Satsang Anna Saheb Karindkar

Satsang Anna Saheb Karindkar

This gem of a devotee was born in Dhanu Road station in Shake 1772 [1851] He died at age 81 on 24th march 1931 at 2.30 a.m in Malyan [Dhanu road station] He was conscious till the end. He seemed to know that his end was near. He summoned his entire family and asked them to sing Baba’s Aarati and Naam Jap. His wish was to read the Shrimad Bhagvat Gita and this was done.

Anna Saheb studied up to 7th standard Marathi medium; and discontinued because his eyes hurt terribly. But his love for reading, only seemed to increase. His home had a well-stocked library. It contained numerous books both religious and non-religious, magazines of every kind and of course the newspaper. A philanthropist, social worker, and educationist he spent his life doing good for the community. Averse to doing a job and working for others he took up farming.

From the yields of the farm, he often donated, grain to, the needy, temples, and various agencies, and to people for functions.

The Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan and Sai Leela Magazine were his favorite projects. Ever since the first Sai Leela Magazine was published he subscribed to it, and prevailed upon others to do the same. Needless to say, that he preserved each and every Magazine date wise, very carefully. Further, he advertised, and made announcements of weddings, ceremonies, and other occasions, thus paying for them. It made him happy, that by doing so the Magazine, got funds. Time and again he sent donations through Dev to the Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan. Like an accountant he set money aside, and sent it to the Sansthan, for every festival celebrated in Shirdi. Upon subscribing 100 Rs, he became a member of the Sansthan. He then sent 100 Rs, for each of his sons. Shri Krishna Janardhan, Keshev Mahadev, and Haribhau Karnik. Thus he got his sons to become members, perforce. Once he had gone to Nana Saheb Chandorkars house, there he found Das Ganu’s Bhakta Leelamrit; and Sant Leelamrit lying about and uncared for. After taking permission from Nana Shaeb, he sold them for 150 Rs. He sent that money to Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan, as a subscription for Nanas two sons.

Baba’s Grace enveloped him, and Baba came to his home through a Photograph. The wonderful Leela is given here. Keshav Ganesh Joshi was his Son-in- law. Keshev got a portrait of Baba painted through the owner of Gyan Sagar Litho Press. He asked Kaka Saheb Mahajini for help, as Keshev liked the portrait that Kaka had. And he wanted a similar one. Thus a beautiful portrait was painted. Then he got it framed with a rich colored wood. When it was ready, and he was satisfied. he, and BV Dev took it home. With due rituals it was hung on the wall. A few months later Dev visited Anna Sahib’s home in Dhanu. He was very surprised to see that very same portrait in his home. Curious about this he asked Anna how that portrait came to his home. Anna said “As you well know that Joshi, brought this portrait home, and hung it on the wall, and a few days later he, had a dream. Baba told him “Take me to Dhanu, and give this portrait to Anna” Joshi had no choice, as it was Baba’s wish.” Needless to say that Anna performed Morning and Evening Aarti, daily. Chanted the Vishnu Sahasranam, offered Naivedya, and lovingly took care of it.

Satsang Sakharam Hari Alias Bapu Saheb Jog.

Satsang Sakharam Hari Alias Bapu Saheb Jog.

Bapu Saheb was a kind and gentle man, but because of his position of power, and his dealings with the labor force he looked stern. But he did have a quick temper. Baba, slowly but surely changed this. He lived frugally and had quite a bit of money saved. Baba knew that he was egoistic about his wealth. So on the pretext of Dakshina Baba kept demanding Dakshina again and again from him till he was depleted of all his savings. Bapu Saheb learned a valuable lesson. His routine every month was to collect his pension from Kopergaon, pay his dues to the shopkeepers, and what ever remained he would place before Baba. Baba trusted him immensely and would often give His money to him, for safekeeping. Bapu Saheb would keep the money safely, and was constantly aware of Baba’s money. When the need arose Baba would ask him to buy this or that from it. Baba would often give him Rs100, and a few days latter jokingly say “Bapu Saheb I gave you Rs 125 a few days ago. Go and fetch it.” Bapu Saheb would tell Baba that He had given him only Rs100. This happened a few times, and Bapu Saheb indignantly said “Baba I don’t want to be involved with Your money business. Keep Your money with someone else” Baba would then pacify him saying “ Bapu Saheb don’t get angry! I made a mistake, it was Rs 100 okay” Once a devotee gave Baba a guinea. Baba gave to Bapu Shaeb and said, “What is this?” He told Baba that it was a guinea or equivalent to 15 Rs. Baba said, “it is worth 30 Rs you keep it and give Me 30 Rs”.

Bapu Saheb looked after Baba’s affairs, after Megha’s death on 19.1. 1912, he was given the honour of performing Baba’s Aarati till Baba’s Niryan in 1918. All the Seva that Megha used to perform fell on Bapu Saheb’s shoulders. Like Baba’s Aarati in Dwarakamai, evening Aarati in Sathe Wada, Aarati in Dixit Wada, and Guru Paduka Sthan. Bapu Saheb took his duties very seriously usually there were a substantial number of devotees present for the Aarati. However if there were a few or none at all, it did not bother Jog, he conducted the Aarati with devotion and zeal. The couple led a life of austerity; they were up at the crack of dawn. After bathing in cold water, they performed ‘puja’ to their household deities. Followed by religious rituals, and reading of the Pothi, then they went to the Dwarakamai for Baba‘s darshan. Bapu Saheb stayed at Baba’s side doing all the chores required. Tai went home, prepared the prasad for the Aarati and looked after the innumerable guests that Baba sent.

Tai was the epitome of “Bhakti”. She was intensely devoted to Baba. Her love for her ‘Guru’ was so passionate that after Baba’s Niryan she lost self control. She wandered the streets of Shirdi aimlessly, as if searching for her Guru. She had a vacant look on her face, oblivious of her surroundings. So desolate was she that she died two months later.

Once Bapu Saheb asked Baba, as to when He would give him Sanyas. Baba replied, “As soon as you are free of your worldly responsibilities” Thus Bapu Saheb was now free. He stayed on at Shirdi for a few years and looked after Baba’s Samadhi. After Kaka Saheb Dixit’s death the other devotees left Shirdi. Being quite alone he decided to go to Sakori. There he wore a Kafni, and took Sanyas. His decision to go to Sakori is perplexing, as he and Upasani never had a cordial relationship. Once he dragged Upasani and brought him to Dwarakamai. Then he proceeded to tell Baba about the disagreement and asked Baba to be the judge. Never the less at Sakori he attended to Upasani with the same devotion, as he had for Baba.

As he had died a Sanyasi, his Samadhi lies in front of the Upasani Ashram in Sakori.

Sri Sai Amrit Vani and Prayan of Sai Leelamrit *

Sri Sai Amrit Vani and Prayan of Sai Leelamrit
25th Oct 2007

Jai Sai Ram
We receive lots of letters for the prayers and
for the inclusion of the names in the recitation of Sri Sai Amrit
Vani. I want to make some things clear. (i) Every week we consider
letters received upto Wednesday evening (Indian Standard Time), as
it not possible for me to open laptop on Thursdays and particularly
in the morning. (ii) In the list "list of devotees who recited Sri
Sai Amrit Vani", which is appended along with this letter, we include
devotees, who says that they will recite Sri Sai Amrit Vani in their
letters. (iii) They and all other devoteed who have send the letters
for prayer are also prayed for, along with all the devotees by Mrs
Gupta. Sending the reply to individuals is not possible. Please write
self contained complete letters along with the
place.

