Shyamdas and Dwarka

A group of pilgrims along with Shyamdas set out to Dwarka by steamer. Shyamdas had the tickets for the steamer along with his money in a purse, while the tickets for the ferry boat had been separated and kept in his pocket. That evening, while he stood at the railing of the steamer, his purse accidentally fell into the sea. The Officials of the steamer, when told about it, were considerate, as he had tickets for the onward journey. But, having no money posed a problem.

That night, Gopal Giridhar (Shyamdas’s father) had a vivid dream. A Fakir came into his bedroom and awakened him by shaking him. “Send money to your father at Dwarka”, he said. Giridhar looked around but found nobody. Then he fell asleep again. Again, the same Fakir appeared and rather angrily said, “I told you to send money to your father. He is stranded there, while you are sleeping.” This time he got up and went to the door to look for the Fakir. But, the door was locked and there was no Fakir anywhere.

He sat up and thought over the dream, then realized that his father must be in trouble, and stranded at Dwarka. That very day, he had received some money from an insurance company. He decided to send that money to Shyamdas. He waited anxiously for daybreak and then sent the fifty rupees. Shyamdas was pleasantly surprised to receive the money and completed the pilgrimage with ease. Upon returning from Dwarka, he met Giridhar and asked him how he managed to send the money at the opportune moment. Giridhar related the leela in vivid detail.

When Shyamdas went to Shirdi, at Kopargaon, he had some difficulty at getting a tonga . But, as soon as he finished his ritual of bathing at the Godavari , doing jap and pooja at the Datta Mandir, a tonga with two passengers stopped before the Mandir. The passengers asked him to accompany them, as the third passenger could not make his trip to Shirdi. Upon reaching Shirdi, the tonga driver asked him for Re.1/- fare and not the customary Rs.5/-. He went to Dwarkamai for ‘dhule’ darshan and found Baba sitting with Butti, Balasaheb Bhate, Chinchanikar and other Bhaktas. Baba was sitting near the railing and was handing Bade Baba a chillum when he saw Shyamdas. Shyama said, “Deva, will you see, Shyamdas has come for your darshan.” Then Baba said, “I’ve been looking after him since a long time and will look after him hence.” Then Baba added, “How you drowned the money in the sea? Allah Malik gave you money. He also gave you water to drink.”

Shyamdas was overwhelmed by Baba’s love and caring. He went and laid his head on Baba’s feet for about 15 minutes. Then, Baba patted his head and said, “Get up Shyamdas, sit a while with Me.”

Baba’s grace enveloped Shyamdas and continued even in the later part of life.

Week after week Baba shows us almost same type
of Leelas and we are very much used to it. We get surprised or
shocked when Baba does not show us that leela. But some time Baba do
disapprove some actions or deeds. It becomes very difficult for us
to get the reason for the disapproval, but some times it is very
obvious. Some times devotees hide some things and wants to get the
approval of Baba for the wrong thing, which Baba does not approve or
there are some other reasons, which we come to know only after wards
and the mysteries are solved. This Thursday it so happened that Baba
did not blessed the small statue of our own niece at the time of
pooja but however her passport was blessed in no time when placed
before Him even late at 9 PM . A document of a devotee was also not
blessed. Rest was all normal and usual, as mentioned below.

As mentioned many times that Baba blesses us on
the birthdays and marriage anniversaries of our family members also
in addition to Thursdays. On Sunday the 30th Sept it was our sons
wedding anniversary and Baba has not disappointed us. Udi Started
oozing in the mandir from the photo and Statue in the mandir in
addition to the photos of Baba on the wall. Generally Udi starts
oozing from photos on the wall only from Monday and from the Photos
and Statue in the Mandir from Tuesday/ Wednesday. It is all His
blessings.

Following devotees participated in absencia in
the recitation of Sri Sai Amrit Vani, Pooja, prayers to Baba (
Shirdi) and Prayan of Sri Sai Satcharitra* by reciting Sri Sai Amrit
Vani at their places on 4th Oct 2007 (The list is sorted as per
their email ids, to avoid duplications) . However Mrs. Gupta prayed
for all the devotees. In this list only those devotees are included,
who themselves recited or read Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places.

This Thursday the 4th Sept 2007. we enjoyed the
following Leelas of Baba (of Shirdi). It may seems to be repitative
for the old members, but when the Leelas are repetitive and so the
discription is also repitative. Every week many new members join the
group, so I have to repeat the whole events that happen on this day.

1. This time on Sunday morning , Udi started oozing from the
two photos on the wall and Hindi words `RAM' `SHAM' and `OM', and
figure of Trishool were formed with Udi on one photo. Udi also
started oozing from the photo and statue in the mandir from the
Sunday itself and also forming the words `RAM' , `SHAM' and `OM'. It
was the marriage anniversary of our son on Sunday.
2. There was lot of Water from the Charans this Thursday also.
Thali was emptied several times. The taste of water was similar to
gulab jal and kewara mix. After distribution of Prasad, this water
was also given to the devotees and again the Thali was filled with
water.
3. Lap of Mrs. Gupta was filled with lots of Udi during the
prayers.
4. Several devotees had Udi in the books of Sri Sai Amrit Vani
and on themselves during the pooja.
5. On Thursday as soon as Bhog was offered, it was duly accepted
by Baba. We noticed that the Bhog , which was placed before HIM was
partially eaten. Part of Bhog was on the lips of photo and statue
of Baba. Different items were there on lips in different photos.
Parts of the remains in the box were given to the devotees who
offered that item of bhog to Baba.
6. The feeling of Presence of Baba was very strong during the
recitation of Sai Amrit Vani, Pooja and Prayer.
7. All the boxes of Bhog, which were kept on the table were
blessed with Udi.
8. Udi was there on the Many Photos, Statues and other documents
placed before Baba on the table as soon as they were placed. However
one statue and one document was not approved by Him as, they were
not blessed with Udi.

Sri Sai Amrit Vani started at 11:05 AM. Noon
Aartee, the same Aartee which is being recited in Shirdi, started at
12:00 Hrs. followed by brief Meditation and the prayer, Prayan from
Sri Sai Leelamrit Chapter 2 started. Mrs. Gupta offered prayers and
thanks to Baba. Finally distribution of Prasad and the water from the
Charans. Devotees narrated their experiences and the benefits they
are have with Baba's Blessings. Some devotee stayed for the lunch and
some even after there. We remained bussy till 10 PM with the guest.

Next Sri Sai Amrit Vani and Prayan of Sri Sai
Satcharitra on 11th Oct will again be held at Sidhartha Extension,
New Delhi. Devotees interested in attending it in person may contact
on phone nos. 26346942, 9810714688 or 9312494767 only after 11 AM
(IST) on any day except Thursdays but no calls on Thursdays PLEASE.
They should NOT bring any bhog with them and be in time. Kids are
also not allowed in the hall. Mobiles have to be put on silent mode
during the Pooja.

Sri Sai Amrit Vani in English script has now
been printed and is available in the market. Audio CDs of Sri Sai
Amrit Vani is also now available besides on the audio cassette. Mr.
Bassi has already sent a letter regarding about it.

Baba beat him, shouting foul abuses at him, but he was overjoyed at having got Baba’s ‘uchchista’ as Prasad. Kushabhau had fasted on one Ekadashi day when Baba asked him what he had eaten. He replied, “We eat nothing on Ekadashi except Kandmul (Potatoes and Sweet Potatoes and Tube Vegetables).” Baba jokingly said, “You ate kaanda (onions)?” Phonetically prolonging the ‘a’ sound to mean onions that orthodox Brahmins do not even touch on Ekadashi, let alone eat. Then Baba picked up some onions and forced him to eat them. Bhausaheb would eat them if Baba also joined him in the repast. So, both of them started eating onions. Just then, a group of devotees arrived in the Dwarkamai. Turning to them, Baba said, “Look at this orthodox Brahmin eating onions today.” Kusha Bhau said, “Baba asked me to, and so did He.” At that time, Baba regurgitated and spat out something, and instead of onions, sweet potatoes were found. Kusha Bhau, not losing a moment, fell upon it and ate it. It was then that Baba beat him. Then Baba blessed him and said, “Henceforth, you just think of Me and stretch your palms and it will be full of warm udi from My dhuni. This you should use to heal and cure diseases and benefit people.” And so he did.

Kashinath Pant hailed from Mezagaon district, Ahmednagar. He was a learned Brahmin who spent his life in doing various social service activities like looking after the sick and helping the poor. He was also a spiritual person. In 1872, a son was born to him whom he named Krishna . Krishna , like his father was a very spiritual child. Right from early childhood, he was interested in listening to mythological stories, visiting all the temples of his village, reading the Holy Scriptures and reciting various mantras. There was a Maruti Mandir in the village and Krishna went daily to that temple and did pooja there.

