Satsang The Last Days
The year 1918 commenced as any other and a few months passed. Uddhavesa Bua,
usually visited Sai Baba every fortnight. One day, when he arrived, Baba
told him not to take the trouble of visiting Him thereafter. He said the
same to another Mrs. Chandrabai also in July 1918.
Not long after this, one day Sai Baba gave some boli with boiled foul to
Kasim (the son of Bade Baba) and told him, "Go to Aurangabad and see
Shamsuddin Mia, give him this money, Rs. 2507- let him do Moulu, Kowali and
Nyas." Moulu is the singing of devotional songs Kowalis are devotional songs
about saints, sung to the accompaniment of Tabla; Nyas is feeding poor
people. Baba then told Kasim to go to another fakir, Banne Mia, decorate him
with a garland. Thereafter Kasim was to tell Mia "On the ninth day of ninth
month, Allah Himself takes away the lamp which He had lit. Such is Allah's
mercy." Sai Baba gave him Rs. 250/- and a garland. Kasim pleaded he was a
stranger to Aurangabad and so Baba asked Chote Khan to accompany him.
Both Kasim and Chote Khan started for Aurangabad. When they arrived at
Aurangabad railway station, Fakir Shamsuddin whom Chote Khan knew had come
to the station. He was enquiring "Who are the guests come from Fakir Sai?
Chote Khan and Kasim were surprised and bowed to him. Shamsuddin himself
repeated the message of Sai Baba, word by word! Then he led the three guests
’ home and fed them. With the money sent by Sai Baba, he fed a large number
of people. He also performed Kowali and Moulu. By night all this was
completed.
Next day, Kasim, started in search of Banne Mia. When they reached his
house, they saw him standing still, with one hand raised and the other held
down in a trance. There were a few Arabs. They warned the visitors not to
approach him, when he was in that state as he would be furious with them. So
visitors waited for one hour but Banne Mia showed no sign of regaining
awareness. Then Chote khan took the garland which Baba had given them in his
hand and put it round the fakir's neck. Then Banne Mia lowered his raised
arm, as though he became aware of the arrival of the visitors. So Chote Khan
repeated to him the words of Sai Baba, "Ninth day of the ninth month Allah
Himself takes away the lamp which He had lit." On hearing the words, Banne
Mia gazed at the sky and tears rolled down his eyes.
The party left Aurangabad quite thrilled by the happenings. But they could
not understand what it was all about nor had they the courage to ask Baba
about it.
The Brick Breaks:
It was October; one day Baba left the mosque on His daily rounds. Madhavan
Fasle was sweeping the mosque. He found the brick which was so dear to Baba
on the floor. To prevent the dust falling on the holy brick, the boy took it
up in his hands but suddenly it slipped, fell down and broke into two. When
later Baba saw it, He was depressed and said: "It is not the brick
that is broken; it is My destiny."
to be contd.....

Sri Sai Amrit Vani * 12th April 2007
DEVOTEES MAY FORWARD THIS LETTER TO OTHER
DEVOTEES.
12th April 2007
Jai Sai Ram
The week started with the ubique
Leela of Baba, It was only Sunday and Baba started
giving us the Udi. It was for HIS unique Bhakt. Even
Baba liked to travel along for the Bhakt. On Sunday
Udi Started oozing from all the photos on the wall and
in the mandir, and also from the statue in the mandir,
as soon as Mrs Gupta started her Pooja. When sisters
of Jayant of UK arrived, Mrs Gupta got some intution
and gave the Photo of Baba kept near the main photo in
the mandir for Mr. Jayant . I got surprised by her
this act as she has never done like this. It is all
between her and Baba and Mr Jayant. Baba do blesses
with Udi for some special devotees. Somes years ago,
our son, who is in Atlanta these days, was working in
New Delhi and got transferred to Chennai, His house
hold things were to be loaded on that day and we
received a telephone call that a devotee known to us
was hospitalized with the heart attack. His wife told
that her husband has asked her to tell Mrs Gupta to
bring some Udi for him in the hospital. We were
somewhat reluctant as we were very bussy that day. But
to our surprise we found Baba blessing with Udi from
one photo on the wall. We immediately placed a
newspaper below it and collected the Udi. Then there
was no question of our not going.
Our children also assured us that they will manage and
we left for hospital with the Udi so collected. Mr
Bhatia was discharged from hospital after few days.
On 3rd may 2007 Group recitation
of Sri Sai Amrit Vani will be held at Chandigarh
instead of Sidhartha Extension, New Delhi. Devotees
interested in attending it in person may contact on
Chandigarh phone no. 0172-3244900 after 27th April. No
calls on Delhi Nos please during these days.
As usual the recitaion of Sri Sai
Amrit Vani and Prayan of Sai Satcharitra was very
soothing, very heart touching and peace giving with
all the Leela’s of Baba.
Following devotees participated in
absencia in the recitation of Sri Sai Amrit Vani,
Pooja, prayers and Prayan of Sri Sai Satcharitra by
reciting Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places on 12th
April 2007. The list is sorted as per their email ids.
However Mrs. Gupta prayed for all the devotees. As it
takes a lot of time in the compilation of the list
only those letters are considered, which are received
by the evening of Wednesday. In this list only those
devotees are included, who themselves recited or read
Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places. The names of the
devotees “for prayer”, are prayed for, but not
included in the list. Kindly mention clearly, against
each devotee’s name that he/she will recite or read or
listen to Sri Sai Amrit Vani, or only for prayers.
Please also give the name of the place.
This Thursday the 12th April we enjoyed
the following Leelas.
1. This time Udi started oozing from Sunday from all
the photos on the wall and from the photos and statue
in the mandir. As usual, Hindi words ‘RAM’ ‘SHAM’ and
‘OM’, and figure of Trishool were formed with Udi
on the photos.
2. There was lot of Water from the Charans this week
also. This water was collected in the Thali. The
taste of water was similar to gulab jal and kewara
mix. After Sai Amrit Vani, this water was given to the
needy devotees and again the Thali was filled with
water. This water was taken out of thali 3-4 times
throughout the day. Devotees even bring bottles to
take the water home.
3. Lap of Mrs. Gupta was filled with Udi during the
prayers. Udi was there between the falls of the Sari
and all over the sari.
4. Udi also appeared on many other devotees in their
laps and also in the books of Sri Sai Amrit Vani.
5. On Thursday as soon as Bhog was offered, it was
duly accepted by Baba and after the Sri Sai Amrit Vani
we noticed that the box, which was placed before HIM
was partially eaten and partially remained pieces of
items in the box. Part of Bhog was on the lips of
many photos and statue of Baba. These parts of the
remains in the box were given to the devotees who
offered that item of bhog to Baba.
6. Presence of Baba during the recitation of Sai Amrit
Vani, Prayer and Prayan of Sr Satcharitra was very
strong.
7. All the boxes of Bhog which were kept on the table
were blessed with Udi,
8. The Charnamrit, the water in which Baba took the
bath in the morning was also sweet as if some honey
has been mixed into it.
9. Many photos, statue and other articles of devotee
kept in the mandir room, were blessed with lots of Udi
as soon as they were placed before Baba.

