Satsang Chapter 42 :Sri_Sai_Sat_Charitra_Concise(Version)

Om Shree Ganeshaya Namah
Om Sai Ram
Chapter 42:::
Baba’s Mahasamadhi

On September 26, 1918 Baba developed slight fever. He stopped

his food. On October 15, 1918, around 2:15 pm, He shed His mortal
coils. It was a Vijaya Dasami day. But the auspicious ekadasi thithi
had come. Eactly two years ago on a Vijaya Dasami day Baba
struck His satka on the floor and shouted ‘this is my seemalogan
(crossing the frontiers) day’ but no one could know that He was
meaning that on a Vijaya Dasami day He had planned to shed His
body. Shortly after this, Ramachandra Patil fell sick dangerously
and in his dream one midnight Baba appeared and told his thus:
‘Your death warrant has been with drawn. But the worry is about
Tatya. He will die on Vijaya Dasami. Do not tell him. He would be
frightened to death.’ Ramachandra Patil told this immediately to
Bala Shimpi only. The Ashwin month of 1918 arrived and Tatya
fell sick. Patil and Shimpi trembled as Baba’s words were never
went vain.
On Vijaya Dasami Tatya’s pulse ebbed. But there was a dramatic
turn. Baba suddenly cast off His body and Tatya survived. Was
There an exchange of lives or Baba foretold His death day but

deliberately mentioned Tatya’s name? He alone knew. Next day
(16th October) Baba appeared in the dream of Das Ganu at
Pandharpur and told him that ‘Masjid has tumbled. Oil mongers
and merchants troubled Me. Come and cover Me with flowers.’
Realising the meaning, Gan came rushing, covered Baba with
flowers and performed Kirtan. Just before shedding His body,
Baba donated nine rupees to Lakshmi Bai Shinde and told Kaka,
Buty and others to go and take their lunch. Then He said thus:
“This masjid is not comfortable to Me. Take me to Buty’s stone
mansion. I will be all right there. Brahmins will worship me.” So
saying He laid off His mortal frame on the lap of Bayaji. Nimonkar
poured a little water in His mouth but it came out. Nimonkar cried
‘Oh! Deva.’ But life had already fled from Baba’s frame. Buty and
the rest came rushing discarding their meals.

Satsang Sri Sai Amrit Vani

Sri Sai Amrit Vani
26th Oct 2006

Jai Sai Ram
Last week was full of festivals and so different
Leelas of Baba. On Saturday it was Dewali,
On Sunday it was Aan Koot, Every year Mrs
Gupta prepare a special vegetable of all the
vegetables available in the market. This time also,
though weak in health, she took all the pains in the
preparation of this vegetable, keeping in mind all the
time that Baba will accept her preparation as last
year. She prepared this vegetable, fruit raita, rice
and poories. As soon as she offered the plate. Baba
accepted it, The topmost poori was eaten partially.
More than one fourth of poori was missing. Portions of
poori was on the lips of Baba in many photos and
Statue. A big size piece along with vegetable was in
the Bhiksha patra in one photos of Baba. I expressed
my desire to Mrs Gupta to take a snap of plate and
the bhiksha patra, but she did not liked the idea
saying how you feel when somebody takes your photo
while eating in the party. I fully agreed with her and
abandoned the idea of taking the photo of Baba eating.
Later on we had many visitor for the Lunch.

On Tuesday it was Eid . The words ‘Subh
Laabh’ and ‘Lakshmi’ on two different photo vanished
itself and one Chand Sitara had appeared in their
places. Jai Sai Ram.

Thursday the 26th Oct was again a normal Thursday
in its sense with Usual Leelas of Baba which we
are able to see almost every Thursday. There was
nothing new but still I am repeating.

Following devotees, participated in
absencia in the recitation of Sri Sai Amrit Vani by
reciting Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places. The list
is sorted as per their email id’s. However Mrs. Gupta
prayed for all the devotees. We include only those
devotees in the list, who themselves recite or read
Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places. The names of the
devotees “for prayer”, are prayed for, but not
included in the list. Kindly mention clearly, against
each devotee’s name that he/she will recite or read or
listen to Sri Sai Amrit Vani, or only for prayers, If
no mention of it is made then it will be presumed
that the names are only for prayer and will not be
included in the list. Please also give the name of
the place.