One day, upon going to the temple, he saw a Sadhu seated there. The Sadhu had a bright aura around him and was clothed in tiger-skin. After doing namaskar and pooja to Maruti, he also did namaskar to the Sadhu. The Sadhu was Vakratunda Maharaj. He beckoned to Krishna and asked him to sit beside him. Krishna did so and the Sadhu told him some religious stories. The Maharaj did not eat anything but lived on milk alone. Everyday, he would give Krishna money and ask him to fetch the milk. Krishna happily obliged. One day, Krishna brought the milk but did not return the change. The next day, Maharaj asked him what he had done with the change. Pat came the reply, “I bought pedas with the money and ate them.”

Vakratunda Maharaj smiled at him and said, “See that tree a short distance from you? Go there, and you will find a stone, beneath which is a pot. Open it and eat.”

Krishna did what he was told, and indeed, there was a vessel full of pedas. He ate to his heart’s content. Then he kept the vessel in its place and covered it as before. That night, the Sadhu was leaving Mezagaon, and Krishna accompanied him. The Sadhu and Shishya traveled far and wide and Vakratunda Maharaj bestowed all the siddhis that he had on Krishna . But Krishna wasn’t satisfied. He wanted to learn mantras that would create spells and break spells, exorcising devils and invoking them. His Guru was very reluctant to teach this to Krishna who persisted. He wore the iron bangle and did the necessary rites and gained these negative siddhis too.

Baburao Borawke lived in Saswad near Pune.His life on the surface seemed full misery and immense trouble. But, when Baba’s grace is showered, even 3 annas become one lakh.. His parents died when he was a child. His uncle and other relatives took advantage of this unfortunate incident and misappropriated his father’s property and squandered all the money, leaving Baburao penniless. So hard up for money was he that he had to give up schooling and look for employment. One of his maternal uncles lived in Shirdi. He had sugarcane fields and farms and made jaggery out of it.

The uncle was devoted to Baba and often spoke of Baba’s leelas to Baburao. Baburao soon became a devotee and was eager to have Baba’s darshan. Somehow, he managed to buy a ticket to Kopargaon, enroute to Shirdi. At Ahmednagar station, he decided to fast until he had Baba’s darshan. At Kopargaon, he alighted and traveled 3 miles by tonga , up to the banks of the Godavari . When he realized he had only 3 annas left in his pocket and that was insufficient to take him to Shirdi, he decided to walk the rest of the way.

As his maternal uncle’s home was on the way, he visited his home. His aunt requested him to have a meal and then proceed to Shirdi. He told her of his determination to have Baba’s darshan first, and then have a meal. So saying, he walked to Shirdi. Near Lendi, he met his Uncle, who also invited him for a meal. Baburao was however eager to see Baba first. His uncle gave him Re.1 and requested him to have a meal with the money. He accepted the rupee and went to the Masjid. His heart was filled with joy and bliss upon beholding Baba’s luminous form. He rushed up the steps of the dwakamai and lay his head on Baba’s feet. Baba made him sit near and spoke to him kindly. Then, Baba asked for dakshina. Baburao told Baba about his hopeless situation and his inability to give dakshina. “Look in your pocket. Why keep the one rupee?” said Baba. Baburao thrust his hand in his pocket and took out the Re.1 note that he had quite forgotten about, and offered it to Baba.

The wonderful experience that he had made him determined to stay in Shirdi. He worked hard in his uncle’s field and daily took Baba’s darshan. His hard work bore fruit and the harvest was extremely good. So, there was a great deal of jaggery which was sold for a profit. Baburao handed over all the money he made over to his uncle. One day, a friend of his uncle’s visited them. He was extremely surprised to see his fill. “How did you manage to transform this parched land into such a lush field?” he asked. The uncle pointed to his nephew and told him, it was all his hard work. The friend asked Baburao whether he would join with him as a partner. Baburao agreed.

Daily, he would tend to his uncle’s field, then go to Kopargaon, and work there till dusk. His hard workd earned him one lakh rupees at the end of the year. Baburao, who had come to Shirdi with 3 annas in his pocket was now a millionaire. He felt, it was only by Baba’s grace that this had happened. He bought a house in a village nearby and came to Shirdi for Baba’s darshan.

“All kinds of people come here, Vani, Teli, Varul, Kulkarni and Tamboli do come here”, said Baba to Ramchandra A. Tarkhad. It was Dassera holidays, 1915. At about 2:30 in the afternoon, when Mhatara and his friend were doing charan-seva to Baba, Baba called Tarkhad ‘Mhatara’. The second or Junior Munim (Manager) of his firm came for Baba’s darshan. Both Tarkhad and the Munim looked at each other, aghast. “Why are you anxious? Be calm and look at every act unfolding before you, unruffled and with detachment.” The Munim was in a desperate state. He looked starved, unshaven and unkept. Anxiety was written all over his face. He bowed at Baba’s feet, then touched Tarkhad’s feet. Baba, turning to Dixit, said, “Kaka, take this man to your wada, and after a meal, let him come for darshan.” Kaka did as he was asked.
Tarkhad’s mind was racing around in circles. He thought, “What am I to do? This man has gambled away 2 ½ lakhs of money of the cotton speculation and sales. The Managing Director of the firm has put out a police warrant for him. There is a price money for anyone who finds him. I cannot betray my Manager, but he has sought refuge in Baba. My allegiance is to my Manager, but my faith and devotion lies with Baba.” Again, Baba said, “Why are you so anxious?”

Meanwhile, the other devotees began questioning Tarkhad as to who that particular devotee was. He vaguely replied that he knew him from Bombay . But, they were not satisfied. “What will I say when I meet my Managing Director?” he thought. “Should I tell him that he came to Shirdi.” Baba reassured him again. The Munim had a bath, and dined at Dixit Wada. Then the two of them came to the Dwarkamai. Baba expertly sent Dixit and Tarkhad to do some chore, and spoke to the Munim alone. “Leave Shirdi at once and go to the Manager and tell him what you have done and beg his pardon”, said Baba. The Munim followed Baba’s advice, and went to Bombay after an absence of five months. Strangely, the manager asked the police to be lenient with the culprit. Baba had changed the mind and infused compassion into him. When Tarkhad reached Bombay , he told the Manager what had happened, while he was at Shirdi. The Manager wasn’t upset with Tarkhad and assured him that everything would be alright. The Munim had after all sought refuge in Baba.

Anandrao Pakharde in 1910 was a famous businessman. In those days, very few Maharashtrians used to go for business. He lived on Lamington Road and being an astute businessman, he bought a bungalow in Vile-Parle, Nehru Road in 1914. Vile-Parle was then a desolate place with only four houses. There was no electricity or water supply. The family used a lantern and drank well water. This state of affairs induced him to form the property owners’ association. He was President of the association for many years. He diligently worked to make the suburb
of Vile-Parle into a modern beautiful place. A crossroad near his home has honored him by naming it Pakharde Chowk. Dixit lived next door and they were friends. Dixit being a devotee of Sai Baba, often spoke of his leelas. It was Dixit who was instrumental in Anandrao’s going to Shirdi. In Sai Satcharita Chapter 45, his name is mentioned. His beautiful leela of his dream vision of Baba is given.

Dixit used to read the eleventh chapter of Eknath Bhagwad daily as advised by Baba. Shyama and Kaka Mahajani were present and were listening intently to the reading in Mahajani’s residence in Chowpatty, Bombay . Pakharde went looking for Shyama, the day before; he had a dream vision in which he saw Baba seated on a splendid bejeweled throne. In front of Him stood Pakharde and Shyama, when Shyama said, “Anandrao, bow at His feet.” Anandrao said that, that was his intense desire, but Baba’s feet were underwater. “O Deva, do take out Your feet from the water”, said Shyama. Baba did so and Pakharde at once clasped His feet. Baba blessed Pakharde and added, “Give a dhotar with a silk border to my Shyama, and you will enjoy peace and happiness.” So, Pakharde had brought the dhotar and gave it to Dixit to hand it over to Shyama.

Anandrao had a painting of Baba that he prayed to. It is a family heirloom, as it was with him since Baba’s sojourn in Shirdi. One does not know whether Baba gave it to him.