Due to Dusshera and MahaSamadhi day on Sunday,
Udi was oozing since Sunday from all the photos and statue from all
over the places. This Thursday there were only 60-70 devotees
present, who attended the recitation of Sri Sai Amrit Vani, prayan of
Sri Sai Leelamrit and the pooja.

Following devotees participated in absencia in
the recitation of Sri Sai Amrit Vani, Pooja, prayers to Baba (
Shirdi) and Prayan of Sri Sai Satcharitra* by reciting Sri Sai Amrit
Vani at their places on 25th Oct 2007 (The list is sorted as per
their email ids, to avoid duplications) . However Mrs. Gupta prayed
for all the devotees. In this list only those devotees are included,
who themselves recited or read Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places.

This Thursday the 25th Oct 2007. we enjoyed the
following Leelas of Baba (of Shirdi).

1. This time Udi was oozing from from Sunday itself due to
Dusshera and Mahasamadhi day on Sunday. Hindi words `RAM' `SHAM'
and `OM', and figure of Trishool and symbol of Swastic were formed
with Udi on the photos.
2. There was lot of Water from the Charans this Thursday also.
Thali was emptied several times. The taste of water was similar to
gulab jal and kewara mix. After distribution of Prasad, this water
was also given to the devotees and again the Thali was filled with
water.
3. Lap of Mrs. Gupta was filled with lots of Udi during the
prayers.
4. Several devotees had Udi in the books of Sri Sai Amrit Vani
and on themselves during the pooja.
5. On Thursday as soon as Bhog was offered, it was duly accepted
by Baba. We noticed that the Bhog , which was placed before HIM was
partially eaten. Part of Bhog was on the lips of photo and statue
of Baba. Different items were there on lips in different photos.
Parts of the remains in the box were given to the devotees who
offered that item of bhog to Baba.
6. The feeling of Presence of Baba was very strong during the
recitation of Sai Amrit Vani, Pooja and Prayer.
7. All the boxes of Bhog, which were kept on the table were
blessed with Udi.
8. Udi was there on all the articles placed before Baba. Many
Photos, Statues, Books, Pandents and other documents placed before
Baba on the table were blessed with Udi as soon as they were placed.
9. One Sai Satcharitra was gifted to a devotee and it was too
blessed by Baba by giving the Udi inbetween the pages.

Jai Sai Ram

Sri Sai Amrit Vani started at 11:05 AM. Noon

Satsang Link to Newly renovated Gurusthan & leela of Baba on the moon

Om Sai Ram
Here is link to the pictures of the newly renovated Gurusthan in Shirdi... I was amazed to see this site and I am sure you will feel the same.
http://www.shrisaib abasansthan.org/main_English/saibaba/picturegallery/ newgurusthan/gurusthan.html

And also here is a small video clipping about the recent leela of Baba on the moon
http://youtube.com/watch?v=3kqdlz8DSqY
This note was sent to me by a Sai devotee who was in Shirdi at the time of the 89th punyatithi funtion of Saibaba and who actually witnessed this leela---[here is a copy and paste of that email that she sent me ]

Satsang Sakharam Hari Alias Bapu Saheb Jog.

Satsang Sakharam Hari Alias Bapu Saheb Jog.

Sakharam Hari Alias Bapu Saheb Jog.

Baba loved him so much that when he first visited Shirdi, Baba would not allow him to return and get his belongings. Bapu Shaeb was probably born in 1856. He worked as a supervisor for the government, and in 1909 he availed of ‘retiring furlough’ and came to Shirdi with his wife. The couple had no children, and lived comfortably on their pension able income.

One of Bapu Saheb’s close relative was the famous Satpurush Vishnu Bua. Before visiting Shirdi he had visited Kabad, to pay homage to Sadhu Sakharam Maharaj. He spent some time doing Seva there. Bapu Saheb thought that he would stay for a few days in Shirdi, and then return to Kabad and spend the rest of his life doing Seva there. But Baba has other plans for him. At Shirdi he stayed in Sathe Wada. When the other devotes said something that he did not like and he said he would go to Kabad. Baba said, “Does the Wada belong to Sathe’s father? I’ll tell Dada Kelkar not to trouble you. You just stay peacefully there. Okay!” Baba spoke so sweetly that Bapu Saheb stayed on.

Bapu Saheb was a ‘Chithpavan Konkansth Brahmin,’ orthodox and strictly followed the ‘Sovale’ritual. He was righteous, honest, and straightforward in his dealings. His wife was of a similar predicament and they were’ made for each other.’ Her name was Tai and Baba called her “Aayi”. Bapu Saheb was a” Datta Upasak” [Staunch devotee and follower of Datta ritual] He silently went about doing his Sadhana. The devera [Shrine] in his room had all the Gods. It was his custom to offer a Kafni along with Naivedya to Lord Datta every Datta Jayanthi. One year while at Shirdi he had an irresistible desire to offer a Kafni to Baba on Datta Jayanthi. So, he got Bala Shimpi to stitch a Kafni. On Datta Jajanthi he took the Kafni; and after doing puja to Baba, offered the Kafni. Baba accepted the Kafni, and in turn gave him one of His Kafni as prasad. Happily he took the Kafni and preserved it. In the evening he would wear the Kafni, tie a white cloth around his head, and go for Baba’s darshan. He called it “Durbari Poshak”[Court Dress]. At other times he wore ordinary clothes.

(to be contd…..)

Satsang Gopalrao Mukund Butti

Satsang Gopalrao Mukund Butti

Gopalrao Mukund Butti
Date Of Birth—1873 Date Of Samadhi 1927

Samadhi
It is only befitting to write about Gopalrao Mukund Butti during the month of Ashwin as devotees around the world are celebrating Dussera and Baba’s Maha Samadhi; on Vijay Dashami(Which usually falls between late September and October).

The Samadhi Mandir will be kept open day and night for the devotees to take darshan. I for one humbly thank Butti for giving us [Baba’s devotees] the Samadhi Mandir. Very little is written about this great devotee.

His ancestors lived in Bardi;. Their surname was Ghazaale. Legend has it that Gopalrao’s grandfather was a shrewd but kind businessman and worked for the Bhosale royal family. When Raghuji Raje Bhosale died, the British seized and annihilated their regime. Their enormous wealth gold, precious stones along with elephants, horses and bulls were then auctioned off at a pittance. Sadashiv bought a lot of the gold and gems. And further enhanced the wealth that, the family already owned. Thus he earned the name Booty which in English stands for loot.

The family business was mainly money lending and banking. Though they were wealthy and business minded; they did a lot of philanthropic work. They had just and cordial relations with the rich and the poor. Especially Butti’s father Mukund Rao who was very spiritual and religious. Their Ista Devta was Gopal Krishna and all the religious festivals were celebrated with a great deal of pomp and show. Mukund Rao’s Guru was Gajanan Maharaj of Shehgaon’ and the Maharaj often visited their home.

They were Charak Bhramin of the Shandilya Gothra. The annals [puranas] of Charak Brahmins has featured their family tree very prominently. Vivid descriptions of their philanthropic and social deeds are mentioned. They built Dharamshalas, Gowshalas, Schools and Dispensaries and gave monetary help to poets, writers and pundits.