Satsang Power of Guru By Dr. G.R. Vijayakumar
Haridas escaped from the Muslim King and arrived in Puri. Here he met
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and was thrilled at his darshan. Having been brought up
in a Muslim family, Haridas would not enter the temple of Jagannatha. So he
stood at a distance and shed tears of joy at the very thought of Sri
Chaitanya. He fell on the ground and began to rub his face on the mud. Sri
Chaitanya rushed towards him and embraced him. What is more, Chaitanya
exclaimed: - "by touching your holy person, I have become pure".
Haridas settled down at the flower garden in Puri. He spent his days in japa
and kirtans. He would not eat anything until he had repeated Hari's name 3,
00,000 times.
It was the year 1534, the last day of his life had come. Haridas was worried
lest he should pass away without completing his daily japa. Hundreds of
devotees had assembled and Sri Chaitanya himself was present. Haridas
completed his daily routine and lay down. He went on looking at the holy
face of Sri Chaitanya and finally merged in the Eternity. Sri Chaitanya
became grave for some time. He then lifted the holy person of Haridas and
began to dance. The ecstatic dance continued for a long time. Haridas was
laid to rest at the same place where his little hut was situated. Today,
this place is a pilgrim centre in Puri.
Words
A group of devotees at Sri Sai Spiritual Centre were absorbed in a
discussion of Lao Tzu's dictum:
"Those who know do not say those who say do not know." When Sri Radhakrishna
Swamiji entered the hall, they asked him exactly what the words meant.
Swamiji took a rose and asked: "Do you know the fragrance of a rose." All of
them knew. Then he said, "Put it into words." All of them were silent.
Discipline
To a devotee who wanted to know what sort of meditation he practiced each
morning near a Parijatha plant in the compound of Sri Sai Spiritual Centre.
Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji said, "When I look carefully I see the flowers in
full bloom."
Devotee: "Why would one have to look carefully to see the plant?"
Swamiji replied: "Lest one see, not the Parijatha tree, but one's
preconception of it."

Significance of Udhi By Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji
Significance of Udhi
By Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji
Udhi, obtained from Dhuni and lit by Shri Sai Baba in Dwarakamai at Shirdi
during His life time, is not a mere by-product of wood (ash) but a life
saving drug. During His life time, Baba used this udhi for curing various
diseases of His devotees. Baba once sent this udhi along with Aarati song
through BapugirBua to Nana Saheb Chandorkar, a beloved devotee of Baba, when
his daughter Mainatai, about to deliver, was in a critical condition,
suffering from labour pains for three days at Jamner, a place 100 miles from
Shirdi. After taking udhi mixed with water, she had an easy delivery.
Baba applied udhi on the affected portion of a boy (nephew of a qualified
doctor), who was suffering from tubercular bone-abscess for a long time, and
after its constant application, the boy became quite well. Once, a doctor
devotee of Baba at Shirdi suffered from guinea worms and by the application
of udhi, by taking it with water and without taking any other medicine, the
disease was completely cured in ten days.
At another time, the wife of Bapaji (young brother of Shyam) was attacked
with Bubonic plague and high fever at Sawool, a village 3 miles from Shirdi.
Baba sent udhi through Bapaji and his wife was completely cured within
hours. Similarly, an Irani gentleman's daughter suffered from fits and all
medicines were tried, which gave her no relief. Her father obtained udhi
from Baba's devotee, Kaka Saheb Dixit, and gave it to his daughter mixed
with water daily for sometime and she recovered completely afterwards.
An old gentleman of Harda (Madhya Pradesh) was suffering from a stone in his
bladder. He was too old to withstand any surgical operation. His son, on the
advise of some friends, obtained udhi from Inamdar, a devotee of Baba and a
resident of the same town and mixing it with water gave it to his father for
drinking. The stone was dissolved and came out in urine and the old man was
soon relieved of the malady.
The above are only a few cases, where udhi was tried, used and applied, when
Baba was in flesh and blood at Shirdi. Even after Baba's samadhi, udhi is
now being used as a medicine in several diseases and is found out as the
most effective medicine and efficacious cure.
Baba's grace is as much active during the present days as before samadhi,
that udhi's power is far superior and greater and more reliable than
medicines of any system- Allopathy, Ayurveda, Unani, Homoeopathy etc. In a
nutshell, Shri Sai Baba of Shirdi is as much alive today as when he was in
Dwarakamai in flesh and blood.
It is still more surprising and astonishing to note that Narayana Motirarn
Jani of Nasik, a staunch devotee of Baba, tried a pinch of the ashes of
joss-sticks burning in front of Baba's picture, and chanting Baba's name
applied it on the seat of the sting, in case of a scorpion-bite of a person
and the pain disappeared in no time. Jani had to resort to this course, when
he did not have ready stock of Baba's Udhi in his house.
Nana Saheb Chandorkar, another beloved devotee of Baba, when he had no stock
of udhi readily available with him, took some soil from the roadside and
applied it on the fore-head of his wife at Thana railway station; this
miraculously cured the lady. This mysterious and miraculous cure in the
above two cases can also be ascribed to the genuine faith, intense devotion
and earnest prayer of the two devotees.
Baba taught by His udhi that all the visible phenomena in the world are as
transient as the ash. After all, our bodies are composed of five elements
and are subject to decay after death. They will be reduced to ashes after
death. Baba wanted to din into the ears of His devotees, the sense of
discrimination between the Unreal and the Real and non-attachment for the
Unreal by udhi. Apart from this spiritual significance, it had also
conferred health, prosperity, freedom from anxiety and many other worldly
gains before, and even now it is yielding good results to the devotees, in
material and spiritual field. Undoubtedly, it is a Sanjeevani in Kaliyuga,
which was tried by devotees at various places and times both before and
after Baba's samadhi and found it an omnibus cure for all maladies-physical
as well as spiritual.

Satsang Baba's Omniscience
Baba's Omniscience
By Sri Narasimha Swamiji
Baba once assured His devotees - "My eye is ever on those who love Me," and,
"whatever you do, wherever you may be, ever bear this in mind that I am
always aware of everything". What a great solace and a source of confidence
to His devotees, and yet what an effective check on their evil propensities!
Baba more than sufficiently proved, time and again, the literal truth of His
statement.
In December 1915, one Balaram Mankar went to the house of his friend, Mr.
Tarkhad, a devotee of Baba, and told him that he was going to Shirdi and
asked the members whether they had any message for Baba. Mrs. Tarkhad, who
was very much devoted to Baba wanted to send him some gift. She searched the
whole house for some token of her devotion, but found nothing but a piece of
milk-cake (pedha), which was already offered to Sai Baba's picture in the
shrine. Such a thing is generally considered unworthy of being offered a
second time. But not having anything else in her possession, she hoped that
Baba would care more for the spirit of love with which she was sending it
than for the thing sent. What is more, Balaram was in the period of mourning
consequent on the death of his father and such a one is usually considered
impure and unfit to take such a holy gift. But the lady hoped that Baba
would even overlook this hurdle in view of her pure faith in him.
Balaram took the pedha with him to Shirdi, but in his hurry to see Sai Baba,
forgot to take it to Him. He took Baba's darshan with his own offerings.
Baba knew of the story of the pedha but waited for Balaram to recollect it
of his own accord. However, when Balaram visited Baba in the afternoon, he
again forgot to take the pedha with him. Baba threw a hint to him by asking,
"What did you bring for me from Bandra?" "Nothing", said Balaram, for he
remembered nothing of it. Baba repeated His question again a little later,
but got no better reply. At last finding Balaram hopelessly short of memory,
Baba said: "Did not the mother Tarkhad give you some sweetmeat for Me at the
time of your departure?" The young man remembered the whole thing, felt
ashamed of his negligence, begged Baba's pardon, ran to his lodging and
brought the pedha.. Baba eagerly received it and ate it at once. All the
love and devotion of the lady were fully reciprocated by Baba.
There is M.W Pradhan's account of Baba's omniscience in his own words:
"While starting (i.e. on his visit to Shirdi I had provided myself with
three or four gold sovereigns ('guineas', as they were called) and some
currency notes. I got a note changed so that I might be able to give silver
rupees when Baba asks for dakshina. I had twenty rupees in cash and the rest
in notes. There, at the moment of our arrival, Baba was standing at the
Lendi, as though He was waiting for us. So we at once got down and bowed to
Him....I took all the flowers, garlands and fruits to the Masjid to garland
Baba and gave Him all the presents. When I looked quietly into His face and
eyes, I felt confirmed that Baba is really a great saint and said within
myself, ‘Thank God, I have come’...Baba asked me for dakshina. Instead of
giving Him silver coins as I had intended at Kalyan, I gave Him gold. I put
a sovereign in His hand. Baba received it, turned it in His
palm.........thrice and asked “Noolkar, 'What is this? What is its worth?'
And he (i.e. Noolkar) replied, 'It is worth fifteen rupees'. Then Baba
returned the coin to me saying, "I do not want this. Keep it and give me
fifteen rupees'. I then gave Baba fifteen silver rupees. Then Baba took the
fifteen, counted them over and over and professed to find only ten rupees in
what I gave Him and said, 'Here is only Rs. 10/-. Give Me Rs. 5/ - more!' I
meekly accepted Baba's declaration and gladly gave Him the other Rs. 5/- in
my pocket. Baba was obviously aware that the Rs. 20/- in my pocket was
intended for Him and expressly got it paid to Him; and under cover of wrong
calculation was carrying out my intention to place that sum at his feet.
After I gave Him Rs. 20/- on that occasion, He did not ask for more though I
had a lot more in notes with me."