The rough tumble and turmoil of worldly life was taking its toll on him. So, Ramchandra Atmaram Tarkhad decided to take a break and go to Shirdi. He planned to spend a few days there at Baba’s feet, get rejuvenated and return home. Leaving his family behind, he went with his friend to Shirdi on December 6th, 1910. After spending about 11 hours in the train, he reached Kopergaon. He bathed in the Godavari and reached Shirdi by Tonga. They alighted at Sathe Wada at about 9:00 a.m. He has the habit of having a cup of tea in the morning and its absence, nonetheless, he went to Sathe Wada and kept his belongings. When he was accosted by a Sadhu in a pink Kafni, who said, “Aho Babasaheb, why have you come to Shirdi? What do you get here? Because educated people like you come here, many people are flocking here for no good reason.” Tarkad was taken aback by what he said. But what upset him most was his tone of voice. It was full of disgust and ridicule. Before he could say anything, another sadhu in a white dress, holding a small stick, with flowers tied to one end stood in front of him. He literally shouted in his ear, “What is the meaning of ‘Stithaprajna’ (a man of serene wisdom)? Please tell me in detail who is a Stithaprajna.” By now, Tarkhad had lost his cool and was completely agitated. He wondered why he came to Shirdi. He decided that he would go for Baba’s darshan and take permission to return to Bombay that very day.

Just then, Balasaheb Bhate came with a glass of piping hot tea and handed it to him and told him that his luggage would be taken care of while he went for darshan. By now, Tarkhad had had enough and his mind was in a turmoil and he felt he was better off in Bombay . Trying to compose himself, he walked slowly to the Dwarkamai and laid his head on Baba’s feet. Baba placed His beneficent hand on his head and said, “Why does he do this? Shyama, take him to the Wada and tell him something.”
The two walked out of the Dwarkamai and Shyama asked Tarkhad why he was agitated and anxious. Tarkhad told him everything that had happened since he left Bombay , and his mind, instead of getting calm and peace was in turmoil. Shyama said, “This is Baba’s leela. There is a lesson in all of this and he is showing you the answer, and that is, that even in the midst of trials and tribulations, pressure of work, ups and downs of family life, one should not lose one’s balance, but direct it towards God.” They retraced their steps, and as soon as they entered the Dwarkamai, Baba said, “Bhau, pay heed to Shyama’s words.” Tarkhad took Baba’s advice and he used this leela as his motto and was quite unruffled by calamities and financial difficulties. His faith in Baba and this advice worked like a charm for him.

To quote an instance in the year 1700,Shaka year,poet Mahipati wanted to write the lives of saints and saints in turn helped in getting the work done and by their (saints) inspiration he wrote Bhakta Vijaya,Sant Vijaya,Bhakta Leelamrut, and Sant Leelamrut.Same was with Das- Ganu Maharaj who wrote Bhakta Leelamrut and Sant Kathamrut.There are others like Mrs.Savitribai Ragunath Tendulkar who wrote a book describing wonderful leelas of Baba.Amidas Bhavani Mehta who published some stories on Sai Baba in Gujrati; .some Nos. of Sainath Prabha, a magazine published by Dakshina Bhiksha Sanstha of Shirdi, are also published

Hemadpant who thought that he was not fit to undertake the writing of Sai Satcharitra completed the work and is evident from Baba's words :-"Let him make a collection of stories and experiences, keep notes and memos; I will help him. He is only an outward instrument. I should write Myself My autobiography and satisfy the wishes of My devotees. He should get rid of his ego, place (or surrender) it at My feet. He who acts like this in life, him I help the most. What of My life-stories? I serve him in his house in all possible ways. When his ego is completely annihilated and there is left no trace of it, I Myself shall enter into him and shall Myself write My own life. Hearing my stories and teachings will create faith in devotees' hearts and they will easily get self - realization and Bliss; let there be no insistence on establishing one's own view, no attempt to refute other's opinions, no discussions of pros and cons of any subject."

It is to be noted that there are still many devotees who are being inspired by our beloved Sainath and who in turn are publishing their thought provoking articles through books,poems and not to forget the Shirdi-sai-baba- divine-grace and other Shirdi baba yahoo groups.

“My Nana is in trouble. He is overcome by thirst. Should we not give him a handful of water?” Said Baba sitting in the Dwarkamai.

The two leelas given below are similar, quenching Nana’s thirst, while on Harishchandra hill, and Shyamdas’ on Girnar Parvat.

The Rinanubandh for each devotee was different; but Baba’s compassion, vigilant watchfulness and love were equal and infinite. Nana, though overweight, was very fond of visiting temples on hill-tops. Harishchandra hill is forty miles away from Shirdi with a Devi temple on its summit. Once Nana with his entourage of peons and sheristadars made this pilgrimage. It was a hot summer day and the hill rocky and barren. There were no trees for shade, no water to drink. The troupe had climbed half-way, when Nana was fatigued and overcome by thirst. The provisions they had brought was exhausted. The Sheristadar suggested they return. But exhaustion and thirst had taken its toll and Nana could not do so. He just sat on a flat slab of stone and said, “If Baba were here, He would surely give me water to slate my thirst.” The Sheristadar thought that this speculation was futile as Baba wasn’t there. But Baba was with Nana at all times.

Here at Shirdi, Baba said, “My Nana is in trouble.” At that very moment, a Bhil was walking down the hill. Nana asked, “I am very thirsty. Can I get some water to drink?” The Bhil replied, “What? You ask for water? Under the very slab on which you are seated, there is water.” Then he walked on. The peons and sheristadars moved the slab and found a palm full of clear sparkling water; just enough to slate his burning thirst. Nana drank the water and having quenched his thirst, continued the pilgrimage. He took darshan of the Goddess and returned home.

It is said that prayer is a concentrated one pointed contact with a higher power. When a devout soul is concentrating deeply on God, the soul gets thoroughly saturated with the divine and the divine power infiltrates the Jeeva and produces certain results. Here, the mere thought of Baba had instantaneous results. The faith, devotion and love behind the thought were the trigger of Baba’s leela. Later, when Nana visited Shirdi, Baba said, “Nana, you were thirsty. I gave you water. Did you drink it?” This increased Nana’s faith futher by leaps and bounds. He was convinced more than ever, that Baba was Omnipresent, Omnipotent, merciful and loving, that Baba had the power to bring water to the barren hill, then appear as the Bhil and save his life while he sat in the Dwarkamai with the devotees.

Tatyasaheb Noolkar (L.K.Noolkar) , whom Baba lovingly called ‘mhatara’ or old man, used to write to his friend and mentor Nanasaheb Chandorkar regularly. On 20/07/09 , Tatya writes, “What have I left to say to one, who’s Guru remembers him every moment of the day. Day and night, he says, ‘Nana, Nana’ and ‘Kaka, Kaka’.”

Tatya gives us an insight of the love and the Rinanubandh that Baba and Nana had for each other, while Nana replies, quoting a doha from Kabir’s, which says, “Iron gets spoilt, when it comes in contact with a touchstone. When it gets spoilt, it turns into gold. I am so very glad to see I have succeeded in spoiling you by the grace of Sai Maharaj. It is now for you to make efforts for a good progress.” Further, Nana writes, “It was a desire to sleep in the lap of the mother. The mother has fulfilled this desire. Now, the one who is, will be taken care of by her, but one must adhere to such practices that one dreams of mother and she always remains before one’s eyes. Then, the mother (Guru Mauli) will rattle the name of mhatara as she does Nana and Kaka. Have no doubt.”

What a beautiful letter it is, so full of insight, understanding and love. Passionate love for the Guru Mauli.

I have received many letters about the Sri Sai Leelamrit, If devotees are so interested I will put the pages, read by Mrs Gupta on the site in the Jpg format every week. It is in Hindi Script. I require the feedback.

Baba is with us all the time and at all the places, where ever we go. He shows His presence also. But some time His presence is felt more. Although Every Thursday, feeling of His presence is very strong yet on other days also we feel His presence and He even blesses us. On birthdays of any member of the family or on our wedding anniversry, Baba definately blesses us with Udi. On Monday it was the birthday of our youngest grand daughter, who is in Atlanta, USA. Udi Started oozing in the mandir from the photo and Statue in the mandir in addition to the photos of Baba on the wall. Generally Udi starts oozing from photos on the wall only from Monday and from the Photos and Statue in the Mandir from Tuesday/ Wednesday. It is all His blessings.

There were about 90 devotees, who attended the recitation in person and they came from far off places in Delhi and even from Gurgaon, Noida and Shahdara. Mrs Mehrotra was from Malaysia and Mrs Sudesh Johar of Australia was also present in the darbar of Baba. There were disturbing devotees too present today. They moved from one room to other room in between the Pooja and such disturbing so many other devotees. Two devotees brought the prasad, although we clearly request people not to bring the Bhog. Sweet water (Chasni) from the Box spill all over the floor created another nuisence. We had to announce that from Next time we will strictly not allow anyboly with the sweet/bhog.

Following devotees participated in absencia in the recitation of Sri Sai Amrit Vani, Pooja, prayers to Baba ( Shirdi) and Prayan of Sri Sai Satcharitra* by reciting Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places on 27th Sept 2007 (The list is sorted as per their email ids, to avoid duplications) . However Mrs. Gupta prayed for all the devotees. In this list only those devotees are included, who themselves recited or read Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places.