Gopalrao was born in 1873 in Bardi; and was the youngest of three brothers. His father had a great influence on him. At the tender age of 15 or 16 he would return from school and after washing his hands and feet, he would take darshan of Gajanan Maharaj when he visited their home thus Gopalrao was very cultured. Highly educated [he studied in Manchester .U.K for sometime] he had a love for poetry, reading and was fond of saints.

He married a girl from the Khandwalkar family who was cultured and educated. They had three sons. Gopalrao and his wife were good minded and did their share of philanthrophic deeds.

Gopalrao helped the historian Neelkanth S. Hode Kadam and published his books on Indian history and the commentary of Shri Krishna Leela Amrit. Naryan Vaman Tilik was a poet and they welcomed him to stay in their home and gave him a portion of their Haveli [Manson] so he could carry on his writing undisturbed.

Shakaram B. Dhumal took Butti to Shirdi around 1908. Butti was overwhelmed by Baba’s divine personality and was changed for life. He made frequent visits to Shirdi.

SHIRDI BABA'S SACRED WORDS TO ABDUL...

SHIRDI BABA'S SACRED WORDS TO ABDUL...

Feature of the week: Sai Baba's Sacred words to Abdul
Abdul was amongst Sai Baba's close devotees and lived with Sai Baba in Shirdi for a continuous period of twenty nine years before Sai Baba's Mahasamadhi and then remained in Shirdi for a further thirty six years until his own samadhi in 1954. Abdul wrote down some of Sai Baba's utterances and explanations and over the years these notes accumulated into a small volume. After Sai Baba's Mahasamadhi, this old notebook manuscript became very precious to Abdul as he made use of it, according to Sri Narashimaswamy, as a 'Book of Prophecy' through which Sai Baba's message and guidance could be obtained. Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Marianne Warren, Abdul's notes have been fully translated and published in her book - "Unraveling the Enigma - Shirdi Sai Baba in the Light of Sufism" published by Sterling Publishers, India. In foreword to the book Dr. N.K.Wagle of University of Toronto says:
"Dr. Marianne Warren's work is the first scholarly attempt to provide a historical context to Sai Baba's teachings. An equally original point argued convincingly by Dr. Warren concerns Sai Baba's knowledge of Islamic Theology. Dr. Warren has translated the Saibaba manuscript in which Sai Baba gave discourses on Islamic history and thought to his pupil, Abdul, his personal attendant, whose tomb rests near Sai Baba's shrine". For Devotees who want to advance spiritually, and are looking for gems to collect as Baba used to say, these sayings are invaluable and should be taken as word personally spoken to each one of us without any prejudice, argument, discussion or controversy.
Abdul's notes on Sai Baba's teachings:
Page 12: The religious emotion is purely spiritual. Only secondarily it relates to the material world. O Parvardigar! - Universal Sustainer. O God! O Habib! - My Beloved! What we see in this material state is not real because you cannot understand it through the intellect or by inference. Those who consider the spirit as without beginning, this opinion is incorrect because thinking itself is not permanent. And life is the real thing. The body is subordinate to it...
Page 14 : To understand the true form of God is difficult. In the Qur'an, it is forbidden to picture God with form. If you walk on the path of righteousness, then you will not feel the need for it. It requires great effort to walk on the path [of righteousness] i.e. tapas. When a person practices taps (riyajat), divine insight (ma'rifa) will automatically come. A sura from the Qur'an says something to this effect, Ajjain jahidu fina tabulana riyajat - He who performs tapas, I regard him to be on the path. It would not be proper to give him full knowledge about it. But before you proceed on the path of Allah, you must discipline the mind. It is strategic to strengthen the defenses, with fortifications. If an army does not move how can the war of righteousness be fought. O dear friend! Know this that the body is the kingdom of the heart. Do not think that the heart has many armies. The Qur'an says: Maya alam rabbuk janud ilahu - The army of Allah, do not think that it has to besiege the mind/heart. The heart is created for the realization of God. To find the way to attaining a vision of God is a man's true task. For the vision of God, divine sight is necessary.
Page 20 : [Similar to page 12 but longer and written at a different time] Religious emotion in full is purely spiritual. It is not material. Secondly it means that you will see the world as material or only relatively real (until you have a vision of God). Parvardigar! O Dear One!., O Dear One! the material (relative state) world is unreal. There is no place for intellect and inference. Those who regard the spirit as without beginning, this is not true. It is wrong to address the spirit because it is dependent on others. The real form of man is prana - life force. The body is under the control of prana. The people who equate the spirit with the body are wrong. The body is impermanent. Animals also have a spirit, which is also impermanent, called dil or heart, which seeks the mercy of God.

Satsang Dr. Jaganath Vithal Pandit Geminis

Satsang Dr. Jaganath Vithal Pandit Geminis
(DR.PANDIT)

Dr. Jaganath Vithal Pandit Geminis (DR.PANDIT) Dr. Pandit was related
to Tatya Saheb Nulkar on his mother's side. He was devoted to Kaka
Puranik. In SaiSatcharita # 11 the story of Dr Pandit is beautifully
described where he offers Guru Puja to Baba by marking His forehead
with a Tripunda of sandal wood paste. As this was the puja, he offered
his Guru Kaka Puranik. Pandit was devout and innocent. His action
conveys the highest truth that there is no difference between his
brahmin Guru and the Kafni-clad Sai Baba. And Baba perceiving his
clear conscience was quite pleased rather than flying into a rage.
Dr. Pandit hailed from Kolapur [Ratnagiri district] and was a medical
doctor. He studied in a medical college in Calcutta.
His descendents are
living in Pune. The 'Tripunda;' is symbolic of the 'gunas' [Raja; Tama
and Satva] of which the universe is made of. When Dr. Pandit drew the
Tripunda on his Guru's forehead, he believed that his Guru could
destroy these gunas. Befittingly he drew the Tripunda on Baba's
forehead which symbolizes "Triputi Nashak'. Baba could easily
destroy these gunas.

Satsang Balaram Mankar

Satsang Balaram Mankar

Balaram Mankar

Balaram Mankar was indeed fortunate to have resorted to Baba's feet. After his wife died he gave all his wordily possessions to his son and came to Shirdi. After some time Baba gave him Rs 12 and asked him to go to Machindergad [a fort near Satana] and do penance.

The 12 Rs is symbolic there off ?that mans earthly and heavenly environment in 12 year cycles push him on his natural path to achieve emancipation.' Balaram though saddened at the thought of leaving Sai Baba and Shirdi obeyed Baba's command. He went to Machindergad and mediated there. One day sitting in yogic posture he got Shatshatkar. He asked Baba why He had sent him there. Baba told him that it was to calm his restlessness and doubting mind and show His omnipresence.

After a period of penance he decided go home to Dadar via Poona.

At Poona station he went to get his ticket when a Kunabi [peasant] approached him and gave Mankar his ticket saying ?I was to go to Dadar but I suddenly remembered that I have some important business to attend to. Hence I cannot go.'

Mankar was very happy to get the ticket so effortlessly! Having thanked the peasant he got out the money to pay him. But the peasant merged in the crowd and was not to be seen. This was yet another leela of Baba's Omnipresence.