This Thursday the 26th Oct , we were able
to see the following Leelas of Baba.

1. Udi continue to ooz from the photos and the Statue

were. Chand Sitara Swastic and OM on one photo.

Chand Sitara, Ram and Shyam on another photo.
2. There was a lot of Water from the Charans this week
also. This water was collected in the Thali. The
taste of water was similar to gulab jal and
Kewara-Kesar. After Sai Amrit Vani, this water was
given to the devotees. Many devotees brought small
bottles with them and took this holy water home also.
Water was taken out many times and every time thali
was again filled up.
3. Lap of Mrs. Gupta was filled with lots of Udi
during the prayers. Udi also appeared other devotees
also. There was clear OM written the back of one
devotee.
4. The presence of Baba during the Sai Amrit Vani was
very strong and many devotees felt it during the
recitation of Sai Amrit Vani in different ways.
5. Sri Sai Amrit Vani was very soothing that many
devotees felt very relaxed.
6. On Thursday as soon as Bhog was offered, it was
duly accepted by Baba and after the Sri Sai Amrit
Vani we noticed that the box, which was placed
before HIM was with partly eaten pieces and only
partly remained pieces and some engraved pieces of
items were there in the box, Baba like Samosa very
much. Samosa and Kachore were eaten in big portion
ware as figures were formed on the sweets. Part of
Bhog was on the lips of many photos and statue of
Baba. Part pieces of the remains in the box were
given to the devotees who offered that item of bhog to
Baba.
7. All the boxes of Bhog which were kept on the table
were blessed with lots of Udi . Udi was collected on
the papers by the devotees.
8. The Charnamrit, the water in which Baba took the
bath in the morning was also sweet as if some honey
has been mixed into it.

Satsang Thought for the day

A frail old man after the death of his wife, went to live with his
son, daughter-in- law, and four-year grandson. The old man's
hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step
faltered. The family ate together at the table.....but the elderly
grandfather' s shaky hands and failing sight made eating difficult.
The crumbs went everywhere and the peas rolled off his spoon
onto the floor. When he grasped the glass, the liquid spilled on
his clothes as well as the tablecloth.
The son and daughter-in- law became very irritated with the mess.

'We must do something about Grandfather, ' said the son. 'I've had
enough of his spilled milk, noise eating, and food on the floor'. So
the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There,
Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed their
dinners together. Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his
food was served in a wooden bowl. When the family glanced in
Grandfather' s direction, sometimes he had a tear in his eye as
he sat alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were
sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food. The
four-year-old watched it all in silence. One evening before supper,
the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor.
He asked the child sweetly, 'What are you making?' Just as
sweetly, the boy responded, 'Oh, I am making a little bowl for
you and Mama to eat your food in when you get old.'
The four year old smiled and went back to work. The words so

struck the parents that they were speechless. Then tears started
to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both
realised their mistake and knew what must be done. They went
to the Grandfather and begged him for forgiveness. Then in the
evening the husband took his hand and gently & lovingly led him
back to the family table.
For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family.

And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care
any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth
soiled.
I have learned : I've learned, that, regardless of our relationship

with our parents, we will miss them terribly when they're gone
from our lives.
I've learned that life sometimes does give us a second chance.
I've learned that if we try to pursue happiness... ....it eludes us.

But, if we focus the needs of others and doing the very best we
can......happiness will find us.
I've learned that children's eyes observe more than there ears

ever hear.... and the example we set for them determines their
actions.
I've learned that make a 'living' is not the same thing as making

a 'life'.
I've learned that every day, we should reach out and 'touch'

someone in some way....... to show we care.
I've learned that people will forget what we said ......they may

even forget what we did......but they will never forget how we
made them feel.
I've learned that life is about people and making a positive

difference.
I've learned that we should take care of ourselves and those you

love........ ....Today and Everyday!
I've learned I still have a lot to learn!

May the Merciful Sri Sai Baba always shower His grace on us
and our families and remove our problems and anxieties by
giving us all - strength , goodluck, success and happiness
with peace of mind.