This Thursday the 27th Sept 2007. we enjoyed the following Leelas of Baba (of Shirdi). It may seems to be repitative for the old members, but when the Leelas are repetitive and so the discription is also repitative. Every week many new members join the group, so I have to repeat the whole events that happen on this day.

1. This time on Monday , Udi started oozing from the two photos on the wall and Hindi words `RAM' `SHAM' and `OM', and figure of Trishool were formed with Udi on one photo. Udi also started oozing from the photo and statue in the mandir from the Monday itself and also forming the words `RAM' , `SHAM' and `OM'.

2. There was lot of Water from the Charans this Thursday also. Thali was emptied several times. In the morning itself at 8 AM when Mrs. Gupta entered the Mandir for Pooja, Thali was already overflowing and the water spill all over the papers below the thali. The taste of water was similar to gulab jal and kewara mix. After distribution of Prasad, this water was also given to the devotees and again the Thali was filled with water. At about 3:30 PM Mrs. Gupta wiped the the Charans and cleaned all the space of Charans. But Baba was in a different mood and water started oozing again and Charans were again had to be placed in the thali.

3. Lap of Mrs. Gupta was filled with lots of Udi during the prayers.

4. Several devotees had Udi in the books of Sri Sai Amrit Vani and on themselves during the pooja.

5. On Thursday as soon as Bhog was offered, it was duly accepted by Baba. We noticed that the Bhog , which was placed before HIM was partially eaten. Part of Bhog was on the lips of photo and statue of Baba. Different items were there on lips in different photos. Parts of the remains in the box were given to the devotees who offered that item of bhog to Baba. Baba even blessed the Bhog of the devotees who brought the Bhog themselves. But they were not allowed to distribute the bhog inside the house, as it again will spoil the floor and it may also come under the feets.

6. The feeling of Presence of Baba during the recitation of Sai Amrit Vani, Prayer was very strong and few devotees saw Baba in the white dress.

7. All the boxes of Bhog, which were kept on the table were blessed with Udi.

8. Udi was there on the Many Photos, Statues and other documents placed before Baba on the table as soon as they were placed.

9. Sai Satcharitra which were placed on the table before Baba, was also blessed with Udi in between the pages.

Sri Sai Amrit Vani started at 11:05 AM. Noon Aartee, the same Aartee which is being recited in Shirdi, started at 12:00 Hrs. followed by brief Meditation and the prayer, Prayan from Sri Sai Leelamrit from page 8 onwards and Chapter 1 was completed. Mrs. Gupta offered prayers and thanks to Baba. Finally distribution of Prasad and the water from the Charans. Devotees narrated their experiences and the benefits they are have with Baba's Blessings. Some devotee stayed for the lunch and some even after there. Finally all the devotees departed by 4 PM. In the evening also few neighbours come.

Next Sri Sai Amrit Vani and Prayan of Sri Sai Satcharitra on 4th Oct will again be held at Sidhartha Extension, New Delhi. Devotees interested in attending it in person may contact on phone nos. 26346942, 9810714688 or 9312494767 only after 11 AM (IST) on any day except Thursdays but no calls on Thursdays PLEASE. They should NOT bring any bhog with them and be in time. Kids are also not allowed in the hall. Mobiles have to be put on silent mode during the Pooja.

Sri Sai Amrit Vani in English script has now been printed and is available in the market. Audio CDs of Sri Sai Amrit Vani is also now available besides on the audio cassette. Mr. Bassi has already sent a letter regarding about it.

Once, he had gone to Dwarkamai, and Baba was grinding wheat. At that time, Baba had ground a little wheat and was about to grind some more. He went to the Sanctum Sanctorium and sat down and noted that Baba, while grinding, was singing awhile, saying Vedanta a while, then showering abuses. He was so fascinated by the grinding, that he asked Baba, “Baba, why have You kept this hand mill? Why do You do this chore of grinding?” Baba then said, “Ithe je yetaat, tyaanche malaa dalaava laagta bara (Whoever comes to me, I have to grind for them)!” This sentence struck the core of his heart and he realized how much trouble and hardship Baba undergoes for us.

Our Sanchit (The sum total of merit and demerit of the present life as well as all the previous births) and Kriyaman (The actions of this present life with its repercussions and fruits in future births) are whirling around like a wheel. Then there are our hopes, aspirations, goals and trials. Only the Sadguru shoulders our tribulations for material benefits. Finally, to set us on the path of spirituality, helping us as we take the first few steps like a mother carrying us every time we falter or fall.

Only the Sadguru can liberate us from the cycle of future births and deaths. No one else can!

When he went to take permission to leave, he said, “Baba, why don’t you call me more frequently to Shirdi?” Then Baba, turning to Bala Shimpi said, “He says I don’t call him often. Yet, we meet every fifteen days, don’t we?” Shyamdas had a routine of writing to Baba on Ekadashi of every month and Baba used to reply. Baba was referring to this. Then Baba, as usual, gave him a handful of udi and blessed him. In a motherly tone, Baba said, “So, you are leaving? Arre Shyamdas, I am with you all the time. Allah Ram Malik will bless you and do good. Okay?”

On his last visit, he had gone to the Dwarkamai in the afternoon at about three o’clock . Some devotees were seated at the Sabha Mandap and they cautioned Shyamdas not to got to the Dwarkamai. Baba at that time was sitting still as if in meditation. Just then, one of the devotees went up for darshan. Baba flew into a rage and swiftly smacked the devotee with his satka. He let out a volley of abuses. The devotee fled from the Dwarkamai. Shyamdas went up and Baba welcomed him as if nothing had happened. Shyamdas sat a while and Baba said, “Shyamdas, when will you come again?” Shyamdas replied that he would return quickly and taking Udi, he left. He had not even reached the gate of the Sabha Mandap, when Baba called out to him. He retraced his steps and went to Baba. Baba said, “Henceforth, don’t come to Shirdi, okay? I am always with you, wherever you may be, okay? The people here have changed a lot. They trouble me incessantly with their cries for money (paika) and I am getting tired. Are you going on a yatra, or are you going to meet your family? I am always with you now and forever.” Then Baba gave him permission to go and try as he may, he couldn’t make a trip to Shirdi, nor could he send his letters on Ekadashi. Then Shyamdas received letters from various devotees informing him that Baba had taken Mahasamadhi.

Date of Birth: 9th June, 1865
Date of Samadhi: 8th August, 1951

It was from Konkan prantha, Ratnagiri Jilha, Devgad Gaon, and his ancestors hailed from. Then they moved to Thane, where Uddhavesh grew up. From early childhood, he was an ascetic by nature, and loved to go on pilgrimages and visit saints and sadhus. He first visited Shirdi in 1904. This visit itself was very predictive of Baba’s grace on him. He had undertaken an elaborate pilgrimage of Rameshwar; from Wardha it was by foot. Upon takng Gajanan Maharaj’s darshan, the saint told him to go south of Shegaon, where he would meet his Guru. Then, Harihar Baba at Shivlee who did not speak, except for saying Harihar, indicated that Uddhavesh would find his moksha Guru at a place that rhymed with Shivlee (Shiladi) in the westward direction. At Shivlee, a party gave Uddhavesh a wild horse for his journey. The horse was bad-natured for he bit if a person stood before him, and kicked him, if he stood behind him. Nonetheless, taking him along, he came to Ahmednagar Jilha, ‘the land of saints’. At Belapur, he did darshan of Keshav Govind’s Samadhi and reached Kopargaon. Bathed in the Godavari , he did Naamjap and thence came to Shirdi.

In those days, Shirdi was a desolate place with abundant Babul trees. He tied his horse to a Babul tree, taking care to muzzle his mouth and tying his hind legs to another tree, lest he attack way-farers. It was then that he noticed a fakir in a torn-tattered kafni. A tin tumrel in his hand, he walked about aimlessly. He went up to him and politely asked him, where the Sadhu of Shirdi stayed. The Fakir blessed him with a shower of abuses. This episode hurt him to the core and he made his way to the village. “He is an old cantecarous man and instead of answering a simple question civilly, he abuses my mother and me”, he thought. Upon reaching the village, he came to the Masjid. There was a hut next to it and an old lady was making Bhakar and Pitla. He enquired about the saint of Shirdi. She told him that he had gone out, but there was no saying as to when he would return. So, she was making Bhakar ready for him to eat whenever he would return. He enquired about his appearance. She described in great detail about Baba’s torn tattered Kafni and headgear.
The Masjid was littered with garbage in front of it, but the inside was clean and neat. In a corner, there were four lighted lamps, next to it a hand-mill and some old and faded marigold garlands and some fresh garlands. A Dhuni was burning in front of the pillar. He wondered about the lighted lamps and the entire setup as he made his way back. The lady was a Hindu, the sadhu described was a Muslim, and his mind was in a turmoil. “Agni in the Masjid! Why?” Many questions arose in his mind on his way back.