Balaram then returned to Shirdi and spent his time doing Baba's Seva and incessantly chanting Baba's name. Baba gave this small photograph of His to his family. Mankar after ceaselessly doing Baba's seva, breathed his last in Shirdi.

2)As per Bhagvad-Gita the sum total of all purified atmans soul in the cosmos is what we call Almighty

2) According to Sai Satcharitra if one wants to know about God,he should have the capacity to understand, and is not possible otherwise.

3)Vedic Religion declares that in every cycle of creation God manifests a form as Dakshinamurti and becomes the guru of the first human beings–those who were most spiritually evolved in the previous creation–teaching them the path to liberation (moksha).

4)God is love. He is an embodiment of eternal bliss, supreme peace and wisdom. He is all-merciful, omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent. He has neither beginning nor end. He is the Supreme Being or Paramatma. The Gita styles Him as Purushottama or Supreme Purusha or Maheswara. He knows everything in detail (Sarva-vid). He is the support for this world, body, mind, senses and Prana. Without Him not an atom can move. He is the womb for the Vedas. Indra, Agni, Varuna, Vayu and Yama are His assistants. Earth, water, fire, air and ether are His five powers. Maya is His illusive Shakti (power).

5)Srishti (creation), Sthiti (preservation) , Samhara (destruction) , Tirodhana or Tirobhava (veiling), and Anugraha (grace) are the five kinds of activities of God.

6)He exists,-past, present and future. He is unchanging amidst the changing phenomena. He is permanent amidst the impermanent, and imperishable amidst the perishable things of this world. He is eternal, perpetual, indestructible, immutable and imperishable. He has created this world through the three Gunas-Sattwa, Rajas and Tamas-for His own Leela (play). He has Maya under His control.

Baba's Mahasamadhi.

Baba's Mahasamadhi.

Jai sairam,

On the occasion of Baba's Mahasamadhi and Dassehra I would like to post some lines from the holy book Sai satcharitra (chapter 42):-

Previous Indication

"The readers up till now heard the stories of Baba's life. Let them now hear attentively Baba's Passing away. Baba got a slight attack of fever on 28th September, 1918. The fever lasted for 2 or 3 days, but afterwards Baba gave up his food and thereby He grew weaker and weaker. On the 17th day, i.e., Tuesday, the 15th October 1918, Baba left His mortal coil at about 2-30 p.m. (Vide Professor G.G. Narke's letter, dated 5th November 1918, to Dadasaheb Khaparde, published in Leelamagazine, Page 78, first year). Two years before this, i.e., in 1916, Baba gave an indication of His Passing away, but nobody understood it then. It was as follows:- On the Vijayadashmi (Dasara) day Baba at once got into wild rage in the evening when people were returning from 'Seemollanghan' (crossing the border or limits of the village). Taking off His head-dress, kafni and langota etc., He tore them and threw them in the Dhuni before Him. Fed by this offering, the fire in the Dhuni began to burn brighter and Baba shone still brighter. He stood there stark naked and with His burning red eyes shouted - fellows, now have a look and decide finally whether Iam a Moslem or a Hindu. Everybody was trembling with fear and none dared to approach Baba. After some time Bhagoji Shinde, the leper devotee of Baba, went boldly near Him and succeeded in tying a langota (waist-band) round His waist and said - what is all this? Today is the Seemollanghan, i.e., Dasara Holiday.Baba striking the ground with His satka said - is my Seemollanghan (crossing the border).Baba did not cool down till 11-00 p.m. and the people doubted whether the chavadi procession would ever take place that night. After an hour Baba resumed His normal condition and dressing Himself as usual attended the chavadi procession as described before. By this incident Baba gave a suggestion that Dasara was the proper time for Him to cross the border of life, but none understood its meaning. "

“A star has fallen behind the Masjid”said Baba when Tatya Saheb died. This speaks volumes of love and respect that Baba had for this great devotee. Baba lovingly called him “Tatyaba:’ or ‘Mathara’. Tatya Saheb had a habit of writing about his visits to Shirdi to Nana Saheb Chandorkar. From these letters it is very evident of the deep Rinanubandh that existed between them. Tatya Saheb hailed from Jalgaon; he studied in Pune, worked in Pandharpur, retired and spent the last years at Baba’s feet in Shirdi.

He writes on Friday” I went to Dwarakamai. Baba was sitting with Amirbhai. Sai was smoking the ‘chillum’. He said “Hey desi tambako kadu laagthe’[This indigenous tobacco is bitter “] I had recently gotten excellent Egyptian tobacco for my pipe and had thought would Sai accept some of it. So I said I’d fetch some for Him. Sai saw it and praised it. Amirbhai hastily filled the ‘chillum’. Then Sai took a few puffs. He returned the tin saying “It will be useful for Mhatara. The indigenous tobacco is good for us:’

That very day Tatya Saheb “proposed to get some mango juice made for Baba’s naivedya from the delectable mangoes from Bombay ; but only a few were left. I was praying that that there would be mangoes coming for sale. Shortly there after Shyama comes and says “Baba said “Hey bhag Shyama Shambar ambe ghavya aani pushkal raas kadave aani khub khaava” [‘Look here Shyama, a 100 mangoes should be taken and plenty of juice prepared and eaten to full satisfaction’] In a few minutes a man with a basket of mangoes came along I bought them and had plenty of juice. That Sunday I thought our mangoes were over. But wished and hoped that in the straw one stray mango would be found to send with the naivedya. I asked my wife and she said at the bottom were 4 good ones and 4 rotten ones. So I took out 2 of the best ones to be kept in the naivedya dish. Within 2 minutes Appa Kote came and said Baba wanted 2 mangoes. You can imagine how glad I was. I told Appa to bring back one slice from Baba’s left over. ButAppa forgot. Baba cut one mango and ate it. Then He cut slices from the 2nd one; gave some slices to Shyama and others. Taking the last slice He said “Aapan sagale khatho thya Matharala ekh phank nako kare Shyama [We are eating the mangoes! Shouldn’t that old man get at least one slice. Give this one to him] Then Appa remembered my message and TatyaSaheb continued.

On another visit Tatya Saheb took shira for offering, Baba accepted it. A basket of mangos were placed before Him; He said “Mhataraya la aasu dey kahi udhya khaaeyel ‘kahi parva khaaeyel’ [Keep it for Mhatara. He can eat some tomorrow and some the day after] so the basket was put away. When Sai went to the new Chavadi where we were going to stay. Sai said “Stay at the Wada [Sahebs Dharamshala] He actually took us there. There horses had been tied. The kitchen was just being completed and a lot of mud and debris was lying abou.t Sai said “This is a nice snug and protected place; do you like it?” I said yes we would stay here. Then we came out when Sai said “No Don’t stay here, stay in the new Chavadi! Tomorrow if you like you may go to the Wada” We had reached the new Chavadi and Sai had almost reached the Masjid. When He returned and said in a whisper “Its damp in the Wada so stay in the Chavadi” This letter shows how much Baba cared for Tatya Saheb s comfort.

Satsang THE BRICK

THE BRICK

Ever since Baba came to stay in the Dwarakamai, He had a brick with Him. This brick was His constant companion. With great affection and care He looked after it. Though an inanimate object Baba loved it and called it His ‘life long companion’ Baba in His characteristic way referred to it as “her’. Although she was an earthen brick she was well backed and sturdy. She was one foot long, 9”inches wide and 3”inches in depth Baba would support His hand on her while he sat in solitude in the Dwarakamai. When He slept, He used her as a pillow.