FEATURE OF THE WEEK: Sai Baba and the Astrologer
Shri Rao Bahadur M.W. Pradhan in his work "Shri Sai Baba
of Shirdi: A Glimpse of Indian Spirituality" depicts the
following interesting incident involving Sadguru Sainath's
all-pervadingness:

Once, an astrologer who had heard about Sai Baba as a
saint of a very high order, came to Shirdi with the avowed
objective of placing a book on astrology into the hands of
Sai Baba and receiving the same as prasad from Him.
The astrologer sincerely believed that such a prasad from
Sai Baba (consecration by Sai Baba) would make him very
proficient astrologer and thus enable him to make a fortune.
But Sai Baba, when implored to give the book to the
astrologer, gave it instead to Bapusaheb Butti (the well-known
multi-millionaire who is credited with the construction of Butti
wada in Shirdi) who was sitting close by. Bapusaheb Butti,
who was a wealthy man and did not have worldly wish took
the book thrusted onto his hands by Sai Baba. The astrologer
was disappointed. Bapusaheb, who never cared to read
anything, skipped over the book now and then for a short time
only because Sai Baba gave the book to him. Gradually he
began to take interest in the book and the subject of
astrology. After a few years, Bapusaheb Butti became
proficient in astrology and he began to help Sai devotees in
their needs and was able to predict things with precision! He
did all of this without any remuneration!

The above incident, Sai Baba wanted to show that, He knew
that it was not the destiny of the Astrologer to be proficient in
Astrology as he had aimed at; that He wanted to show what
any person who was the recipient of such a Prasad would be
capable of (in this case Shri Bapusaheb Butti); and that Sai
Baba wanted to teach His devotees that a person's proficiency
in any art or science is used best when given gratis to
humanity than for any love of lucre.

CONTRIBUTED ARTICLE: Disguise
Once upon a time there was a king. He was a very noble
hearted and generous person. He wished well for every one in
his kingdom. One-day, he decided to go undercover to meet
the people and to know their problems. He did this because
he knew that if he went like a king, everyone would not be able
to be free with him. So, he went out in a disguise and mixed
with the people enquiring about their problems. Being a smart
person, he figured out the needs and necessities of different
people. It helped him make the necessary changes required
for the growth of each and every one in the kingdom. Even
though the king appeared as an ordinary man to outside world,
the king alone knew his real identity.
Sri Sai, being a siddha and samarth sadguru, came in a
disguise of Maya as a common fakir. (Maya means ignorance
of one's real nature of satchitananda and identifying one self
with the body). The Intention behind the disguise is to heal
and comfort the simple folks who are tormented by the
scorching flames of the samsaara. He remained as one
among them and conversed with them in their own style.
Very rarely, he just gave glimpses of the universal self. It is
not a surprise if one's heart melts with gratitude by looking
at Sri Sai's life style. Sri Sai scrupulously followed the
conventional code of conduct and advised every one to
adhere to the rules of humility, charity, and compassion for
living beings etc. Sai treated himself as an ordinary person
and emphasized the power of Maya in our daily living. The
Maya is the Adimaya of Sri Hari. It is beginningless and
endless. He stressed that Maya is a powerful actress who
can pull down both the renunciates and worldly people
equally with her seductive powers.
He mentioned the remedy by chanting God's name as
much as possible to transcend the Maya. If one establishes
oneself firmly at the lotus feet of God or Guru, Maya
becomes powerless before the sincere devotee. Sai
conducted Nama saptah and asked his devotees to read
Gita and Gurucharita etc. Sai emphasized that devotion is
a constant emotion of love towards God present in every
living being. The reality of Maya and the absolute reality
appear very unclear and unattainable to the normal everyday
person. It would be like teaching algebra to a very young kid
who just started learning numbers. This can make the child
to refuse learning math altogether. That is why Sai gave
every one what he/she needed basing on his/her inner growth.
He showed us the simplest way [by practicing (Shraddha-faith
in God), (Saburi-forbearance to the situations in life without
losing faith in God)] to reach God.

DEVOTEES SAY:

Sai devotee
I would like to share my recent experience. I wanted to

appear for an exam conducted by a professional body for
my career enhancement. I had ordered for the study
material which cost me about $ 500 USD. As the invoice
amount is more than $ 500 USD, as per the local law, the
parcel got stuck at US Customs. Moreover I gave my
office address which caused more trouble at customs.
Customs thought that the parcel belongs to the company
and not an individual and asked me to pay more customs
duty. I requested the parcel company to help me in getting
cleared the parcel. The parcel company agreed but asked
me to pay about $ 270 USD as the process fee. Despite
of hiring the services of the company, the parcel did not
get cleared and was there at customs for about a month.
Last Wednesday morning I prayed my Lord Saibaba to
help me in getting cleared this parcel. It was a surprise to
me that by Wednesday evening I got a call that the parcel
got cleared from customs and will be delivered next day
(Thursday). To my surprise, the parcel company charged
me less amount towards process than what they said earlier.
It is reconfirmed that Baba is there for me. Thank you Baba
for your grace. Shower Your blessing always on us.