There he saw Baba patting his horse. He had one hand in the horses mouth and with the other, He was patting his head. Spontaneously, he said, “Be careful Maharaj! This is a wild creature and he bites viciously.” He then went and laid his head on Baba’s feet. He was filled with peace and he stood up and asked the burning question. “Maharaj, where and when will I find my Guru?” Still patting the horse, Baba answered, “Kallel pudhe, tu kothun aalas? Mee tar vedaa fakir aahe (You will realize in the future where you came from. I am but a mad Fakir).” Then He added, “After five years, everything will be clear, okay. Go. Leave today and do Upwas (Upwas here is indicated of Sadhna).” Then Baba and Uddhavesh returned to the Masjid. Some devotee had left a coconut offering. Baba broke it and gave half to Uddhav. Then He said, “Arre, how can a whole bhakar go down the stomach all at once. You will realize in five years. At that time, we will see.” Then, Uddhav bowed to Baba and left for Kopargaon and joined the rest of the group and continued his pilgrimage.
Between 1906 and 1911, he was fortunate to meet Nana Chandorkar, Janardhan Gonddev Kandikar and Balasaheb Dev, who told him many leelas of Sai Baba.

In 1906, he visited Shirdi and Baba said, “ Come Shyamdas, it is good you have come. Ghoda Baeel Chaavka. Aamhasee bhet to paavka (Rough translation: Horses and bulls bite. But when they meet me, they become meek and gentle).” These words reminded him of Baba’s divine presence which was perceived even by the vile horse. Harihar Bua, who had told him he would find his Moksha Guru at Shirdi. Everytime he visited Shirdi, thence, he stayed for longer periods of time.

“I look at everyone with equality. Many people come to My darbar with different motives and needs. The people who are here are also as different as different can be. Some are God-fearing. Some are seekers of knowledge and enlightenment. Others are seekers of wealth, health and progeny. Others are rogues. Nonetheless, I look at each and everyone with equality”, said Baba.

Here are two such leelas.

The year was 1913 and “Naam-Saptah” was being performed by some of the devotees. The Dwarkamai was packed as devotees had gathered together to participate in the weeklong program. Savitribai Tendulkar was also present and so was Babasaheb Tarkhad. Baba calmly said, “Go Shama, there is a man sitting on the wall of the Sabha Mandap. He wishes to have darshan. Do go and bring him immediately.” Shama did as he was bidden. Indeed, there was a man huddled next to the wall of Dwarkamai. But, he was in a bad shape. The man was not very old. But his hands were shaking and his head was nodding. He was drooling at the mouth. His body was full of boils that oozed puss. Some of the boils had turned to open sores that were full of maggots. Flies covered his chest. The torn clothes that he had on were filthy and dirty. There was an overpowering stench of foul odor.

Shama seemed oblivious and holding the man by his hand, brought him to Baba. The man fell at Baba’s feet, and tears of joy poured from his eyes. Baba placed his hand of benediction on his head and said, “Bhau, what have you brought for me?” This devotee’s joy knew no bounds at that moment. Slowly and painstakingly, he took out a dirty piece of cloth and opened the bundle. Inside the bundle was a small piece of paper that had 2-3 pieces of sugar candy. With his shaking hands, he handed the candy to Baba with utter devotion. Upon receiving the candy, Baba gobbled it up. Then Baba placed his palm on his head and gave him udi and permission to leave. The man slowly but joyously left the Dwarkamai. Babasaheb Tarkhad watched the whole scenario with keen interest and was so moved by Baba’s compassion and love, that he could not hold back his tears.

The year was 1917. Firoz was in high school when his parents made a pilgrimage to Shirdi. While returning, they brought a photograph of Baba as Prasad. Upon returning home, the parents gave a glowing account of Baba’s divinity to the family. Firoz heard all this and he wondered in his mind about it. “They run after these Babas and Sadhus”, he thought. “Will this Sai Baba help them spiritually and materially?” He also put a test to Baba thinking, “If Baba is divine, he will give me a sign.” With this thought, he went to sleep.

Then he dreamt of Baba who said, “You want proof of my divinity? Whether I am for real or not? Your father has placed my photograph on the table. When you get up in the morning, try and pick it up. If you can pick it up, I am fake. If you cannot pick it up, know for sure that I am real.” The dream awakened him, and he couldn’t wait for dawn to break. In the morning, he went to the dining table and went to pick up Baba’s photograph. But the photograph was extremely heavy. The more he tried, the heavier it got. The table itself was lifted off the floor, but not the photograph. Then he realized that Baba was indeed divine.

Later, he started working in his father’s mill gratis. One day, he dreamt of Baba, who said, “You have been working in your father’s mill for so long. You need to get a salary, right?” The next day, his uncle casually asked him if he was getting paid for all the work he was doing. On hearing the negative reply, his uncle started paying him Rs.200/- per month. Firoz did not meet Baba, but he was devoted to Him. He kept wondering, what Shirdi looked like. One day, while traveling by bus, he passed by Sai Baba lane in Santa Cruz . Intuitively, he knew that he would find his answer there. Later, he went to that lane and met Moreshwar Pradhan, who was very close to Baba. Pradhan readily and gladly answered all his questions in great detail and satisfied him.

Jothinder Tarkhad and Baba had a very special relationship. Jothinder loved Baba immensely and Baba reciprocated with parental love and care.

Once, Jothinder was sitting in the Dwarkamai when Baba asked him to press His legs as they were hurting. Immediately, Jothinder started pressing his legs with great devotion. Suddenly, he saw a fiendish looking woman in front of him. She was so terrifying to look at that Jothinder had no words of description. Instinctively, Jothinder clutched Baba’s feet tightly. After a while, she disappeared.

“Bhau, what did you see just now?” asked Baba. Jothinder could not formulate the word at that moment. Gently, Baba asked, “Arre Bhau, tell me what you saw.” Then Jothinder said, “Baba, don’t show me such terrifying things.” Baba then said, “She was Jari, the Goddess of ill-omen and misfortune. She had set her heart on taking you away.” Then reassuringly, He added, “But I would not allow her and let her take five others instead.” Jothinder was overwhelmed by these words and he lay his head on Baba’s feet.

Jothinder was rarely sick, but in the year he felt ill for about a week. He lost his muscle tone and was thus admitted at the Nanavati hospital. On the last Shravan Somwar (Shravan is August by the Hindu calendar and Somwar is Monday which is considered extremely holy), he asked for tea and drank it. A while later, he asked for tea again. His wife gently reminded him that she had just given him his tea.
“Yes! But I want some tea as I am seeing some black shadow”, he replied. Tea was sent for, and while waiting, his wife said, “While the tea comes, why don’t you do Baba’s Naam-Smaran?”

He started Naam-Smaran, and after a short while, he saw Baba. So, he folded his hands and did namaskar. “Baba, Mee Aalo (Baba, I’m coming).” Then he closed his eyes and took Samadhi (died).

No more needs to be said about this Rinanubandh relationship.

Rajaram Kaka (Dev Baba’s Father) hailed from Walaval, Sindhudurga Jhilla (Region). Hence, they were called theWalavalkars. His lineage was from the Sathkul Kudar Deshkar family. The family was very devout and religious. In 1916, he married Krishnabai alias Sitabai who was Dabholkar’s daughter.

The couple moved to Girgaum, Bombay , where Rajaram worked in the Accountant General’s office. He was devoted to Vitthal and followed the Warkari Sampradaya. Dev Baba was the eldest child of four brothers and one sister. As Girgaum was a remote suburb, Rajaram and his family moved to Dadar. As it was the first pregnancy, Sitabai came to her parents’ home in Bandra. Sitabai was ill during the pregnancy and had ‘Nandavayu’. {Possibly Tetanus*).

Dabholkar was very concerned. So, he ran to Shirdi and told Baba about it. Baba reassured him and said “ Balantpan nirvigna hoyeel (The delivery will be trouble-free) !” He also stated that His son would be born to her. Assured by Baba’s words, Dabholkar returned home and prayed to Baba for help. Rajaram also prayed earnestly to Vitthal begging Him to give him a ‘Dnyaneshwar – like’ son. The time for delivery arrived and Dabholkar anxiously waited outside. When he finally went to see his daughter, he was surprised at what he saw. The mother had thrown the child in a corner, and would not touch or cuddle him. The child however lay contentedly in the corner. But what surprised him most, was, the halo of light around his head. He also had an aura of light around him.

As the mother was afraid to hold her child, she also refused to nurse him. Dabholkar however picked up the child and brought him to Shirdi. He went straight to the Dwarkamai and laid him at Baba’s feet. Being rather anxious and distraught at his daughter’s behavior, he told Baba all that had happened in great detail. Meanwhile, Baba picked up the baby, and laying him in His lap, patted him gently. Then, He nursed him by placing His thumb in the child’s mouth. The baby sucked and out came milk!