Mhalsapathy and Kashiram Shimpy would worship her, after performing “Mangal Snan”. Then carefully place her against the pillar adjacent to the Dhuni Maa. At night they would wrap her in a clean cloth and give her to Baba to use as a pillow. Though Mhalsapathy and Kashiram were constantly with Baba it did not occur to them to ask Baba about the significance of this brick?

Madhu Fasle who used to sweep and clean the Dwarakamai was very careful when handling the brick. Every day he would and her by placing her near Dhuni Maa. Later he would wrap her in a clean cloth; and place her underneath the cupboard. This cupboard had Baba’s clothes beneath which was a cemented parapet, thus the brick would be safely stored away. Baba loved this brick more than His life and never forgot her. Many an hour He spent with her, in Self-absorption, oblivious of His surroundings.

One day when Baba had gone out a young Sevkari while sweeping the Dwarakamai, accidentally dropped her, and she broke into 2 pieces. Frightened of the consequences he placed the two pieces one upon the other, against the Dhuni Maa and left. When Baba returned He asked Mhalsapathy for His brick. Mhalsapathy lifted her and one of the broken pieces fell to the ground.

Seeing this Baba was distraught and started crying like a human being.” It’s not the brick, but My fortune that is broken. She was My constant companion! Now that she has gone I too will leave.” Mhalsapathy tried to comfort Baba by saying “Baba I will bind her together with a gold wire”

“O! Bhagat this brick is more valuable than many gold bricks! Now that My “Sangani” (companion) is broken I cannot remain here.” Thereafter Baba’s health stared detoriating and on the 5th day He took Maha Samadhi. Mention of this incident is made in Sai Satcharita # 44. The Lord Vithal of Pandarpur Stood on a brick while the Parabhrama of Shirdi used a brick for His pillow.

Satsang Santhathanay

Satsang Santhathanay

Santhathanay lived in Mumbai with his family. His younger brother was 4yrs old when he started getting convulsions. The family tried all kinds of medicines and pills but of no avail. Once a friend of the family suggested electro-therapy. They took the child to the doctor who inserted a small rod below his ear. The doctor promised them that the child would be convulsion free in a few days. But no such thing happened. To add to the child’s misery, he started running a high temperature. Again a slew of doctors came and gave medical aid. But the fever continued. After a few days the child took a turn for the worse. He became cold and clammy, his pulse was feeble and he was in a state of shock. Again the doctors were summoned, after giving some treatment they gave up hope. A friend of the family happened to stop by. Seeing the distraught state of the family he suggested, they pray to Baba. The brother at once went and stood in front of Baba’s photograph, and earnestly sent a prayer. About an hour latter, the boy started sweating profusely. He cried out loudly saying, “Baba has come and He is calling me, Pangya do not worry, you will be alright.” Them Santhathanay remembered he had taken his brother a year ago to Shirdi and Baba had called him Pangya and given him a coin. Following this incident the child recovered from the high fever and gradually the convulsive disorder also abated.

Baba gave his tooth to Kashi Bai

The bridegroom was from Niphad so Kashi Bai left her parents home in Shirdi and accompanied her husband at Niphad. She was quite happy in her in-laws home. They were farmers and were economically stable. A year later, her husband died and Kashi Bai was pregnant. A son was born whom she named Madhav. When Madhav was 5-6 months old, she returned to Shirdi and stayed with her parents. Kashibai did all the household chores and looked after Madhav.

Her parents were rather poor. When Madhav was about 2 years old, she decided to work in the fields. Everyday she brought Madhav to Dwarakamai early in the morning and then went to work. At dusk she used to take Madhav home. Thus Madhav was left entirely in Baba’s care when Madhav became 4 years old he started doing chores for Baba and Baba gave him 1 Rupee daily. Kashi Bai however struggled trying to make both ends meet. One day when she came to pick up Madhav, she accosted Baba and said ‘Baba, you give all and sundry huge amounts of money and how come you give my Madhav but 1 Rupee, even though he does your chores, this is not fair”, she said.

Calmly Baba replied, “the money I give to others can stop at any time, but I will never stop giving money to Madhav “Me Tumche Sarkya anathi mahile cha matti aahe” (I am the saviour of destitute women like you)

Kashi Bai could not understand what Baba was saying and she yelled “Oh my house and (matti) died 5 years ago.

Baba flew into a rage hearing this. Seeing his ferocious form Kashi Bai stealthily took Madhav home. Frightened, she did not go to masjid for 2-3 days. Baba however kept asking where Madhav was. Then he sent a messenger to fetch him. Kashi Bai and Madhav came to Dwarkamai and stood meekly before Baba. Baba smiled and beckoned to them to come close.

Then gently pulling out one of his loose tooth, he placed it in a handful of Udi. Then he tired in an old rag and gave it to Kashi Bai saying ‘Keep this safely with you, Allah, Bala Karega.’ (Allah will do good).

Upon returning home, Kashi Bai made a Talisman of the tooth and Udi and tied it around Madhav’s right arm.

With the passage of time Kashi Bai died and Madhav Rao decided to go with his family to Niphad.

How did Babas tooth became enshrined in Shivaji Nagar In Temple in Pune.

Damodar Rasne (Dammu Anna Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan No.25) moved with his family to Pune. They bought a “Chawal” (multi storied building) in Shivaji Nagar. His son, Nana Saheb bought two rooms in that Chawal and converted it into Shrine in 1945. Devotees flocked there to attended Aarthis and festivals from far and near.

Nana Saheb realized that soon a temple would have to be built to accommodate the devotees. He sought the help of another devotee named Nicam. Nicam was working in the Police Department in Khed and upon Nana Sahibs request, he resigned and came to Pune.

A small temple was built in front of Rasne Chawal and photographs are worshipped with due formalities. Nicam put his energy into the building of the temple, the care and maintenance of it and overall administration. One night he had a vivid dream in which Baba told him to go to Niphad and get his tooth from Madhav.

This was easy, as he had met Madhav Rao several times at Shirdi. Simultaneously Madhav Rao dreamt of Baba who said “Give the tooth the person who will come to you tomorrow”.

Nicam went to Madhav Rao’s home in Niphad and found Madhav Rao waiting for him. Madhav Rao was surprised to hear about Nicam’s dream and he happily handed over the Talisman.

In 1950, the Staphan of the photograph and Baba’s tooth and chillum was done by Shri B.V. Narasimha Swamiji. The tooth and chillum are encased in Paduka of Baba in the temple.

Satsang Savatri Bai Raghunath Tendulkar.

Savatri Bai Raghunath Tendulkar.

Savatri Bai lived with her family in Bandra Mumbai, she and her family were devoted to Baba, Every Thursday she made a pilgrimage to Shirdi carrying prasad and a garland made of “Bakul” flowers. In the compound of her Bandra home was the Bakul tree. The tree gave an abundance of flowers for 3 months then flowers started waning. Early in the morning the tree would shed myriads of flowers. Savatri Bai would gather these flowers and offer them to Baba. It was a ritual that she liked to do daily. She had a small photograph of Baba and she performed puja to it. First she made a bed of flowers them placed the photograph upon it. Meticulously she made garlands of various sizes and placed them on the photograph. The rest of the flowers she offered doing “Naam Jap”. Thus mounds of flowers were in front of the photograph. On one of her visits to Shirdi Baba was sitting with a large group of people, when He pointed to her and said “I was not in Shirdi for the last 3 months. I was in Mayie’s home. She smothered Me with “Bakul” flowers. I am intoxicated by their smell “”. Mention is made of her in Sai Satcharita #2 and 29.