Sri
I read Sai Baba Jeevita Cheritha book, as I started it on

Thursday I am having so much tension about job, but by
Monday I got an interview call and by Baba's blessings I
got news that they selected me by Wednesday itself
before completing the book. After I read the book and
when this happen now I feel Baba is with me all the time.
Really I am very happy now and I am happy that I am a
devotee of Saibaba.

Nikhila
Thank you for blessing me with a safe delivery. By Your

grace I had a smooth pregnancy and normal delivery.
Although I am posting this a little late I remember You
always.

Geeta
Om Sainath, Om Sai. I was going through a very rough

patch in life. My husband was out of job and my son
who is just four years old, got spectacles with high
number. I prayed to Sainath that if my husband gets a
steady job and my son's eye number reduces than I
will post it in the Sai Vichaar. I did the Saptah for both
my husband and son. I gave a copy of Satcharita and
put him in the path of devotion. There was no hope for
my husband as all his licenses had expired. But he
got a well-paid job and also my son's number has come
down. Only Saibaba could do this miracle.

Nithya
I prayed to Baba that if I get good marks in my exam I

would submit an article. I stood first in my class and I
am so delighted. This week ahead is getting very tough
and strenuous. I pray to Baba that he be with me and help
me. Thank you Baba.

PRAYER CLUB:

not getting any results. Baba, please help me and let me
get good results within this week so that I am able to keep

year. Several times, I experienced your blessings in the past.
Please guide me in the right path as you always do and

Prashanti
Baba, I am sorry for what I did today. I really did not mean to

hurt my guest's feelings, it happened in a second. I want You
to forgive me for this, as I really did not intend to say what I
said. Please Baba see that they don't take this seriously and
get hurt and see that they also forgive me.

A Sai devotee
Baba I don't want to go back. Please do something so that we

may stay here forever.

because of Your blessing. This is most important part of my
career life Sai. Please help me get interviews, help me get a
good residency program in IM in this year's prematch/match.
Baba, You are my saviour. Help me.

Sai devotee
Baba, please cure my daughter's wrist who is suffering for last

six months. You have always helped me. Please take care of
her, she is in lot of pain. Baba I have full faith in You.

EXPERIENCE OF DEVOTEES:

Mithun
I say to Baba that I have faith in you but I am not sure what

faith exactly is? Recently, I realized a part of faith. I am in a
foreign land with a newly married wife to support. I have just
joined my part-time job as I am studying here. I brought
sufficient money from India but had to give it away as deposit
money for our accommodation. I had sufficient money for my
living before paying my university fees. I paid the amount by
borrowing from a friend. I had little money left with me for my
living. At this point I was worried and prayed to Baba to solve
this crisis. I have two bank accounts, and one of them is kept
to receive my scholarship money from the university, which I
usually receive once a semester, and that too at the end of
the semester. I had already received scholarship money from
the previous semester and there was no money left in it as I
withdrew the entire amount. When I was facing this financial
crisis, I had a feeling to check this empty bank account once
again through the Internet. When I opened it I was shocked
to see that I had around 280 dollars in balance. Later, I came
to know that I received this amount from the scholarship office
due to some increment, which was drafted at a later date. But
it is a miracle for me and I believe that faith in Baba means to
leave the burden unto Him and be carefree. He will take care
of everything.

Bharat
Today is Dhanteras day in USA. I had planned to get a silver

murthi of Baba. Searching online, I found some choices but was
not satisfied. They were either too small or the posture was not
what I had in mind. When I arrived in Edison, I visited couple of
stores, but they did not have any Shirdi Saibaba murthi. When I
went to the next store, the owner greeted me and asked me
what I would like to see. I told him that I was looking for Baba's
silver murthi. He asked me what size. I told him the size and he
was very surprised. He told me that he had received a similar
size murthi two days ago from India. He had placed an order for
a silver murthi of Mahalaxmi goddess, but when he opened the
package, he found Baba's murthi instead. I was elated because
that was the style of murthi I wanted. This murthi was the only
one available in that size. All other Baba murthis were
approximately one-fifth the size of this one. Turns out the owner
and his family are all Baba devotees. His family narrated their
experiences of Baba. As I left the store after purchasing the
murthi, his wife called me back to give me a udi packet from
Shirdi. Thanks Baba.