An appeal by INTERNATIONAL SHIRDI SAI CONSCIOUSNESS PRACHAR CENTRE (Regd.)
Sairam,
I am forwading herewith an appeal received from International Shirdi Sai
Consciousness Prachar Centre, Bangalore.
Sairam
With regards

:: OM SAI SRI SAI JAVA JAVA SAI ::
INTERNATIONAL SHIRDI SAI CONSCIOUSNESS PRACHAR CENTRE (Regd.)
No. 106/1,Thunganagar, Herohalli, Magadi Main Road, Vishwaneedam Post,
Bangalore - 560 091. Ph.No.: 91-080-22710699
APPEAL
Dear Sai Bandhus,
Voluntary Contributions/Donations in kind or Cash will be accepted with
great reverence against paid receipt for Charitable activities like daily
'Annadhanam" and on all Sai festivals like Sri Sai Rama Navami, Guru
Poornima & Baba's Mahasamadhi days etc., on a grand scale. We also celebrate
Gokul Astami, Datta Jayanti, Sivaratri, New Year Day in a fitting manner.
Baba's Dictum: If I take one rupee as Dakshina from anybody, I have to
return it tenfold to him. I never take anything gratis. I never ask anyone
indiscriminately. I only ask and take from him whom the Fakir (my Guru)
points out. If any one is indebted formerly to the Fakir, money is received
from him. The donor gives, i.e., sows his seeds, only to reap a rich harvest
in future. Wealth should be the means to work out Dharma. If it is used for
personal enjoyment, it is wasted. Unless you have given it before, you do
not get it now. So the best way to receive is to give. The giving of
Dakshina advances Vairagya (non-attachment) and thereby Bhakti & Jnana. Give
one and receive tenfold" (Shri. Sai Satcharita. Chapter-35)
In Sai Service,
(R. Radhakrishnan Sai Jeevi)
Founder President, Trustees & Members of ISSCPC, Bangalore-91.
N.B;- On Thursday, Sunday and on all Sai Festivals. "Annadam " (Food) is
served to the devotees on a large scale. Especially on Sai Rama Navami, Guru
Poornima, Baba Samadhi days, more than 1000(Min) to 2500 (Max.) devotees
were fed. (Given Baba's Prasadham)
The Power of Prayer
When we recite Vishnu Sahasra Namam or say 'Namo Narayanaya', we are
saluting to the Supreme Lord with reverence and love. Even if the chanting
were mechanical, it does not matter much, as the verbal expression is
endowed with potency. Let us not doubt as to whether God hears our prayers
or not. He does and enters the scene only at the appropriate time that is
best for us.
A person usually looks up for God when he is in rough weather. Unable to
bear the pangs of life, he relies on a power higher than he does. Trials and
tribulations give him wisdom, strength and devotion. When my Guru, Sri
Narasimha Swamiji, was admitted in the General Hospital at Madras for a
fracture of the thigh bone, after an accidental fall in 1953, he had
converted his ward into a miniature Sai Mandir. He tolerated the pain with a
smile!
There is nothing wrong if a prayer starts off for one's own betterment, as
in course of time it covers his family members and later extends to his
fellow beings in society, as he begins to perceive the Lord dwelling in all
beings. Look at the gigantic Banyan tree and the sprawling branches it
spreads, as it grows. Prayers made for others, their happiness and
well-being, goodwill and peace to the world at large, are appreciated and
quickly responded to, by God, in the form of granting the devotee an
expanded awareness.
Surrender to God is the toughest thing to accomplish. If a person says
outwardly that he has surrendered to God's will but in day-to-day life
quarrels with everyone on petty causes, he has not understood what
'surrender' means. Look at others with God's eyes, is the instruction. We
must develop an euonymus vision in all our activities, under all
circumstances. We may fail repeatedly in this arduous task, as the old
'samskaras' would raise their ugly hoods quite often, but let us strive to
rise every time we fail.
Curbing the ego, therefore, forms the basic discipline when we tread on the
path of spirituality. An egotistic man is possessive and cannot bow his head
when he comes across personalities endowed with wisdom. Unless he cultivates
a loving attitude towards existence as a whole and shares a part of what he
has with others, he soon abandons his efforts in a huff.
One need not be a man of letters to pray. In God's vision, there is no low
or high - a prince or pauper is held in the same esteem. Patience and
perseverance of a high order are needed in cultivating this art. Let us
chant His name as Hanuman kept on chanting Rama's name always.

Satsang The Power of Prayer
The Power of Prayer
By Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji
It is becoming more and more complex. From morning till night, it is a rat
race, but the irony of it is, even at the end, we remain rats only! Isn't it
a pathetic situation? Oxen tied to the post revolve round and round
mechanically and the condition of many people is no different - turning
round and round, making no progress!
This is hard truth but not impossible to wriggle out. One way is to be aware
of our actions. This requires us to think and set our goal. This is not
enough and we ought to combine this with another powerful technique. God has
not left us in wilderness. He stands by the stream of karma and lifts us up
from the whirlpools of life. He gave us tools potent enough to match the
ordeal on hand. One such tool is 'Prayer' - a complete and an effective
method. Holding that we are alone in this world, zeroes we are, but endowed
with the understanding that the Lord is with us, we turn into heroes.
Ideally, prayer is a longing for God - a bridge laid to reach the realm of
God, a bond that unites both. In the back drop of our own negativity we need
the shield of God's umbrella to live our lives fearlessly. Thus, in
practice, prayer is, finding a true friend and companion of all times, in
God. Prayer helps us to communicate and plead with God. That is why Sai Baba
said:
"You look to Me; I look to you". He also assured us: "Cast your burden on
Me, I shall surely carry it". When we are at the crossroads of indecision,
sincere prayers point the right road. Then prayer is not a mere practice,
but is as natural as breathing!
Prayer need not be rehearsed speech or a jugglery of words. It need not take
a formal expression either. Silent communion with God is enough, as, in that
state, the mind turns tranquil and serves as a conduit to carry our message
to God. Only we should be sensitive to perceive the answers, which arrive in
a variety of ways.
to be contd....