Her son Bapu was very hyperactive when he was young. So Savatri Bai brought him to and left him with Baba. On one of her visits she was that the boy was running a high temperature, and was lying to one side groaning and moaning. At once she asked Baba why this was so. Baba calmly replied “ Don’t worry Mayie he will be alright, just give him a little Udi mixed in water.” She did as she was told and to her surprise the boy recovered after some time.

Savitri Bai and her family belonged to the Warkari Sampradaya. Though her family was of a religious bent, Savatri Bai was very progressive for her times. She wrote the Bhajan Mala. In the form of “Padas and Abhangs.” These were about her experiences of Baba’s Leelas and Divinity. She was a prolific writer and wrote articles for the Sai Leela Magazine.

Her son grew up to be a fine young doctor. He had a clinic called Sainath Clinic in Mumbai. The small Photograph that Baba gave Savitri Bai is with her descendants. It has a lot of sentimental value, so much so that the family will not wipe it, as they do not want to wipe off Baba’s touch.

Sri Sai Amrit Vani and Prayan of Sai Satcharitra *

Sri Sai Amrit Vani and Prayan of Sai Satcharitra

18th Oct 2007

Jai Sai Ram
With my last letter I appended three Photos of the Darbar of Maa as Sindoor started oozing from Day 1 of Navratre. Some devotees have not been able to see them. For those devotees I have uploaded these photos in the photo section of yahoogroup `mysaibaba20' under folder "Blessing with Udi/Sindoor/ Honey" at the end i.e. at serial no 42, 43 and 44.

Today, besides Thursday it is the wedding Anniversary of our younger son. There were Leela of Baba already. But this time Holy water from the Charans started oozing from Wednesday as soon as Mrs. Gupta started her pooja. Udi from Photo and Statue in the Mandir were already oozing since Wednesday morning. Perhaps this was the additional blessings for the anniversary and other Leelas as the usual Thursday's.

There were about 90-100 devotees who attended the recitation of Sri Sai Amrit Vani, prayan of Sri Sai Leelamrit and the pooja.

Following devotees participated in absencia in the recitation of Sri Sai Amrit Vani, Pooja, prayers to Baba ( Shirdi) and Prayan of Sri Sai Satcharitra* by reciting Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places on 18th Oct 2007 (The list is sorted as per their email ids, to avoid duplications) . However Mrs. Gupta prayed for all the devotees. In this list only those devotees are included, who themselves recited or read Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places.

This Thursday the 18th Oct 2007. we enjoyed the following Leelas of Baba (of Shirdi).

1. This time Udi started oozing from from Monday from the two photos on the wall and Hindi words `RAM' `SHAM' and `OM', and figure of Trishool were formed with Udi on one photo. Udi also started oozing from the photo and statue in the mandir from Tuesday and also forming the words `RAM' , `SHAM' and `OM'.

2. There was lot of Water from the Charans this Thursday also. Thali was emptied several times. The taste of water was similar to gulab jal and kewara mix. After distribution of Prasad, this water was also given to the devotees and again the Thali was filled with water.

Nine Forms of Bhakti

Nine Forms of Bhakti

Dear Sai Devotees. Jai Sai Ram.

So many times SaiBaba has referred to and spoken about 9 modes of
Bhakti. Given below is a brief description of the same:

In the Srimad-Bhagavata and the Vishnu Purana it is told that the
nine forms of Bhakti are

Sravana (hearing of God's Lilas and stories),
Kirtana (singing of His glories),
Smarana (remembrance of His name and presence),
Padasevana (service of His feet),
Archana (worship of God),
Vandana (prostration to Lord),
Dasya (cultivating the Bhava of a servant with God),
Sakhya (cultivation of the friend-Bhava) and
Atmanivedana (complete surrender of the self).

A devotee can practice any method of Bhakti which suits him best.
Through that he will attain Divine illumination.

1)Sravana ..is hearing of Lord's Lilas. Sravana includes hearing of
God's virtues, glories, sports and stories connected with His divine
Name and Form. The devotee gets absorbed in the hearing of Divine
stories and his mind merges in the thought of divinity; it cannot
think of undivine things. The mind loses, as it were, its charm for
the world. The devotee remembers God only even in dream.
The devotee should sit before a learned teacher who is a great saint
and hear Divine stories. He should hear them with a sincere heart
devoid of the sense of criticism or fault-finding. The devotee
should try his best to live in the ideals preached in the
scriptures.
One cannot attain Sravana-Bhakti without the company of saints or
wise men. Mere reading for oneself is not of much use. Doubts will
crop up. They cannot be solved by oneself easily. An experienced man
is necessary to instruct the devotee in the right path.
King Parikshit attained Liberation through Sravana. He heard the
glories of God from Suka Maharishi. His heart was purified. He
attained the Abode of Lord Vishnu in Vaikuntha. He became liberated
and enjoyed the Supreme Bliss.

2)Kirtana.. is singing of Lord's glories. The devotee is thrilled
with Divine Emotion. He loses himself in the love of God. He gets
horripilation in the body due to extreme love for God. He weeps in
the middle when thinking of the glory of God. His voice becomes
choked, and he flies into a state of Divine Bhava. The devotee is
ever engaged in Japa of the Lord's Name and in describing His
glories to one and all. Wherever he goes he begins to sing and
praise God. He requests all to join his Kirtana. He sings and dances
in ecstasy. He makes others also dance.

3)Smarana..is remembrance of the Lord at all times. This is unbroken
memory of the Name and Form of the Lord. The mind does not think of
any object of the world, but is ever engrossed in thinking of the
glorious Lord alone. The mind meditates on what is heard about the
glories of God and His virtues, Names, etc., and forgets even the
body and contents itself in the remembrance of God, just as Dhruva
or Prahlada did. Even Japa is only remembrance of God and comes
under this category of Bhakti. Remembrance also includes hearing of
stories pertaining to God at all times, talking of God, teaching to
others what pertains to God, meditation on the attributes of God,
etc. Remembrance has no particular time. God is to be remembered at
all times without break, so long as one has got his consciousness
intact.

4)Padasevana is serving the Lord's Feet. Actually this can be done
only by Lakshmi or Parvati. No mortal being has got the fortune to
practice this method of Bhakti, for the Lord is not visible to the
physical eyes. But it is possible to serve the image of God in idols
and better still, taking the whole humanity as God. This is
Padasevana. Padasevana is service of the sick. Padasevana is service
of the whole humanity at large. The whole universe is only Virat-
Swarupa. Service of the world is service of the Lord.
5)Archana.. is worship of the Lord. Worship can be done either
through an image or a picture or even a mental form. The image
should be one appealing to the mind of the worshipper.
Worship can be done either with external materials or merely through
an internal Bhava or strong feeling. The latter one is an advanced
form of worship which only men of purified intellect can do. The
purpose of worship is to please the Lord, to purify the heart
through surrender of the ego and love of God.