Ashutosh
Me, my wife and our little daughter were to board Mangla

express from Manmad on 27th September 2006. We started
from Shirdi at 4 pm while the train was scheduled at 6:20 pm.
We had enough time in hand but we had no clue that the
Shirdi -Manmad highway is no longer a road. It has become
a long pitch and there was very severe traffic jam. We got
stuck and desperately kept on calling the Manmad station
for train status.., praying to Baba to make the train come
late. However, the train came only ten minutes late and at
that time we were 15 Km from Manmad. We missed the
train. I started calculating what to do now and decided to
draw money from an ATM in Manmad and buy tickets for
the next train to Delhi. We finally reached Manmad at 7:45 pm
and discovered to our shock that there is not a single ATM in
Manmad or even facility to buy tickets by credit card. We were
not carrying enough money, as we never expected this to
happen. We silently prayed to Baba all the time and went on
to buy general tickets to Mumbai. In less than five minutes,
we got the "train not boarded" refund certificate from the
stationmaster and as soon as we reached the platform, within
a minute we got a train to Mumbai. We boarded the AC
compartment as we had sufficient money to buy 3 AC tickets
of Manmad to Mumbai. The train was going to Kalyan, which is
one end of Mumbai and we had to go to Mira Road, another
end in opposite direction. Baba was so kind at that hour of the
night that everything fell into place after that. When we got
down at Kalyan, we were to go to another platform to take train
to Dadar. But, to our shock, the Dadar local came at the same
platform where we got down and that too within five minutes of
our getting down.

continued....
After that, we took a chance and called up my wife's uncle, who

is in Railways in Mumbai to find out connecting train from Dadar
to Mira Road. To our great surprise, he was himself on duty on
the last train. We requested him to do whatever but take us
home in his train. At Dadar, the Kalyan train stops at one end
of the station and the Mira road train at another end. The Mira
road train had already arrived at Dadar. We crossed the bridge
with bags and baby in arms and rushing to catch the train, as
it was the last train. My wife's uncle took the risk of halting the
local train at Dadar for more than two minutes, which can be a
major thing as no local in Mumbai stops for more than 30 seconds.
But he took that risk for us and with Baba's blessings, we
reached my wife's house in Mira road at 2:00 am. Next evening
we took the Rajdhani to Delhi. Baba did not delay the train for
us at Manmad but just see how he then helped us. We did not
face any problems at all. He guided our instincts one by one and
helped us reach home safe and sound. Dadar train coming on a
different platform than usual and my wife's uncle being on duty
on the last local train to Mira road cannot be mere coincidences.

MEDITATION MAKES MIND CLEAN & STEADY

Leading a virtuous life may not by itself, sufficient for
God-realization. Concentration of the mind is absolutely

necessary. A good life prepares the mind as a fit
instrument for meditation, which ventually leads to self-
realization, without whose aid, one, cannot row into the
divine state or liberate oneself from its trammels and
attain immortality.

Meditation is the keeping up of an unceasing flow of God-
consciousness, when all worldly thoughts are shut out

and the mind is saturated with divine thoughts. Just as oil,
when poured from one vessel to another, flows ceaselessly,
just as the harmonious sound produced from the ringing of
bells falls upon the ear in a continuous stream, so too, the
mind should `flow' towards God in an unbroken way.

The man, who has not purified his mind, will not be able to
start the fire of meditation. It is equally important that no
violent or sudden attempt should be made to control the
mind. It should be granted a little freedom for a while, make
it run and exhaust it efforts. It will initially jump like an
untrained monkey. But it is bound to calm down gradually.
Divine thoughts should be allowed to get in slowly, when
vicious tendencies will vanish. It is like sweeping a room
that was kept closed for many months and where dirt
remains accumulated.