The beautiful leela of Baba is given where Baba tells Das Ganu that he need not go to Prayag and have a bath in the Ganga and Jamuna. When Das Ganu lays his head on Baba’s feet, out flows the Ganga and Jamuna from Baba’s toes! Here, Baba feeds the tiny baby from His thumb!

Dev Baba had Baba’s grace around him at all times. His primary education was in Marathi medium. Then he went to Wilson English Medium School . However, Dev Baba rarely attended school. He spent most of his time meditating, at the Swami Samarth Math nearby. Swami Samarth also blessed him. As a young man, he joined the Kurla Municipal Kirde Kendra as a teacher in physical education. He was extremely fond of his students and was fair to each and everyone. However, the students were from two castes and one caste felt that Dev Baba was ‘rather fond and sympathetic to the other caste’. They went and complained to the other teachers. One of the teachers decided to give him a good thrashing. Meanwhile, some of the teachers informed Dev Baba of the plan. Casually, he said, “Oh, but he will not come to school tomorrow.” And so, it came to pass that the teacher went to swim that evening, drowned and died. When this happened, he realized that Baba had bestowed him with Siddhis.

He decided not to work for anybody, but to utilize his services for God.

He made various pilgrimages and stayed in the Himalayas . He learned Hata Yoga and progressed spiritually. His mother was seriously ill and he knew that she would soon pass away, he visited her and gave her a mantra to recite. Then he came to Shirdi and sat in the Mandir and did parayana of the Satcharita While he was mid-way, he received a telegram, saying that his mother had taken a turn for the worse. He asked Baba whether he should go and visit her. Baba said, “Yes.” Now, he was in a quandary as to how he would go that far in such a short time. He was pondering as to why Baba had granted him permission when the time was so short and the journey, so long.

Lo! Baba stood before him and reassured him. Baba had brought a horse with Him to accompany him in the shookshma (invisible) form. They both reached Dadar. He met his mother and gently reassured her of a peaceful death and Baba Himself was there to take care of her destination. Thus, it came to pass that she died peacefully. He returned to Shirdi and completed the parayana. When he told people about his mother’s death, they looked at him with astonishment and did not believe him, ‘as he was seated for parayana all that time’!

In 1952, he married Kishori Bai who shared his devotion for Baba and worked along with him. The couple moved to Ambarnath and stayed in their ancestral home. In the first floor, a Mandir was made in 1967. A saat-dhaatu murti (an idol of seven metals) was installed and pratishtha performed.

Dev Baba had many followers and he guided them to his Ishtha Dev Sai Baba.
After a very fruitful life, he took Samadhi on Thursday on Vaishakh Vaidya Apara Ekadashi. He asked his relatives not to perform any rituals or religious ceremonies.

Fishing for FAILURE

Man swims in the sea of self-satisfaction,

Nibbles at the bait of procrastination.

Swallows the hook of mediocrity, and

Ends up in the net of failure.

There are some experiences which are beyond explanation. They exist as sunlight. The manifestation of divinity is beyond all our limited perceptions. As for myself, I cannot explain the cause of incidents; but they exist as clear as sunlight. I humbly try to catch the spirit.

My parents and grandparents were indeed blessed to see Sai Baba when he was physically alive. One day Baba gave to my father a coconut, some sweets and two silver coins to my grandfather, who was then working as a Deputy Collector at Nasik. He asked my father to give him a 'Dakshina' of nine rupees and also gave him a chillim to smoke. Both my father and grandfather started worshiping Sai Baba even after we shifted to Jamkhandi in Karnataka. The elders in the family objected to this worship and in order not to hurt their feelings, my grandfather put the photo of Sai into a suitcase. They worshipped Sai Baba mentally till the last breath of their lives. As I was a pet grandchild, my grandfather used to narrate miracles of Sai Baba. He became Dewan of Bhor, later at Ramdurga and finally at Jamkhandi till it merged in the independent India. In his retired life he spent on spiritual quests and I remember Mr. B.D. Jatti (who later on became Vice-President of India) visiting him now and then.

During this time, Gurudev Ranade, who was then the Vice-Chancellor of Allahabad University frequently called on my grandfather at Jamkhandi. My grandfather died in 1958.

Then the problems started for us. I graduated at Poona and had got into the Law College when my grandfather passed away. Since the financial position became critical after his death, I had to leave the Law college and work as a teacher at Malvan. Here due to a strange coincidence, I came in contact with a girl, I liked her and subsequently we married.

After marriage, I learnt that my wife was a very quiet devotee of Sai Maharaj and as any other young man, in order to please the newly married spouse; I also started worshipping Sai Baba. She had a photo of Sai Baba with a horse. Along with her, I started reading 'Sai pothi'. I felt this was more pretence than devotion!

In 1965, we were blessed with a son. My son was healthy but gave indications of dumbness. We did not know what to do. We took him to Shirdi when he was two-year old. He virtually slept off on the' Samadhi'. When we returned home two days later, he was saying 'Baba- Baba'. He picked up vocabulary and he became normal in all respects. This miracle changed my attitude towards Baba and I accepted him as my God!

We shifted to Goa in 1960. On seeing our worship of Sai Baba a good number of neighbors also became His devotees. We hold ?Satsang' and the number is ever increasing. In 1977, a devotee by name Avinash went to Shirdi and brought a small bag of Udhi. My wife told him: "Avinash! You came from Shirdi. Why did you not bring Baba with you"? He answered: "Baba is coming - Baba is coming. He is on His way." Avinash's word turned out to be prophetic. On 9th June 1977 my wife had a dream: "Your brother-in-law is coming. Do not allow him straightaway. Take out ?Dristi' (evil eye) and then allow him to meet your husband". My wife saw in her dream Sai Baba in orange robes climbing the footsteps and herself taking out ?Dristi' with a piece of bread and then Sai Baba entering the house. The dream ended. I did not attach any importance to her dream but she had implicit faith that Baba is coming to us:

On 22nd June 1977, in the afternoon, someone tapped the front door. I opened the door and noticed that two cars were parked close to my house and around 20-30 people were standing near the cars. A Sai devotee by name Sri Abajee Panshikar greeted me and said: "We have brought Sai Murthji to install in the temple tomorrow. In the temple, arrangements are still to be made. So we would like to keep the idol in your house for tonight".

We agreed. Baba's idol was brought inside and kept on a table. In the night, we performed 'Arathi' and sang Sai-bhajans. My wife said: "Baba- you really belong to us. You should not leave us." I laughed at her request and said "Baba will go away to the temple."

Next day, around noon people started gathering near the temple. Sai-devotees Kulkarni, Kishore Sahoo, Jaya Rao came to my house. News came that there was some difficulty in installing the idol in the temple. Ultimately the crowd came to my place and in a chorus said: "Let the Murthi be here". They performed Ganapathi pooja, Sathyanarayana pooja and then the idol was installed on a table in my house. Baba has stayed permanently with us since then! In our own humble way we worship Him. People from different parts of the world have attended ?arati' and ?pooja' in our house and everyone has got some experience or the other. Prayers have been answered. Sai Baba is blessing us and is close to us in every moment of life. Thus Sai Baba came to us in an incredible manner.

Back to normal, the Recitation of Sri Sai Amrit Vani was held again at Sidhartha Extension, New Delhi. It was very soothing, peaceful and gave much peace to the mind and Baba showed HIS presence. We arrived back here from Chandigarh on Monday night and on Tuesday morning Figure of Trunk of Ganesh Ji along with a mouse was formed with Udi on the photo of Baba in the mandir. It was the 4th day of Ganesh Charturthi. On Saturday the , Ganesh Chartuthi, trunk of Ganeshji was formed in the mandir at Chandigarh. On our coming here figure was formed here. I sent the 2 photos to all the devotees as attachments.

There were about 70 devotees, who attended the recitation in person and they came from far off places. Following devotees participated in absencia in the recitation of Sri Sai Amrit Vani, Pooja, prayers to Baba ( Shirdi) and Prayan of Sri Sai Satcharitra* by reciting Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places on 20th Sept 2007 (The list is sorted as per their email ids, to avoid duplications) . However Mrs. Gupta prayed for all the devotees. In this list only those devotees are included, who themselves recited or read Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places.

This Thursday the 20th Sept 2007. we enjoyed the following Leelas of Baba (of Shirdi). It may seems to be repitative for the old members, but when the Leelas are repetitive and so the discription is also repitative. Every week many new members join the group, so I have to repeat the whole events that happen on this day.

