheb indignantly said “Baba I don’t want to be involved with Your money business. Keep Your money with someone else” Baba would then pacify him saying “ Bapu Saheb don’t get angry! I made a mistake, it was Rs 100 okay” Once a devotee gave Baba a guinea. Baba gave to Bapu Shaeb and said, “What is this?” He told Baba that it was a guinea or equivalent to 15 Rs. Baba said, “it is worth 30 Rs you keep it and give Me 30 Rs”.

Bapu Saheb looked after Baba’s affairs, after Megha’s death on 19.1. 1912, he was given the honour of performing Baba’s Aarati till Baba’s Niryan in 1918. All the Seva that Megha used to perform fell on Bapu Saheb’s shoulders. Like Baba’s Aarati in Dwarakamai, evening Aarati in Sathe Wada, Aarati in Dixit Wada, and Guru Paduka Sthan. Bapu Saheb took his duties very seriously usually there were a substantial number of devotees present for the Aarati. However if there were a few or none at all, it did not bother Jog, he conducted the Aarati with devotion and zeal. The couple led a life of austerity; they were up at the crack of dawn. After bathing in cold water, they performed ‘puja’ to their household deities. Followed by religious rituals, and reading of the Pothi, then they went to the Dwarakamai for Baba‘s darshan. Bapu Saheb stayed at Baba’s side doing all the chores required. Tai went home, prepared the prasad for the Aarati and looked after the innumerable guests that Baba sent.

Tai was the epitome of “Bhakti”. She was intensely devoted to Baba. Her love for her ‘Guru’ was so passionate that after Baba’s Niryan she lost self control. She wandered the streets of Shirdi aimlessly, as if searching for her Guru. She had a vacant look on her face, oblivious of her surroundings. So desolate was she that she died two months later.

Once Bapu Saheb asked Baba, as to when He would give him Sanyas. Baba replied, “As soon as you are free of your worldly responsibilities” Thus Bapu Saheb was now free. He stayed on at Shirdi for a few years and looked after Baba’s Samadhi. After Kaka Saheb Dixit’s death the other devotees left Shirdi. Being quite alone he decided to go to Sakori. There he wore a Kafni, and took Sanyas. His decision to go to Sakori is perplexing, as he and Upasani never had a cordial relationship. Once he dragged Upasani and brought him to Dwarakamai. Then he proceeded to tell Baba about the disagreement and asked Baba to be the judge. Never the less at Sakori he attended to Upasani with the same devotion, as he had for Baba.

As he had died a Sanyasi, his Samadhi lies in front of the Upasani Ashram in Sakori.