6)Vandana.. is prayer and prostration. Humble prostration touching
the earth with the eight limbs of the body (Sashtanga-Namaskar a),
with faith and reverence, before a form of God, or prostration to
all beings knowing them to be the forms of the One God, and getting
absorbed in the Divine Love of the Lord is termed prostration to God
or Vandana.
The ego or Ahamkara is effaced out completely through devout prayer
and prostration to God. Divine grace descends upon the devotee and
man becomes God.

7)Dasya Bhakti ..is the love of God through servant-sentiment. To
serve God and carry out His wishes, realizing His virtues, nature,
mystery and glory, considering oneself as a slave of God, the
Supreme Master, is Dasya Bhakti.
Serving and worshipping the Murtis in temples, sweeping the temple
premises, meditating on God and mentally serving Him like a slave,
serving the saints and the sages, serving the devotees of God,
serving poor and sick people who are forms of God, is also included
in Dasya-Bhakti.
To follow the words of the scriptures, to act according to the
injunctions of the Vedas, considering them to be direct words of
God, is Dasya Bhakti. Association with and service of love-
intoxicated devotees and service of those who have knowledge of God
is Dasya Bhakti. The purpose behind Dasya Bhakti is to be ever with
God in order to offer service to Him and win His Divine Grace and
attain thereby immortality.

8)Sakhya-Bhava. . is the cultivation of the friend-sentiment with
God. The inmates of the family of Nandagopa cultivated this Bhakti.
Arjuna cultivated this kind of Bhakti towards Lord Krishna.
To be always with the Lord, to treat Him as one's own dear relative
or a friend belonging to one's own family, to be in His company at
all times, to love Him as one's own self, is Sakhya-Bhava of Bhakti-
Marga. How do friends, real friends, love in this world ? What an
amount of love they possess between one another ? Such a love is
developed towards God instead of towards man; physical love turned
into spiritual love. There is a transformation of the mundane into
the Eternal.

9)Atma-Nivedana. . is self-surrender. The devotee offers everything
to God, including his body, mind and soul. He keeps nothing for
himself. He loses even his own self. He has no personal and
independent existence. He has given up his self for God. He has
become part and parcel of God. God takes care of him and God treats
him as Himself. Grief and sorrow, pleasure and pain, the devotee
treats as gifts sent by God and does not attach himself to them. He
considers himself as a puppet of God and an instrument in the hands
of God.
This self-surrender is Absolute Love for God exclusively. There is
nothing but God-consciousness in the devotee. Even against his own
wishes, the devotee shall become one with God and lose his
individuality. This is the law of being. The highest truth is
Absoluteness and the soul rises above through different states of
consciousness until it attains Absolute Perfection when it becomes
identical with God. This is the culmination of all aspiration and
love.

The nine modes of Bhakti are the ways in which a devotee attains the
Supreme Ideal of life. A devotee can take up any of these paths and
reach the highest state. The path of Bhakti is the easiest of all
and is not very much against the nature of human inclinations. It
slowly and gradually takes the individual to the Supreme without
frustrating his human instincts. It is not direct assertion of God,
but a progressive.

Satsang Bala Krishna Keshev Vaidya alias Dada Maharaj Paatgaonkar.

Satsang Bala Krishna Keshev Vaidya alias Dada Maharaj Paatgaonkar. (contd....)

Vishnu Ghati was a devotee of Dada Maharaj. He lived in a small village called Mutata , which was in Vijay Durg. Every Thursday he visited Patgaon, after taking darshan of Maharaj, he would invite him to his home. And every time Maharaj would say he would come. But it never came to pass. This went on for a long time. One Thursday Vishnu Ghate after darshan said “Maharaj tell me for sure whether you will visit my home or not? Let me know one way or the other.” Maharaj said “I will surely visit your home in 15 days. In the meantime you go to Shirdi” So Vishnu Ghate made all arrangements and went to take permission from Dada Maharaj. Dada Maharaj while sending him off gave him two packets of peda. Maharaj said “Give the larger packet of Pedas to Baba, and the smaller packet you and your family share. Also do not keep all your money in one pocket. For if it’s stolen you will loose all your money.” Vishnu said “Alright” and left.

He went home to pack his bags; in the excitement he packed the smaller Peda packet in the baggage. Then he distributed the larger packet of Pedas to all the members of his family. It would take him days to reach Shirdi, so he placed his money in the various pockets, as advised by Dada Maharaj. Then he reached Mumbai and forgot what Maharaj had advised, and placed all his money in one pocket.

Upon reaching Shirdi he went to the Dwarakamai for Baba’s darshan. There was a large gathering of devotees around Baba. Nonetheless he managed to go to the Sanctum Sanctorum. After doing Namaskar to Baba he handed the packet of Pedas to Him. Baba took the packet and looked at it from every side, and then in anger He shouted, “Arre You ate up My packet of Pedas which was larger of the two. Now you are trying to palm off this packet on Me?”

A volley of abuses followed this, then Baba said “Rascal do I owe anything to your father? Why do you keep calling Me to your home? Do you think I have nothing else to do? Remember this if you ever call Me again to your house then! If you want you come here! You need to be taught a lesson.” Then Baba took the money that he had in his pocket, which in fact was all the money he had.

Then Baba said, “You don’t know how great My Bala is! He is Shankar. He is Dutta. He is your only refuge. Now go tomorrow.”

Vishnu trembled with fear he wondered how Baba knew that he had asked Dada Maharaj to visit his home! In a flash he realized that that though Dada lived far away, yet Baba and he were in communication. And he, Vishnu was just a puppet whose stings were in Dada’s hands. He also got an insight of Babas Omnipresence.

He fell at Baba’s feet and begged to be forgiven saying “Baba I am your child, have mercy on me. You are my mother, so give me refuge at Your feet”. Hearing his piteous cry Baba’s heart melted and He stroked his back and hugged him. And asked him to sit in the Sabha Mandap, Vishnu got up and sat against the wall of the Sabha Mandap. His stomach started rumbling with hunger, and he had no money. While leaving Mumbai he had put all his money in one pocket; forgetting the advice given by Dada. He was in a fix he knew no one here, and he had no money even to buy a return ticket.

Just then a well-dressed gentleman came and sat next to him and casually conversed with him. Vishnu was surprised when he said that he was going to Mumbai so Vishnu should accompany him. Then he said, “ Now lets go have lunch. Then we will rest and leave for Mumbai in the morning.” He took care of Vishnu’s every need and was a gracious host. The next morning they left for Mumbai. At Mumbai Vishnu was surprised that his gracious host was lost in the crowd. Vishnu stayed in Mumbai for two days then returned home.

The day after he reached home he went to Patgaon. He took darshan of Dada Maharaj and fell at his feet. And said “Maharaj if you wanted to teach me a lesson, why couldn’t you have taught it to me here.” Dada Maharaj replied “Only a goldsmith should pierce the ear” Thus Vishnu realized how much regard Maharaj had for Baba. He remained devoted to both of them.

In 1941 on the 6th of Kartik Month Dada Maharaj took Samadhi.