3. SAI IN DREAMS:
http://www.ettitude media.com
These are the dream sequences and messages as received

by SaiBaNiSa Ji From our beloved GURU LORD SAINATH OF
SHIRIDI. In Anticipation that this feature will 1help in one's
spiritual growth are hereby compiled from his personal Diary
and presented to SAIBANDHUS.

Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY.

06-10-1994

How to live courageously with peace? I could not find an answer
and I looked towards SAI for guidance. I was shown with the
visuals--

I was insulted in a meeting of seniors by my boss. I felt very
much let down and upset. Next day without loosing patience,
I presented him with facts and pointed the mistake he has
committed. From there on, I observed a marked change in
conducting myself before others is only due to Sainath.

I set out on a pilgrimage accompanied by my wife. On the way,
I met a Saint resembling Sai. He said "wife can at the most
accompany you on a pilgrimage, whereas on the spiritual
journey, one has to travel by himself. It is relatively a difficult
one and lots of efforts are needed to be put in". I woke up
from my sleep.

An angry mind looses direction and purpose.

09-10-1994

My thoughts were reeling between courage and cowardice. As
usual I looked towards my master. Baba said- both are mind
dependent with their origin traced to within.
For example: Take lesson from a mother serving a plague

effected child resting in her lap, lesson from a couple living
happily even though they are not blessed with children and
lastly the refugees from Tibet with small kids living against
all odds without proper shelters.

I thus concluded once we are able to overcome the weak
mind, the power of courage automatically surfaces.

Life never comes to standstill even with all the obstacles.

10-10-1994

Discharging of moral and social obligations should not the
only aim in life. Try knowing the creator and the purpose
for which we are here. Never give away presentations to
anybody after incurring debts. Winning over their hearts is
of less importance compared to the troubles likely to be
invited later unknowingly.

Know thyself.

4. QUINTESSENCE OF SRI SAIBABA'S PHILOSOPHY:
(By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao)
"Shashi":
shashi_31@yahoo. com

25. Importance of Swadharma:

If Swadharma is not performed properly, the mind will be
dragged into and tied down in Samsara. Those who perform
Swadharma properly, the wavering nature of their mind will
be reduced and it becomes peaceful; their attractions
towards worldly activities get reduced and they lead a
straight forward right path of life. There is nothing superior
to Swadharma.

We should not try to imitate to the Dharmas of others.
Compared with Dharmas of others doing our own
Swadharma much superior. This will uplift us soon. If we
undertake others activities on our head, it will cause
many difficulties, filling our mind with worldly affairs.
Try to acquire the mercy of God. Get your mind out of the
whirlpool of worldly affairs. Your mind will become pure.
If your acts of Swadharma are done at all times, you will
never get any harm.

Baba said to one of His Sadhakas, -"Everyone has to perform
Swadharma daily as Yagna. If you leave your Swadharma and
show interest in other Dharmas, you will be caught in the circle
of births and deaths. If you are doing Swadharma well, you will
not be entangled in worldly ties. As the world is entangled in
Maya, one is becoming weak by not doing Swadharma. If you
are associated Swadharma well, all your desires will be fulfilled,
even without performing rituals, pilgrimages, Bhajans etc. Do
not keep any selfish idea in your mind.

If you perform Swadharma with faith and devotion that itself will
fulfill all your desires like Kamadhenu. Swadharma will never

let you down. If you do not perform Swadharma, you will be
surrounded by difficulties. You will not be able to enjoy your
pleasures. However much you weep, you can not get out of
your difficulties. So do not leave Swadharma. Do not allow your
Indriyas to go about as they please. If anyone does so, he will
get destroyed like fish out of water. If any one spends money
with self-less motto, his sins will be washed out and will get
God – realization. So every one must do their own Swadharma
and spend his money freely in his Swadharma.

6. SAIBANISA OFFERS PRANAMS TO "Maa Tulasi

"BABA used to maintain

TULASI KALYAN IS ON 02-11-2006
Tulasi in legends

A number of passages in the Puranas and other scriptures
(Vedas), point to the importance of tulasi within religious
worship. Tulasi is regarded as a goddess and a consort of
Lord Vishnu. A garland of tulasi leaves is the first offering to
the Lord as part of the daily ritual. Tulasi is accorded the sixth
place among the eight objects of worship in the ritual of the
consecration of the kalasha, the container of holy water.