Satsang Baba Fulfills Devotee's Desire
Baba Fulfills Devotee's Desire
Sri Sainath Maharaj provided an opportunity to me to visit Bhuvaneswar in
February. Sri D. V. L. Narayana Murthy and Maj. E. B. Patro, also a Sai
devotee, joined us in Bhuvaneswar. After visiting Puri, Jagannath and
Konark, we went to Dhenkenal - where a beautiful Baba Temple has come up in
a spacious eight-acre area near Kapilas, about 12 kilo meters from the town.
After participating in the Muhurath of Baba's installation on Thursday
(21SI) in the morning, we wanted to visit the nearby Kapilas shrine on the
hills near the Baba's temple. All the three of us were waiting for the bus.
No bus came for almost one hour. When a bus came and stopped after one hour,
we tried to get into it. But there was no space, not even to keep one leg.
So we came back. I said that if Baba wills, he will take us there." Just as
we entering the main gate, a Baba devotee, Sri Chopra was taking some
Pundits to Kapilas. He offered to take us along with them to the Kapilas
Hills by car. We were surprised at this offer, as it was not even five
minutes since I said 'If Baba wills he would take us there.”
At the Hills, there is a beautiful temple and a Shiva Linga. There along
with the Pundits, we also performed Abhisheka chanting Rudra, Chamaka, Sri
Suktha, Purusha Suktha, Durga Suktha, etc. This was a bonus granted to us by
Sai Mother. We were immensely pleased with Baba's concern and compassion to
his children.
Baba showed His kindness once again. We were returning to Bangalore the same
evening. We went to Cuttack by bus, waiting there at the Railway Waiting
Hall. As there was about half an hour for arrival of the East Coast Express,
our friend, Maj. Patro, went to have his bath. Meanwhile, the train arrived
before the scheduled time. So were informed the same to Maj. Patro. He told
us to proceed and he would join us. We kept his wrist watch, spectacles
which he had handed over to us to look after near his luggage, and we went
to into the bogies. Maj. Patro also joined us after some time with his
luggage. But he forgot to take his spectacles, without which he was
helpless. While the train was about to start, a gentleman who was sitting in
the retiring room noticing the spectacles came and handed over the same to
him. It is a miracle of miracles how he came to know the bogie number and
remembering the person handed over his spectacles. Baba has no limits for
His love and concern for his dear children.

Satsang The Unique Saint of Shirdi
The Unique Saint of Shirdi
By M Krishna Kumar
Each Saint or prophet during his lifetime has manifested some aspect of
Godliness. But hardly has there been one so richly endowed as Sri Sai Baba
in presenting to the world of human consciousness the versatility of God.
Sai Baba is a unique JEWEL on the horizon of spirituality. Sitting on a
rugged stone with an innocent face, eyes full of compassion and deeply
concerned for the sufferings of the humanity, with a torn Kafni on His body.
He is a unique Saint who had descended on this Holy Earth to shoulder the
burdens and sufferings and answer the calls of His innumerable devotees,
irrespective of their caste, creed or religion.
Nobody knew the parentage, birth or place of birth of Sri Sai Baba. Many
queries were put to Him but none got a satisfactory reply or answer. Those
who tried were dumbfounded and were captured by His unique and splendid
personality. Nobody could get or gather any authentic information as to the
caste, creed or religion to which He belonged. It is no wonder that He who
had completely surrendered Himself to the Lord by getting rid of His egotism
and thus became one with Him had nothing to do with the question of caste,
creed or religion. For His food, He begged only from a few houses and shared
it with both human beings and animals without any difference.
Sai Baba preached and practiced Harmony, Love and Universal Brotherhood. He
had descended on this earth to bridge the gap between the various
communities. He preached that God in whatever form worshipped was one and
the same. When it is so, then why should we quarrel among ourselves? He
celebrated the festivals of the Hindus and Muslims alike.
The life and teachings of Sai Baba is wide and deep as the infinite ocean in
which all can dive deep into it and take out precious gems of knowledge and
bhakti. The teachings of Sai Baba give peace and happiness to the people who
are afflicted with sorrows and miseries. If these interesting teachings and
leelas of Sai Baba which are instructive as the Vedic lore when listened to
and meditated upon, the devotees shall get what they long for i.e., bliss
supreme, peace and eternal union with the Brahman.
People who saw Him derived immense benefits (both spiritual and temporal).
He is known for answering to the prayers of His devotees by granting them
boons and satisfying their wishes. He comes to the aid of His sorrowing and
distressed devotees when in dire need and calls Him through pure devotion
and saves them from all impending calamities.
For this Kaliyuga, Sai Baba's Name should be recited by every religious
minded person for salvation from the impending perils which are causing
great concern for our very survival.
Sai Baba always sat near the Dhuni that was lit when He was in flesh and
blood and continues to burn even to this day and shall continue to burn till
such time He wants it. The Dhuni yields the sacred ash - Udi/Vibhuti which
is all 'powerful' due to the grace and omnipresence of Sai Baba.
In our land there are many holy places, which were treaded by Saints during
their lifetime. But all these holy places do not get sanctified even if the
Lord wants it, because only a few such Saints get the land in which they
treaded and sanctified, one such is Shirdi.
Sai Baba is God incarnate for this Kaliyuga and He will protect all His
devotees from the Samadhi. All our relatives and friends will forsake us at
some point of time, especially when calamities knock at our doorstep, but
never will Sai Baba forsake us. Sri Sai Baba tests us as to how much
Shraddha and Saburi have we attained during adverse times by chanting and
reciting His names and singing His glory.
We should remember Sai's commitment and promise to His devotees "Why fear
when I am Here" and lead a life by surrendering ourselves to His Holy Feet
as Sai Baba is Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient.

Satsang Thought for the day
There was once a man who was very rich and very miserly at the same time. The villagers disliked him intensely. One day he said to them, "Either you're jealous of me or you don't understand my love of money-God alone knows. But you dislike me; that much I know. When I die, I won't take anything with me. I will leave it all for others. I will make a will, and I will give everything to charity. Then everyone will be happy."
Even then people mocked and laughed at him. The rich man said to them, "What is the matter with you? Can't you wait a few years to see my money go to charity?"
The villagers didn't believe him. He said, "Do you think I'm immortal? I'll die like everyone else, and then my money will go to charities." He couldn't understand why they didn't believe him.
One day he went for a walk. All of a sudden it started raining heavily, so he took shelter under a tree. Under this tree he saw a pig and a cow. The pig and the cow entered into conversation, and the man overheard what they were saying.
The pig said to the cow, "How is it that everybody appreciates you and nobody appreciates me? When I die, I provide people with bacon, ham and sausage. People can also use my bristles. I give three or four things, whereas you give only one thing: milk. Why do people appreciate you all the time and not me?"
The cow said to the pig, "Look, I give them milk while I'm alive. They see that I am generous with what I have. But you don't give them anything while you're alive. Only after you're dead do you give ham, bacon and so forth. People don't believe in the future; they believe in the present. If you give while you are alive, people will appreciate you. It is quite simple."
From that moment on, the rich man gave all he had to the poor.