On one occasion, some of his devotees went to Patgaon for his darshan, while leaving they decide to go to Shirdi. Hearing this Dada Maharaj was filled with joy, giving them a Zari Pheta [Gold embroidered cloth used as a turban} he said “Give this cloth in Baba’s hand, Do Namaskar, but do not say anything.” Accordingly the devotees went to Shirdi took Baba’s darshan, and placed the cloth in Baba’s hand. They stood, aside with folded hands. Upon receiving the cloth Baba danced with joy.

Saying, “My Bala has sent Me a Zari Dhoti. How nice of him.” Then He tied the Pheta on His and showed it to every Bhakta that came for His darshan. Saying “Look! My Bala has sent this lovely Dhoti for Me”

Very interesting book on Baba, please see below link.

Satsang Aare Maja Sava Rupiya!

Satsang Aare Maja Sava Rupiya!

Aare Maja Sava Rupiya!
Between Poona and Satara lies a small town called Sirval. About 400 years ago there was a Satpurush named Naryan Swamiji. His Samadhi is next to the Ram Mandir. His Samadhi is next to the Ram Mandir. Adjacent to his Samadhi, is the Samadhi of another saint Baja Bua.

Legend has it that, if a devotee worshiped it with full faith and said “Baji dole” ([Roughly Translated] “Baji sway”, that Samadhi would sway. Madhav Rao Peshwa heard this; so he went to Shirval. And after worshiping the Samadhi with full faith said “Baji dole”. And lo the Samadhi started swaying. Years later Chang Devotee Maharaj went to meet Dnayshwar Maharaj; riding on a fierce lion. Using a poisonous snake for a whip. At that time Dnayshwar was sitting on a wall. Hearing that Chang Devotee Maharaj had come to meet him he ordered the wall to move forward so he could meet him. Indeed the wall moved forth.

Years later Baba, the Parabhrama manifested in Shiladhi. He lived in a dilapidated Masjid and looked after the welfare of His devotees. One day while sitting in the Masjid He said “Maje Samadhi Bole-le, Maje hard Turbut thu ne Bolethil bar ka Shama”[Roughly Translated] “My Samadhi will speak, so will My bones talk to My devotees from My tomb” So said Baba to Shama

And so it came to pass that many wonder full Leelas were experienced by Baba’s ankita bhaktas. Some of them are given below.

Baba Saheb Tarkhad once attended the Ram Navami celebrations in the year 1932. After having a bath with utter love and devotion he went to Dwarakamai. There he took darshan of Babas Photograph and performed puja. The puja was offering of Camphor, incense sticks, and Dakshina. After doing lotangan and shastang namaskar he applied Udi from Dhuni Maa. After asking Baba for permission to leave, he went to Samadhi Mandir. There he worshiped the Samadhi and gave his Dakshina. As the Ram Navami festival had concluded he decided to leave for Mumbai.

He went in time to catch the 11 a.m. bus that would have 3 seats vacant for pilgrims, to go to Mumbai. But that day each and every bus was crowded to suffocation. So he returned to Dixit Wada. In the Wada his mind was in turmoil. Why has this happened today? Did I make any mistake in my Puja? That night his turmoil increased with every passing hour. And he was quite restless.

The next day he went to Dwarakamai to take darshan of Baba’s Photograph. To his utter surprise he saw Baba’s Narshing Roop (Angry form) in the photograph. Shocked he was speechless. He knew in his heart that he had erred somewhere, But where? Then Baba Saheb went to Samadhi Mandir, and placed his head on Baba’s padukas’ and no sooner had he done this he heard Baba say “Arre Maja Saava Rupiya”! At once he remembered the conversation, he had with his Daughter-in- law before leaving Mumbai.

She had given him Rs 1.25 and asked him to put it in the Samadhi Mandhir Dakshina box. He had tried to dissuade her, by saying “If you put the money in the Dakshina box, it will go to the Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan general fund. But if I give it to the donation counter and get a receipt, your name will be published in their donors list. In the Sai Leela magazine”. To which she had replied, “I do not care for my name to be publicized. I am offering thus money with love and devotion. All I want is that this money be put in the Dakshina box”

Then Baba Saheb humbly put the money in the Dakshina box.

Balaji Pilaji Guruv had some wonderful experiences. He states that one day they were playing cards in the gallery of the Samadhi Mandhir, when they heard the sound of the Veena. They looked around but no one was near. So they went down the music was coming from the mosquito net over the Samadhi. They heard the most beautiful, celestial symphony of the Veena emitting from the Samadhi. The music lasted for about ten minutes.

On another occasion, after Ram Navami, there was water oozing from the Samadhi. They checked the Samadhi, which was intact. The water flowed in a thin stream, over the Samadhi. They caught the water and used it as teerth. This lasted for about a month, and then stopped.

Bala Krishna Keshev Vaidya alias Dada Maharaj Paatgaonkar.

He hailed from a small village, called Paatgaon, near Rajapur (Ratnagiri District). He was a follower of the Nav Nath {Shri Jaalander Sampradaya}. Spiritually advanced, he was famous in that region for his kind loving nature. Many a poor and downtrodden, he helped, and set them on the “Bhakti Marg”. But most of all he was known for exorcising evil sprits. He and Baba were contemporeries, but had never met. Yet they knew, every thing about each other, in fact they had telepathic communication with each other.

There was a householder in Mumbai who was possessed by an evil sprit. This sprit tormented this man and made him very violent. So that he caused bodily harm to his relatives. The family tried various remedies, but of no avail. As the violence increased each day they restrained him, by tying him with a rope. Under such circumstances they brought him to Shirdi.

Seeing him Baba said “Arre he is possessed by a mighty demon. I don’t have a cure for him. Take him to Bala of Patagaon, and tell him I have sent him.” Heeding Baba’s advice the family searched for Patagaon and took him there. It took them a full 15 days to reach there. On the day of their arrival, Dada Maharaj told all his near and dear devotees that Baba was sending a violent mad person to him. The family had never seen Dada before, and as Dada did not wear the Sanyasin's ochre robe they did not recognize him. But the man recognized him and fell at his feet.

Dada kept the man with him for 8 days, and cured him of his demonic sprits. The man left Patagaon hale and hearty.

Satsang Anna Saheb Karindkar

Satsang Anna Saheb Karindkar

Anna Saheb Karindkar

Shirdi Darshan

In 1910 Dev, Anna Saheb and Kavaji Patil visited Shirdi. They went to Dwarakamai and prostrated before Baba and sat down. Dev respectfully gave Baba 1 Re Dakshina. Baba asked him for another Re which he gladly gave. Then Baba put out His hand and asked for another Re. Dev happily gave it. Thus He took 3 Rs from Dev. Simultaneously Anna took out money for Dakshina. Turning to Anna Baba accepted the 1Re coin. Then He asked Anna for another Re, which Anna humbly gave. Thus He took 2Rs from Anna. From Kavaji He took nothing, Baba cursed him, and would not allow him to enter the Sanctum Sanctorum.

On subsequent visits, much to Anna’s discontent Baba did not ask Anna for Dakshina. Though He did ask Dev. Upset with the turn of events, he asked Dev about this; “Why doesn’t Baba ask me for Dakshina? I’m more than willing to give Him Dakshina. Although I accompany you; He asks you, but not me?” Dev replied, “Baba gets other kinds of Seva done through you. Dakshina is not the only Seva one can do for Baba. And who can know why Baba does what He does. He is mysterious, and an enigma. However what He does will never harm us”.