1. On Tuesday, Udi started oozing from the two photos on the wall and Hindi words `RAM' `SHAM' and `OM', and figure of Trishool were formed with Udi on one photo. Udi also started oozing from the photo and statue in the mandir. Being the Ganesh Pooja Days, A trunk of Ganesh Ji was formed with Udi along with a mouse was formed on the photo of Baba in the mandir.

2. There was lot of Water from the Charans this Thursday also. Thali was emptied several times. The taste of water was similar to gulab jal and kewara mix. After distribution of Prasad, this water was also given to the devotees and again the Thali was filled with water.

3. Lap of Mrs. Gupta was filled with 2-3 spoonfull of Udi during the prayers.

4. Several devotees had Udi in the books of Sri Sai Amrit Vani.

5. On Thursday as soon as Bhog was offered, it was duly accepted by Baba. We noticed that the Bhog , which was placed before HIM was partially eaten. Part of Bhog was on the lips of photo and statue of Baba. Different items were there on lips in different photos. A piece of Ladoo was there in the Bhiksha Patra, in one photo. Parts of the remains in the box were given to the devotees who offered that item of bhog to Baba.

6. The feeling of Presence of Baba during the recitation of Sai Amrit Vani, Prayer was very strong.

7. All the boxes of Bhog, which were kept on the table were blessed with Udi.

8. Udi was there on the Many Photos, Statues and other documents placed before Baba on the table as soon as they were placed.

9. Two Sai Satcharitra which were placed on the table before Baba, were blessed with Udi in between the pages.

10. During the Pooja many devotees saw three lines of Chandan appearing on the forehead of Baba on the big photo on the wall.

* Last time Mrs Gupta completed the Prayan of Sri Sai Satcharitra, so this time she Started another book Sri Sai Leelamrit. Published from SaiSansthan Shirdi. It has 21 Chapters and 222 pages. As the chapters are quite big, so Mrs Gupta read only 7 pages of the 1st Chapter today.

Sri Sai Amrit Vani started at 11:05 AM. Noon Aartee, the same Aartee which is being recited in Shirdi, started at 12:00 Hrs. followed by brief Meditation and the prayer, Prayan from Sri Sai Leelamrit was done. Mrs. Gupta offered prayers and thanks to Baba. Finally distribution of Prasad and the water from the Charans. Devotees narrated their experiences and the benefits they are have with Baba's Blessings.

Next Sri Sai Amrit Vani and Prayan of Sri Sai Satcharitra on 27th Sept will again be held at Sidhartha Extension, New Delhi. Devotees interested in attending it in person may contact on phone nos. 26346942, 9810714688 or 9312494767 only after 11 AM (IST) on any day except Thursdays but no calls on Thursdays PLEASE. They should NOT bring any bhog with them and be in time. Kids are also not allowed in the hall. Mobiles have to be put on silent mode during the Pooja.

This is not a story or fiction but a real life situation in 1974 that happened in TlSCO-owned Hathibari Limestone quarry in Sundargarh district of Orissa.

My second son was aged five years then and on his way to the school had consumed a few berries of a wild bushy plant which is very common in the mining area. On reaching the school he had continuous vomiting and the school authorities sent him home.

My wife arranged for him to be taken to the TISCO Camp Hospital. It was a case of acute poisoning. His condition turned grave as he started vomiting blood continuously. By the time I reached the hospital he had lost his consciousness and was gasping for breath. Doctors wanted to shift him to Rourkela - 32 km away for blood transfusion, if he regained consciousness in the next thirty minutes.

The deadline of 30 minutes was a trying time for all of us. My only hope was Lord Sainath. I prayed to Him for His help. If my son survives the crisis, I vowed that I will take him to Shirdi and offer a rose-garland to His Samadhi. Otherwise, I will forget Sai Baba once and for all, I cried bitterly.

The clock was ticking and seconds grew into minutes. My pulse too was heating faster. On a mental plane I was already at Shirdi prostrating to Baba's Samadhi and seeking His blessings. As the deadline of thirty minutes set by the Doctors was about to be over, my son cried out "Where is Baba?" Doctors examined him and confirmed that his body is warming up. They had a sigh of relief and told me: "Mr. Mani, your son is calling." In Hindi, 'Baba' refers to father and them though! Thai my son was looking for me. I told them that my son is calling the Almighty Sai Baba who is everywhere.

The recovery phase was very fast- My son responded to the treatment and became all right soon. Everyone was happy at the outcome. It is indeed His grace and my son had a re-birth.

Sai Baba of Shirdi did not write any books. All that is available is records of a number of conversations between him and his devotees preserved in various biographical accounts. The following is a conversation which a devotee, Nana Govind Chandorkar, a Deputy Collector who was a traditionally well read orthodox person, had with Shirdi Sai Baba.

Nana: Baba, I am fed up with this samsAra. It is only nissAra (thast without content). Please help me cut the bonds which bind me to it. What appears as pleasant in the beginning ends in misery. Fate tosses us hither and thither. I don't see an iota of happiness in this samsAra.

Baba: Nana, you are prattling like a mad man. What you say is only partially true. You have misunderstood the truth. The samsAra will exist as long as the body exists. No one can escape from it. How can you? Even I am under its clutches. The samsAra is varied and different. It is the work of Desire and Anger. All the vagaries of the mind and the body constitute samsAra. By running away and hiding yourself in a forest you cannot escape it. What you are now has been brought on you by yourself. You are only experiencing the fruits of your actions done by you in your previous lives. It is by that cause the effect of the appearance of this body has taken place. This is called deha-prArabdha. The soul gets a body just to experience the consequences of actions of its own previous lives. Without experiencing the consequences of prArabdha karma one cannot leave this world. Why do people look different? Why, in fact, do various living beings look different? It is all because of the karma of previous lives. A rich man's dog rolls in joy on a cushioned sofa. The more we realise our Sadguru Sai Baba and think about our Radhakrishna Swamiji, our faith in him is firmed up that Swamiji's grace and blessings are nothing but Sai Baba's actions.

I recall an occasion in 1980 when our Swamiji's birthday was celebrated from 4th May 1980 to 6th May 1980 in our residence. Swamiji had attained 'Mahasamadhi' earlier in that year. We had Vishnu Sahasranama Parayan and later 'archana' to Swamiji. After the puja, 'prasad' was offered to all. A devotee-couple sat in the sacred place where our Swamiji had his 'Mahaprasad' for the last time in our house in 1978. The significance of this sacred spot was mentioned to the devotee-couple. They were very happy about it.

Ladies started serving the dishes, and I was chanting Vishnu Sahasra Namam facing Swamiji's picture and the guests. As the 'prasad' was about to be concluded, the devotee-couple sitting in the sacred spot where Swamiji had his 'prasad' started exclaiming: "See, Swamiji is here - Swamiji is here". Everyone could not for a moment realise what was happening. Then, we saw a bunch of flowers floating in the hall and coming down with a whizzing sound. It settled down a nearby window where our Swamiji had sat for the last occasion. The flowers were distributed as 'prasad' to the devotees. We continue to experience Swamiji's living presence in our life. His spiritual force guides and protects us in every thing we do.

It was sometimes during April-May '90 around 9.00 A.M. my boss in the office called me and said: "There was a phone call just now from our Mani who seems to be awfully upset that his little son has put a groundnut (Cheenabadam/ Mungfalli) into his nose and it is stuck up inside neither coming out nor going down chocking his nose. Please rush, get a vehicle from our garage and take the baby to the nearest doctor for removing the groundnut from his nose. Please go and waste no time." I left immediately.

When I met the parents they were very much upset and worried. We went to the local clinic and though the doctor tried his best to remove the seed from the baby's nose he could not pull it out smoothly without causing any injury for want of proper surgical instrument and he suggested us to rush to an E.N.T. Specialist. We proceeded to Rourkela where there is a big nursing home with specialists but were told that the ENT specialist had left the hospital for lunch. We rushed to his residence. Meanwhile, when we were traveling, I remembered BABA's Holy Udhi in my purse which I always keep. I took some Udhi, applied on the baby's forehead and gave a little in his mouth and consoled and assured the parents that they need not worry at this and Baba will take care of their baby. When we reached the ENT specialist's residence he had just finished his lunch. He immediately attended to the baby and believe it or not, within seconds he pulled out the groundnut seed from the baby's nose without causing the slightest pain or injury. The doctor told me it was all God's grace we have reached in time and brought the baby to him! He showed us the big half portion of the groundnut which was stuck up in the nose of the baby.