Many highly intelligent people are poor thinkers. Many people of average intelligence are skilled thinkers. The power of a car is separate from the way the car is driven.
It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.
To be trusted is a greater compliment than to be loved.
Satsang Baba Blesses a Rebirth
Baba Blesses a Rebirth
This is not a story or fiction. Every Sai devotee experiences such strange
incidents, one way or the other, either mentally, morally or physically in
their day to day walks of life. I am no exception and I came across one such
incident that happened in our family.
On 27th June, 2002 my cousin, Sri Haran's marriage with Sow. Sumathi took
place at Kosapel, Vellore, Tamilnadu. Both of them went to Kodaikanal for
honeymoon. It is a place of tourist interest with greener and scenic beauty.
While they were enjoying the natural beauty a co-tourist, requested Mrs.
Sumathi to click a snap for them and she agreed. Mr. Haran was also watching
the proceedings. Sumathi did not notice the slippery land. While moving
front and back in order to compose the picture, she positioned herself on
the floor to take the snap which was 60 ft. high from the ground level.
Within a few seconds the slippery ground where she was standing started
sinking gradually and half of her body started immersing inside the wet
land. She lost her balance and immediately shouted "HARAN PLEASE SAVE ME”
repeatedly. On hearing the cry Haran without any second took the name of Sai
Baba and prayed for Sumathi's survival and jumped near the same spot where
her body was sinking gradually. Except her hair nothing was visible. He
caught hold of her hair and protected further drowning of the body.
At the moment a strange person who was watching the entire proceedings, whom
I strongly feel none other than Baba rushed to the nearby telephone booth,
requisitioned for the Fire Brigade, equipments such as rope etc and also the
people who were nearby were asked by the same person to assist the victims
in all possible manner. After a big struggle both the victims were taken
out.
Due to head injury Sumathi was unconscious. She was given immediate first
aid by Mr. Haran, by gently beating both sides of her cheeks and sprinkling
water etc. Haran was keeping Baba's Vibhooti always in his pocket and at
that time he applied the same on forehead and a spoon full of water diluted
with vibhooti was also given orally. She regained her senses and was
admitted into a local hospital and later on shifted to Vellore Hospital for
further treatment.
Sumathi and Haran both had operations in the hospital. Mr. Haran's left hand
got fractured. Sumathi had operation on the head due to severe injury. She
had breathing trouble also due to severe shock.
Both of them got recouped after hospitalization, due lo Baba's love and
mercy.
Namasmaran
All Sadhana is for keeping remembrance of God unbroken. Remembrance is
Darshan. The easiest way is to take the name of God constantly. The Name is
the link between the devotee and God. It brings the devotee face to face
with him and enables him to realize oneness with Him. Namasmaran is capable
of granting the universal vision by which one sees everything as God. When
you take the Name, you are taking the Name of the Lord who dwells in your
own heart.
Take the Name with all the faith you arc capable of. Repeat it without a
moment's break, whether you are in the kitchen, or engaged in fetching
water, taking bath, walking in the streets or doing any physical work. If
you do not practice keeping the Name ever on your lips, you cannot avoid
being unhappy.
Know this one and for all.

Satsang Your Offering to Sai Baba By Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji
Your Offering to Sai Baba
By Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji
You would think that you can give back nothing to Baba, who is a Supreme
Giver, only Baba can give to his devotees. But this is not wholly correct.
The action of giving cannot be unilateral. Even God receives first, then
gifts. In the day to day practical life, there is no giving without taking.
It is therefore that the word "give and take policy" has come into vogue.
If Baba asked for nothing, why could he have asked for Dakshina'? Why he
would move from door to door in hot sun in Shirdi to beg for alms. It is
true that Baba was never yearning for Dakshina or alms. He was simply
searching the hearts of the devotees in this process. He was teaching us to
part with or sacrifice a bit of our earning for a higher way of life.
Baba used to cater to the prayers or demands of his devotees. He would
tender his hand of help through some strange miracles to salvage his
devotees in distress or difficulties. This was also not without expectations
from them. He responded to devotees' wishes so that the devotees should turn
to his way of teachings and do what he liked them to do. But all of us
forget this truth and go on asking for new farther from Baba every time,
without taking note of Baba's demand from us. When
Baba fulfils our wishes we are thrilled, we are choked with emotions of
gratitude and we shed tears of joy.
We call Baba as the Kalpa tree. We say that He is our Guru, God. We proclaim
that we are his devotees. But really speaking, we do not deserve to be his
devotees or disciples. We are only searching for a link to spread a hand of
begging before him again and again without remembering his real message and
teachings to us. We forget what Baba wants us to do, nay we purposefully
ignore it! We place a new demand at his feet. We are angry, if he does not
fulfill.
The message of Baba's life: - All know that Baba meets devotees' demands. It
is for this that people from all religions, sects, leads, castes throng
round his samadhi. They come to fulfill their vows. They want to exchange
the grace with offerings. They are blind to Baba's Upadesha. He does not
want us to place demand after demand to him. He wants us to realize his
message. He wants us to spread this message among others. He wants us to act
and practice his teachings. He recognizes the bhakti manifest in practicing
his tenets and teachings.
Shraddha (Faith) and Saburi (Patience): - We are familiar with these phrases
without brooding over their meaning and aerial application to life. The
unflinching allegiance to God and self sacrifice is denoted by Shraddha. It
is not easy to practice this. Because we have to change the centre of
gravity of our life, we must replace selfish thinking by God orientation,
offering everything to his wishes. Saburi teaches us to be fixed in
difficulties and onslaught of fate. We shake, waver each moment. How can we
be devotees without practicing these tenets; Baba wants us to translate this
into action in day to day life.
Baba's Karma, Bhakti and Dhyana: Baba wants us to leave our narrow thoughts,
selfish nature and obstinate ways and to take up a new life of service and
sacrifice. He wants us to come out of the circle of selfishness and "I"
attachment to personal benefits and live a life of benevolence and selfless
service. This is Baba's Karma yoga. He wants us to offer each of our karma
as a flower to God as offering. This is his Bhakthi yoga. That God is
present everywhere is his Dhyana yoga. We have to offer all our thoughts,
desires, passions and acts to God are the expression of this Dhyana yoga.
Baba's ultimate demand: Baba wants us to practice Nama and Dhyana. He wants
us to take his name, forgetting all else (i.e. body consciousness). He wants
us to meditate on his form. This should be perpetual, unending. We have to
merge our mind, intellect, body and ego in his consciousness. This is his
ultimate demand. Do not look at these words with levity. Know the gravity of
the meaning and actual practice. When Baba begged from door to door in
Shirdi for a loaf of bread, he did not actually want food from us. He wanted
the offering of our whole existence.

Satsang Thought for the day
E veryone Can't Be In Your Front Row
Life is a masterpiece theatre, so invite your audience carefully! Not
everyone is holy or healthy enough to have a front row seat in our lives.
There are some people in your life that you need to love from a distance.
It's amazing what you can accomplish when you let go, or minimize your time
with draining, negative, incompatible, not-going-anywhere
relationships/friendships/fellowships!
So observe the relationships you allow in to your theatre. Pay attention
to: Which ones lift and which ones lean? Which ones encourage and which
ones discourage? Which ones are on a path of growth uphill and those on a
backslide going downhill? Which ones have positive resolutions for you and
which ones use your problems against you? Which ones use you for
inspiration and which ones use you as an example in their conversations?
The more you seek growth, peace of mind, love and truth around you, the
easier it will become for you todecide who gets to sit in THE FRONT ROW,
and who should be moved immediately to the balcony of your life. Sometimes,
you might have to have them escorted outside.
You cannot change the people around you, but you can change the people you
are around! (Amen!!) Ask God for wisdom and discernment, and choose wisely
the people who sit in the front row of your life. It's your show, and
you're the star; just remember HE wrote the original script and He's the
original director! You can't changecircumstances and you can't change other
people, but God can surely change you!
Worship of Sai Baba By Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji
Worship of Sai Baba
By Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji
Divine Lire is life in God. It is practical Sadhana for God-Realisation. It
is the Jiving or the Yoga of Synthesis. It is the harmonious development of
the hand, heart and head.
- Swami Sivananda
Guru means the dispeller of darkness of ignorance. Guru may also be defined
as one who imparts information or gives training to another. The object of
seeking a Guru may be temporal or spiritual. Persons who lead highly moral
lives naturally affect their neighborhood and all persons who come in
contact with them rise in their grade of morality and spirituality. Some of
them may get into the position of Gurus for others. In Baba's marga the Guru
provides everything, including food, safety and protection to the sishyas. A
person is likely to make a very good advance alike in temporal and spiritual
matters if he has perfect faith in Guru. Surrender to a loving Guru and love
towards that Guru alone can solve problems. Faith in him is the thing
needed. Without a guru, there is no realisation. When the Bhaktha is fit for
further progress, he will get his guru. It is not the truth that sishyas
always go out to find the guru. The reverse is often true.
The worship of Sai Baba expanded and assumed vast proportions during his
life time. This however did not stop with 1918, but continued to expand
further and further not merely as to the forms and modes of worship and also
in respect of the population and area covered and further extended in its
inwardness and heightened its results. There are over hundred institutions
named after Sai, carrying on Sai Pooja, Sai Bhajan and Sai Prachar. Most of
them have Sai Mandirs.
Though Baba first objected to his worship, his gradual permission of his
worship has been specially stressed that Baba allowed his own worship as a
means for providing temporal and spiritual benefits. Kabir, Guru Nanak and
others tried to establish the bedrock of ideas on which Indian unification
in religion could be accomplished. Baba declared on one occasion that in a
former janma, he was Kabir. Hindus, Muslims, Christians etc. who came to
know about him felt that they were before a higher influence and that they
could all approach and reach God through him. They willingly made him their
Gurudeva or Protector.
Sai allowed the Hindus to adopt their method of worship and treat him either
as an Avatar or, Ishtadeva or a Gurudeva while he allowed the Muslims
approaching him to read their Koran and the shariat at the Mosque treating
him as an Avalia or a saint with remarkable powers. Offerings brought to
Baba were distributed by him to all after Fatia was pronounced in true
Muslim fashion. Though Baba did not himself perform the five namazas every
day, he encouraged the orthodox Muslims to do so at his place. Baba was
displeased when any religious intolerance was exhibited.
To many a Hindus, Baba was identified with various Gods or Avatars. Each man
saw in Baba, sometimes the very form of the deity that he wanted to worship.
He was Sat-Chit-Ananda. Thus he was Shiva to Megha, Ram to South African
doctor and Madrasi Ramadasi, Krishna or Vittal to Krishna Bhakthas, Maruti
to Maruti Bhakthas etc. Baba on the other hand allowed people and even
directed people to go to particular temples.
Today, in our busy and mechanical life, we may not be able to adopt a
particular mode of worship and follow it earnestly everyday. Various
problems, worries and other difficulties in our daily life are to be solved.
Then only we can peacefully sit for some time to think of God and meditate.
So the easiest and best way of worship is to surrender completely and whole
heartedly to our Samartha Sadguru Sainath Maharaj who will lead us in the
correct path and guide us in all walks of life. He will certainly give us
material and spiritual help finally granting us salvation.

Today we had coincidents or the Leela

chapter 31. Chapter 31 had some thin on death and
life. Our Cassette recorder stopped all of a sudden in
between the Sri Sai Amrit Vani, a sudden death.
Immidiately the cassette was taken out and was put on
another streo. Some time was lost in the process and
the Amrit Vani was went on without the cassette. Tape
was forwarded a few seconds and as soon it was started
it was exactly at the place where the devotees were
reciting.
It is not something great or Leela of Baba.

Satsang What Is Baba's Mission
When a great saint lending a perfectly pure life as a Samartha Sadguru and
helping thousands that came to him in the course of about half a century on
their way to God is to be described, his utterances are sure of ethics and
spirituality and it is neither possible nor desirable to make anything like
an attempt to give a fall account of his moral teachings - Baba's
influencing devotees was not and is not mainly by any sort of express
teaching. He was molding his children as he called his devotees, from inside
and he used not merely words but also his gaze, his touch and even his aura
or the will power to remove undesirable tendencies and influences and
replace them by useful and holy ones.
Even today it is his inner working that counts in the improvement and
building up of the devotee. His presence, his gaze, his touch had all their
effect. Each of these had its own peculiar effect as intended by Baba. Baba
in many ways sowed seeds of morals and spirituality in the hearts of those
approaching him, and some-times almost imperceptibly. Whenever he rendered
any worldly help, that help was accompanied by a spiritual seed sowing and
the beneficiary remembered Baba with faith, love and admiration for his
power, guidance and kindness. These thoughts were the seeds from which a
huge tree of faith would grow up later on and Baba who sowed the seeds
mostly, watered and manure his plant and in many a case, beginning with
worldly benefit, the devotee got on to higher and higher spiritual levels.
Baba's teachings are so common that when set out, they may look like copy
book maxims and some may wonder why these should be set out at all, as
everyone knows these moral teachings. What Baba taught was not something new
and strange. It is the old, old truths of morality and spirituality that
have to be rubbed into each soul and lived up to and therefore, Baba would
place truths before the devotee when the appropriate occasion offered
itself. Anyhow, in order that a curious reader wanting to know what sort of
teachings Baba's were, might get satisfaction, we shall give below a few of
his teachings with mere curiosity but really proceed to read, digest, absorb
and live up to them and make them part of himself. For instance about
contentment and surrender, Baba used to say, ‘God is great. He is the
Supreme Master.’ Baba also said occasionally where people thought he was
great, 'How great is God? No one can compare with him. God creates supports
and destroys. His leela {sport} is inscrutable. Let us be content to remain
as he makes us, to submit our wills to his.’ This is the most important
doctrine, a doctrine of submission and surrender. Baba said ‘As God places
us, let us remain. Take what comes. Be contented and cheerful. Never worry.
Not a leaf moves but by His consent and will. We should be honest, upright
and virtuous. We must distinguish right from wrong. We must each attend to
his own duty. But we must not be obsessed by egotism and fancy that we are
the independent causes of action. God is the Actor. We must recognize his
independence and our dependence on Him and see all acts as His. If we do so,
we shall be unattached and free from Karmic bondage.’
Another important thing for peace and happiness is love of all creation.
Baba's moral teachings were conveyed by his own life and activity. Baba
loved all creatures and the underlying motive of every act of his was love
towards, all human beings and all creatures. Baba said 'Love all creatures.
Do not fight with any. Do not retaliate nor scandalize any. When any one
talk of you, that is, against you, passes on unperturbed. His words cannot
pierce into your body. Others' acts will affect them alone and not you. As
for activity Baba was ever active and never idle. And his advice was 'Do not
be idle, work. Utter God's name. Read scriptures. We should not harbor envy,
rivalry or combative disquisition towards others. If others hate us, let us
simply take to 'Nama Japa' and avoid their company.'
Baba said at time 'God has agents everywhere and they have vast powers and I
also have vast powers. But abhimana the idea that I am doing has to be
completely suppressed in order that one may really have spiritual elevation,
peace and happiness.' All these comprises of Baba's teachings according to
observations of our beloved Master Rev. Narasimha Swamiji as above forms
part and parcel of the most essential points in all religions. Thus spoke
Sri Narasimha Swamiji through his book Life of Sri Sai Baba.
May all be blessed by a careful reading of this article with all faith and
be blessed by Baba and Swamiji to attain the Highest - is my earnest prayer.

Satsang What Is Baba's Mission
What Is Baba's Mission
By H. H. Sri Saipadananda Radhakrishna Swamiji
Mysticism denotes that attitude of mind which involves a direct Immediate,
intuitive apprehension of God. It signifies the highest attitude of which
man is capable, namely, a beatific contemplation of God 'and its
dissemination in the society and the world.
- Gurudev Ranade
All roads lead to Rome. All paths margas lead to Sri Baba, Sri Krishna, and
Sri Rama are all divinely gifted or perfected souls and expressions of
divinity transforming every one who comes into contact with their divine
personality - especially those who are drawn through Rinanubandha by their
divinity and that are the purpose or mission of their lives. So, Baba has
not one mission, but a hundred missions. Protecting the good (virtuous)
punishing or reforming the wicked, establishing Dharma (virtue) or its hold
on the people, are the functions of divine personalities and Baba was
performing all these functions. A mission may come in. as a part of these
functions.
Saints expound all the margas and find which marga or combination of which
margas would suit each approaching devotee and give the same to him. Thus
Baba adopted every marga but in particular one may not that predominance in
his methods was neither for ritual nor for Vedic study, but for living in
consonance with the supreme manifestation of Divinity in Him. His mission is
to help every one; that means, of course, every one capable of benefiting —
not persons who come in an unreceptive mood. Baba quoted occasionally his
master's or Guru's behest that "as he has received liberally from his
master, he must similarly distribute liberally amongst those that approached
him." Baba was distributing not merely wealth, worldly relief and comforts
but also spiritual blessings to all and sundry those were capable of
receiving those benefits.
To us Sai devotees, Baba is not only a teacher but a controller from within
the ever watching Guardian Angel. He regulated the lives of those who wholly
surrendered to him. While doing service incidentally the work of conveying
moral teachings was carried on by Baba and he gave occasional talk about
morality.
‘Behave properly,’ 'Behave with integrity and probity. Hurting others is
sinful was the advice given by Baba to Shama and Rao Sahib Galwanker which
will suit us too. Baba expected people to act us to this teaching.