The parents were happy at the outcome. They said it is SAILEELA. They promised me that certainly they would attend Sai Baba Puja on a Thursday with their offerings to Sai Baba. On the last occasion when I met him he told me the baby suffered from some minor injuries on 2/3 occasions by falling and hitting on hard objects and he remembered their vow and he would certainly come on 30-8-1990 (Thursday). I told him they are most welcome to Sai-Home any time for Divine Darshan of Sai Maharaj and their prayers. He joined us in our ceremonies on 30-8-90 with great devotion to show his gratitude to Shirdi Nath Sai Baba in our Sai-Home. How Baba pulls His devotees towards Him in His own style. "Even if you discard Me, I drag you (my devotee) towards me and be ever with you, once you have taken refuge in me and I rush to your rescue wherever you may be" - SAI BABA

The Substance

Sage Vyasa is reputed to have compiled the four Vedas, and composed the eighteen Puranas and some other works. One day a student approached him and put the question:-

"Revered Master, you have written so much. Where is the time to read it? Can't you tell me the substance of your entire writings?"

Quick came the following reply from the profound sage: "Yes, my son, half a sloka will do: To help others is virtue or religion; to hurt others is sin.

Time comes in everybody's life to pay his gratitude to his Guru. During the past seven years, Sai Baba and Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji have showered upon me and my family their blessings and have pulled us out of many a difficult situation. The purpose of this article would have been served if all the devotees of Sai Baba and Swamiji cast their burden on them and wait to see the results.

In 1985, my daughter passed her XII Standard examination. She wanted to become a doctor and nothing else. Though she had secured good marks, they were not good enough to get her automatic entry into a Government medical college. As she was very adamant, we got her admitted to a private medical college. Though this was much beyond our financial capacity, Baba and Swamiji saw to it that her medical education was completed unhindered. The moment I put her in the college, certain forces which were burning with jealousy and were inimical to us, got my husband's salary reduced by 50% to see that his daughter's education was discontinued (my husband is a partner in a family business and takes his monthly salary). Sai Baba and Swamiji put all of them to shame by helping at every step with money encouragement and guidance through dreams and visions.

After finishing her MBBS in December '90, my daughter wanted to go to Saudi Arabia and earn a lot of money. She could not succeed as three years' experience is a must. Then we came across an alliance where the groom is working as a doctor in Saudi Arabia and was confident of getting her a good job even without the requisite experience. My daughter was married on 12-12-91 and joined her husband immediately thereafter. She got a nice job and is doing well. What else is this except the mercy of Sai Baba and Swamiji?

While trying to find a groom for her, because of my faith in Swamiji, I felt that her would be husband would also be from Bangalore. Lo and behold, without any effort we got a very good alliance from Bangalore from a religious and pious family, who demanded nothing from us. As we had spent heavily on our daughter's education, we were unprepared financially to conduct the marriage. Help came to us unasked. Hail His mercy!

Swamiji also got our son admission in the National Defense Academy, Pune. He saw to it that he passed out from there in December '91 and he is now in "Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, waiting to be commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant by the end of this year. As getting through NDA training is not easy, we were worried throughout. But Baba and Swamiji appeared in my dreams several times and assured "Don't worry. One day your son will become a very big officer in the Army."

Swamiji once told me in my dream: "Then baytti ko meraj dhua hai".

Like me and my husband, my two children have also great faith in Baba and Swamiji and that faith has not gone in vain.

I have read umpteen times Baba Satcharitra and Sri R. Parthasarathi' s "Apostle of Love". I and my family have been amply rewarded.

It was the year 1980. The Dipavali Holidays had begun. Sri Jai Rao (son-in-law of late Kishor Sahu) started visiting us frequently. He used to attend Arathi session in the evening and then go home to Vasco. On one Friday, during Aarati session, my wife saw some events taking place in the space, close to Baba's Murthi. She saw that Sri Rao had fallen down from his Motor Cycle and his head was sprayed with a white powder. On the same night Baba appeared in her dream and said, "Your Rao has fallen down and broken his hand. Do not worry much, it is predestined, but I am distributing the quantum of suffering". My wife woke up suddenly and narrated the strange dream to me. I told her that it was a dream and not to worry.

On Saturday Jai Rao came to Calangule in the morning. He talked to me on different subjects. As it was noon, we sat for lunch. A boy named Bhanudas (Noti) happened to come to take Baba's Darshan. He is my neighbor and is a motor cycle pilot. My wife said to Rao, as she was serving "Noti is a real devotee of Sai Baba. He always helps those who are in difficulty." Shree Jai Rao exchanged greetings with him. Noti went home. The evening Aarati session was over and then Rao also left.

As Rao was leaving my wife cautioned him and advised him to go slow. Rao said, "Bai. I have been riding a motorcycle even in States. I am a seasoned driver. Your fears are baseless." My wife said to him. "Rao, nobody can escape destiny. Devotion to God mitigates the intensity less suffering". Rao said jokingly, “I do not understand the philosophy the destiny. Nothing is going to happen to me. You will see me tomorrow perfectly safe". Rao reached Vasco safely that night. On Monday Rao came as usual. He had lunch with us. He had his meal and then decided lo go to Vasco at 5 p.m. My wife insisted he should stay and go to Vasco the next day. Rao said, he could not stay as his wife was waiting for him. Rao left Calangule at 5.10 p.m. At 5.45 p.m. he dashed against a cycle rider at a place called Agashi. The cycle rider was carrying wheat flour. The cycle was badly damaged but the rider escaped unhurt. Rao fell down on his face and the whole flour was sprayed all over his body.

The lamp was damaged, his spectacles were broken to pieces and Rao got an injury to his left hand. People gathered. Rao could not get up. Just at the moment Noli was coming from Vasco to Calangute, He saw the crowd on the road. He slopped his vehicle to find out who was injured. He could not believe it - it was the same person Rao, who had exchanged greetings with him in my house, two days back. Noli lifted Rao and took him to a clinic. After first aid, he took him to Vasco in a private car.

Noli came to us and reported what had happened. At the same time when Rao fell down at Agashi a big bee stung a fingered my wife and her hand started swelling. She said tome "Rao has fallen down, Baba hesitated his distribution. Let us accept it. One Mr.Lucio Miranda. (Rao's close friend) was in Bombay when the incident took place. On the same day and at the same time, some goondas attacked him near Strand Cinema and forcibly pulled off his wrist-watch causing an injury to his left hand. On the next day we all went to Vasco to see Rao. There he got a phone message from Lucio about his encounter with goondas. Rao greeted us with one hand and said to my wife, "Bai, put a little Udi on my hand".

This incident profoundly speaks that we are all inter-related. Destiny is not absolute. We are brothers and sisters in Sai family. We all have to share pleasure and pain without any compliant. This is Baba’s Spiritual Communism, or calls it Socialism.

I participated in the Guru Poornima celebrations at Sai Spiritual Centre, Bangalore on the 7th July 1990. We had 'Satsang' with several Guru-bandhus like Sri Bhaskara Rao, Sri Seshadri and others. Sai Baba prompted me to propose an additional one-hour program of daily chanting of 'Om Sai Sri Sai Jaya Jaya Sai' from 5 pm to 6 pm. everyone agreed and this divine program commenced from the 8th July 1990 onwards.

I stay in 'Doopanahally' area far away from Thyagarajanagar. However Sai Baba enabled me to daily travel in a city bus from Doopanahally and am present at 5 pm for the 'Nama Japam'. There was no problem for three days on 8th, 9th and 10th July 1990. However on the 11th July '90, I left my house at 3-30 pm and came to the bus stop. Someone told me that the direct bus from Doopanahally to NR Colony is cancelled and advised me to try alternative bus service to reach Sai Mandir. Accordingly I got into a bus and got down at down at Richmond Circle bus stop by about 4-10 pm. A bus from Shivaji Nagar side came and was fully crowded. In my enthusiasm to be on time at the Mandir, I tried to board the crowded bus. 'No -1, could not' and I was pushed aside. I fell down on the ground and by Sai-grace nothing happened.

As I got up, a school boy came to me and handed over to me a two-rupee note saying that it fell down from my pocket when I was pushed aside. I was astonished as I had taken a ten-rupee note from home and after purchasing a ticket for one-rupee the balance amount of nine rupees was intact in my purse. Then I remembered Baba's offering of two-pice 'Dakshina' to his Guru. In the form of the school-boy Sai Baba was warning me of 'faith' and 'patience' and not to do things in haste. The boy shoved the two-rupee note in my hand and mysteriously vanished in the crowd at the bus stop.

True to the warning given by Sai Baba, I got into another bus which was quite empty and traveled comfortably to the Mandir. My eyes were full of tears of gratitude to Sai Maharaj for saving me from a calamity.

Life after Death
All questions at Sai Spiritual Centre one day were about 'Life after Death'. Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji only smiled and did not give a simple answer. To his devotees who requested to know the reason for his evasive­ness, Swamiji later said: 'Have you observed that it is precisely those who do not know what to do with this life who want another that will last forever?" "But is there life after death or is there not?" persisted a devotee. "Is there life before death? - that is the question" said the Swamiji enigmatically.