Satsang Baba's Unique Blessings By K. N. Narayana Swamy
Baba's Unique Blessings
By K. N. Narayana Swamy
It was 26th January 1989, the holy Thursday. It was the happy occasion of
the Silver Jubilee of myself and my wife Chi. Sow. Jaya Lakshmi’s wedding.
Needless to say that we worshipped Sai Baba and his apostle H. H.
Radhakrishna Swamiji to our heart's content with pooja, bhajan, arathi etc.
During the morning pooja, while I was listening to Sai bhajans with immense
devotion, believe it or not, a poor old man (I consider it a sin to call
anybody a beggar) very much resembling Sai Baba, just appeared at our gate
calling out 'BABA, BABA'. Instantly I got up and took some coins from the
box and a banana and gave alms to the poor old man. He just looked at me
with all grace and quietly walked away without stopping anywhere else. Is it
not the style of Sai Baba appearing before His devotees in different
manifestations and shower His blessings? That moment was so great to enjoy
the blessing experience of Sai Maharaj. It is beyond words.
Of course, this poor old man is seen in our colony occasionally and I also
give him small coins whenever he comes across me, but, how in the world he
has come to our gate just on the day and at the time of Sai-pooja and after
receiving the offerings with graceful look left without sloping anywhere
else? That is the wonder of wonders and we are unable to understand and we
can only say: 'it is yet another Sai-leela'.
I understand from Sai bandhus that Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji used to refer to
this not as miracle but something always usual with Sai Baba. Though I am
one of the post-Samadhi devotees of Sri Swamiji, he is to me none other than
Sai Baba. Blessed indeed are the devotees of Bangalore who had the privilege
of being at the feet of this great Master.

Satsang The Lord of all Lords By R. Radhakrishnan
The Lord of all Lords
By R. Radhakrishnan
"It is nothing but to invite pain and suffering, if you make your defective
intellect your guide for your life in the world. Victory ties in giving" the
reins of your mind to Sai Baba, and then, be free from any danger
whatsoever. He will surely take your life safely away with success from the
battlefield of this world. He is a renowned expert in driving (he chariots
of life.)
- Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji
I participated in the Guru Poornima celebrations at Sai Spiritual Centre,
Bangalore on the 7th July 1990. We had 'Satsang' with several Guru-bandhus
like Sri Bhaskara Rao, Sri Seshadri and others. Sai Baba prompted me to
propose an additional one-hour program of daily chanting of 'Om Sai Sri Sai
Jaya Jaya Sai' from 5 pm to 6 pm. everyone agreed and this divine program
commenced from the 8th July 1990 onwards.
I stay in 'Doopanahally' area far away from Thyagarajanagar. However Sai
Baba enabled me to daily travel in a city bus from Doopanahally and am
present at 5 pm for the 'Nama Japam'. There was no problem for three days on
8th, 9th and 10th July 1990. However on the 11th July '90, I left my house
at 3-30 pm and came to the bus stop. Someone told me that the direct bus
from Doopanahally to NR Colony is cancelled and advised me to try
alternative bus service to reach Sai Mandir. Accordingly I got into a bus
and got down at down at Richmond Circle bus stop by about 4-10 pm. A bus
from Shivaji Nagar side came and was fully crowded. In my enthusiasm to be
on time at the Mandir, I tried to board the crowded bus. 'No -1, could not'
and I was pushed aside. I fell down on the ground and by Sai-grace nothing
happened.
As I got up, a school boy came to me and handed over to me a two-rupee note
saying that it fell down from my pocket when I was pushed aside. I was
astonished as I had taken a ten-rupee note from home and after purchasing a
ticket for one-rupee the balance amount of nine rupees was intact in my
purse. Then I remembered Baba's offering of two-pice 'Dakshina' to his Guru.
In the form of the school-boy Sai Baba was warning me of 'faith' and
'patience' and not to do things in haste. The boy shoved the two-rupee note
in my hand and mysteriously vanished in the crowd at the bus stop.
True to the warning given by Sai Baba, I got into another bus which was
quite empty and traveled comfortably to the Mandir. My eyes were full of
tears of gratitude to Sai Maharaj for saving me from a calamity.

Satsang Sri Sai Amrit Vani
Satsang Sri Sai Amrit Vani
DEVOTEES MAY FORWARD THIS LETTER TO OTHER DEVOTEES.
22th March 2007
Jai Sai Ram
Today is the fourth Day of Navratra and
Sindoor continued to ooz from the photos of Maa Durga,
Maa Vaishnow, Maa Santoshi and Maa Parvati along with
Shiv ji. Udi was oozing from the photos and Statue
of Baba. I have already sent the photos of Darbar of
Maa from different angles on 19th march to different
groups. Mrs Gupta placed an extra paper below the
photo of Maa to collect the Sindoor to be used today
for appling on the forehead of ladies. (23th March, In
the night Mrs Gupta cleaned all the photos of Baba and
removed all the Udi and the papers leaving the Sindoor
intact, as it will be cleaned at the end of Navratre,
Udi again started oozing from the early morning from
the photos of Baba. Jai Sai Ram)
Being the only Thursday during the
Navratre, there was large gathering of devotees who,
attended the recitation of Sri Sai Amrit Vani. Inspite
of the large gathering, pooja was very smooth, very
soothing and very peaceful without any disturbance.
However due to some new comers there was little
disturbance of coming and going, in the adjacent room.
Following devotees participated in
absencia in the recitation of Sri Sai Amrit Vani by
reciting Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places on 22th
march 2007. The list is sorted as per their email ids.
However Mrs. Gupta prayed for all the devotees. In
this list only those devotees are included, who
themselves recited or read Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their
places. The names of the devotees “for prayer”, are
prayed for, but not included in the list. Kindly
mention clearly, against each devotee’s name that
he/she will recite or read or listen to Sri Sai Amrit
Vani, or only for prayers. Please also give the name
of the place.
This Thursday the 22th March we enjoyed
the following Leelas.
1. As usual Udi started appearing and oozing from the
two photos on the wall from Monday, Hindi words ‘RAM’
‘SHAM’ and ‘OM’, and figure of Trishool were formed
with Udi on one photo. On Tuesday Udi started oozing
from the main photo in the mandir as well as from the
Statue. Hindi words ‘RAM’ ‘SHAM’ and ‘OM’ along with
other figures were also formed on the photo in the
mandir.
2. There was lot of Water from the Charans this week
also. This water was collected in the Thali. The
taste of water was similar to gulab jal and kewara
mix. After Sai Amrit Vani, this water was given to the
needy devotees and again the Thali was filled with
water. This water was taken out of thali 3-4 times
throughout the day and was given to devotees till
evening. Devotees even bring bottles to take the water
home.
6. The peculier thing of today was that the whole
piece of Milk Cake was missing among the remains in
the box. Baba has taken the whole milk cake piece.
Last week in Ch. 29 of Sai Satcharitra it was read
that how Baba took only ‘Bhel Papri’ from the food
brought by devotee. It is Shradha, by which one
offers something to Baba.
7. Presence of Baba during the recitation of Sai Amrit
Vani, Prayer and Prayan of Sr Satcharitra was very
strong.
8. All the boxes of Bhog which were kept on the table
were blessed with Udi,
9. The Charnamrit, the water in which Baba took the
bath in the morning was also sweet as if some honey
has been mixed into it. Many photos, statue and other
articles of devotee kept in the mandir room, were
blessed with lots of Udi as soon as they were placed
before Baba.
10. A devotee brought the trophy to show it to Mrs
Gupta, which her daughter got for her academic
achivement. This trophy was put at the table, quite
far off from the Baba. This trophy was also blessed
with Udi on it. It so happens that Baba some times
even blesses the food kept in the kitchen. It is all
HIS Leelas.
Jai Sai Ram
Sri Sai Amrit Vani started at
11:04 AM. Noon Aartee started at 12:00 Hrs. followed
by brief Meditation and the prayer, Prayan of Chapter
30 from Sai Satcharitra. Mrs. Gupta offered prayers
and thanks to Baba. Finally distribution of Prasad,
Udi and the water from the Charans.

The Dual Power of the Tongue
Each sense organ given to human beings has one particular use, but the tongue is endowed with dual power. It has both the power of speech and the power of taste. In the Gita, the Lord cautions you to be very careful in using your tongue. He praises the devotee who has attained complete control over the tongue, for such a one will soon develop a pure and steady heart and feel the constant presence of the Lord. To gain such control, devotees have been practicing a number of special disciplines, such as observing silence, controlling their diet, or maintaining a complete fast.
Fasting promotes health for the physical body. In the mental realm it gives joy and bliss. Unlimited and unregulated food is very harmful for devotees. Indulging indiscriminately in unwholesome foods is likely to lead the devotee into the torpidity of inertia. To think that you can go on wantonly indulging yourself in food, while at the same time trying to please God and enjoy the nearness of God, is extremely foolish. These two, indulging in food and gaining the nearness of God, are not compatible. Therefore, right from the beginning you must make a determined effort to keep the tongue under control. Once you gain mastery over the tongue, the other sense organs will automatically come under control.

Satsang His Mysterious Ways
His Mysterious Ways
By R. Subbulakshmi
In December 1984, I had a problem in my uterus and underwent a major surgery
in abdomen in January 1985. After the operation, I grew weak as I am past
fifty. I needed help for everything, even to turn over or sit up in bed. It
was very discouraging. One day feeling utterly helpless. I complained to my
Sai-half, Sri R. Radhakrishnan: "Why do I keep on living? What good am I? I
am just a nuisance. I can't do anything for anyone".
He was preparing himself to go to Shirdi for participating in the Sai Leela
meet scheduled for 27th and 28th Jan, 1985. He answered with a smile: "Oh" I
don't know about it. I think there is something you can do. You can pray to
Lord Sainath for the sake of others". What a good medicine that was. There,
flat on my back, I began to pray for my fellow-patients, for the doctors and
nurses, for Sai-bandhus, for any one who came to mind. And as I did, I found
I was moping less, and focusing more on the world outside. Without knowing
it, I was getting out of myself, out into the world -if only in spirit. And
eventually I was there physically too.
In fact, my health improved, so much, so that a year later, I could
accompany my husband to Shirdi in February 1986 for the annual Gathering of
Sai Leela Contributors and later and to Vijayawada to participate in the
Akhanda Sai-Nama Saptaham. Today I am living at home, and I am able to take
care of myself, but I am still following that excellent prescription for
feeling useful.

"SHIRDI DIARY' DADASAHEB KHAPARDE
Third visit in December 1915: Dadasaheb Khaparde went to Thane to meet his
friend Baba Gupte and from there reached Shirdi via Manmad on 29th December.
Mrs.Khaparde and other members of his family had also arrived directly in
Shirdi. Dadasaheb obtained permission on 31.12.1915 to return to Amraoti. So
he left but Mrs. Khaparde and others remained behind. Khaparde was very
happy to have visited Shirdi as will be seen from some excerpts reproduced
in the biography in Marathi which are rendered here into English,
Entry of 29th December: "I went to Shirdi from Kopargaon by tonga and
reached there at 9 a.m. There were many dangers on the way. My wife and the
children were already in Shirdi. I went to the Musjid and saluted Sayin
Baba. His health has greatly deteriorated. I held the Morchel during the
puja. The day passes off here easily, Gopalrao alias Bapusaheb Buti is here.
Kakasaheb Dixit, Balasaheb Bhate and all other old friends too are here. I
am extremely happy."
Entry of 30 December: "Today I performed puja and offered Naivedya. About
100 persons were present for the prasad. The meal was excellent and was over
somewhat late around 4 p.m. The construction work of Buti's wada is
progressing well. There was chavdi procession to-day and I stood with the
Morchel in my hand."
Entry of 31st December
After meals I went with Madhavrao Deshpande and obtained permission to
depart without any difficulty. My wife, Manutai, Uma and the children will
be staying back.
Fourth visit on 19th May, 1917
This brief visit of half a day to Shirdi by Dadasaheb in the company of
Lokamanya Tilak was designed with a view to taking Lokamanya to Sayin Baba
and obtain his blessings, for his own leader. The account which appeared in
Shri Sai Leela is nearly complete.
Fifth visit in March 1918
No dates of this unscheduled visit of Dadasaheb to Shirdi are indicated in
the biography in Marathi. However, this visit of an unspecified number of
days was with a purpose. Dadasaheb was to proceed to England with the
Congress deputation for pressing the demand for Home Rule and had come to
Delhi in this connection. Before leaving Delhi, he called on Sir Sankaran
Nair, who had presided over the annual session of the Congress held at
Amraoti in 1897 when Dadasaheb Khaparde was the Chairman of the Reception
committee. In or about 1918 Sir Sankaran Nair had joined the Executive
Council of the Viceroy of India and he had some doubts about the prudence of
the step he had taken. So he requested Khaparde to seek the opinion and
guidance of SayinMaharaj about his own action as will be seen from the
following undated excerpt given in the biography.
"Saw Shankaran Nair.He was very glad to see me and sat talking for a long
time. He asked me to put the following questions to Sayin Maharaj of Shirdi
on his behalf. Whether it would be well for him to continue in service.
Whether he is going spiritually wrong. If so,would Sayin Maharaj put him
right. I promised to put the questions and write to him what Sayin Maharaj
says."
The biographer of Dadasaheb Khaparde adds that Dadasaheb returned to
Amraoti, via Shirdi after Sayin Baba's darshan and blessings. The biographer
further comments that there is no mention in the diary of what transpired in
the talk with Sayin Baba about Sir Sankaran Nair's* queries. Possibly ii was
decided to maintain secrecy about this and Dadsaheb must have honoured the
commit-meni. This is an example of a deliberate omission of secrets from the
diary. Now that the original diaries of Dadasaheb Khaparde are with the
National Archives, any further research into these diaries must await a
search and inspection of these diaries.
Mr. K.P.S. Menon. I.C.S. the son-in-low of Sir Sankaran Nair in the
biography of his father-in-law published by Publications Division of
Government of India in November 1967 states that Sir Sankaran was appointed
Member of the Viceroy's Executive Council in the middle of 1915 (p. 55) bm
resigned in protest againsfthe massacre of Jallianwala Baug in 1919 (pp.
104-105). Sir Sankaran was a confirmed believer in Yoga (p. 133) and his
mind turned more and more to religion (p. 137). He passed away on
22-4-1934-after a car accident in which he sustained a head injury (p. 138).

15th March 2007
Jai Sai Ram
Group recitation and prayer is becoming
more and more strong as more and more devotees are
joining the group for recitation of Sri Sai Amrit
Vani, Prayer and Prayan of Sri Satcharitra. You can
still make it more powerful by introducing the group
prayer to other devotees. As union is strength, so the
group is more strong and strong will be the prayers if
we do it in the group. I also find many old members
reciting the Sri Sai Amrit Vani even daily, but not
giving their names to be included in the list of
devotees who recited Sri Sai Amrit Vani on Thursdays.
I would also request them to send their names also.
This Thursday the pooja was very smooth,