One story has it that when Krishna was weighed in gold, not
even all the ornaments of His consort Satyabhama could
outweigh Him. But a single tulasi leaf placed by His another
consort Rukmini on the pan tilted the scale.

Tulasi is ceremonially married to Vishnu annually on the
eleventh bright day of the month of Kaartika in the lunisolar
calendar. This festival continues for five days and concludes
on the full moon day, which falls in mid-October. This ritual,
called the "Tulasi Vivaha", inaugurates the annual marriage
season in India.

7. DEVOTEES EXPERIENCES:

Geetha

In 1996 I went with a few colleagues to Singapore, Bangkok
and Hong Kong on a work related exposure trip. By the time
we reached Hong Kong. I was tired and kept feeling I have
not seen Baba's picture in days. In Hong Kong we could not
find any accommodation due to the celebrations for the
independence from British Rule. A local Indian Businessman
known to a colleague got us place as paying guest with a
Korean family.

I was in the elevator and it was Thursday. Suddenly a lady
entered carrying agarbatti and I could not stop myself from
asking her where she was going. And she said to the Sai
mandir which is on the 10th floor of the building.

My hair stood on ends and I could not believe that this was
possible. We got a place to stay in the very building that
Baba's temple was there. To date when ever I remember
that incident I cannot but bow my head with love to this
great old man.

8. SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SAI SATCHARITRA

Swamy" swamymain@yahoo. com
Fri, 20 Oct 2006 21:29:39 -0700 (PDT)

Sai Ram.

Let us continue with the Spiritual Gems from Chapter 21
of Sai Satcharita.

"There have been institutions of Saints in this world, from time
immemorial. Various Saints appear (incarnate) themselves in

various places to carry out the missions allotted to them, but
though they work in different places, they are, as it were, one."

All saints are one with each other. They work in unison under
the common authority of the Almighty Lord and supplement
work wherever necessary. An instance illustrating this is given
below."

"Mr. V.H.Thakur, B.A., was a clerk in the Revenue Department
and he once came to a town named Vadgaum near Belgaum
(S.M. Country) along with a Survey party. There he saw a
Kanarese Saint (Appa) and bowed before him." Sai Ram. To
meet a Saint we must have some poorva janma punyam and
the time has to come. "The Saint was explaining a portion
from the book "Vichar-Sagar" of Nischaldas (a standard work
on Vedanta) to the audience." Sai Ram. Vichar Sagar means
a sea of Miseries. The Saint was explaining these abstruse
concepts to people in a simple language. Sai Ram.

"When Thakur was taking his leave to go, he said to him, "you
should study this book, and if you do so, your desires will be
fulfilled, and when you go to the North in the discharge of your
duties in future, you will come across a great Saint by your
good luck, and then he will show you the future path, and give
rest to your mind and make you happy".

Sai Ram. Is it not rather strange that the Saint should tell
Thakur to read a book on Vedanta and assure him that if he
reads that book, his desires will get fulfilled? At first sight, it
does appear rather strange, but it is not strange if we
understand what the desire(s) of that gentleman are.
Suppose his desire is for liberation from the worldly desires,
will not the study of Vedanta help? Yes, it will certainly help.
Sai Ram.

And the Saint Appa knew the future of Sri Thakur and hence
this assurance. It is very clear that Sri Thakur was a ripening
fruit ready for plucking by the Master. Sai Ram.

"Then, he was transferred to Junnar, where he had to go by
crossing Nhane Ghat. This Ghat was very steep and impassable,
and no other conveyance, than a buffalo was of use in crossing it."

Sai Ram. Buffalo is the Vahana of Sri Yama, the Lord of Death
and also Lord of Dharma and Karma. So, the little self of Thakur
had to go through a lot of difficulty and finish its Karma before
he could receive the grace of Sadguru Sai. Hence this buffalo
ride!

"So he had to take a buffalo-ride through the Ghat, which
inconvenienced and pained him much. Thereafter, he was

transferred to Kalyan on higher post, and there he became
acquainted with Nanasaheb Chandorkar. He heard much
about Sai Baba from him and wished to see Him."

Sai Ram. This is called Subhechha, a good desire. Though
all desires are to be finally given up, in the spiritual path,
good desires help us move forward unlike the 'bad'
(materialistic, sensual, pleasure seeking which make a
person selfish and make him forget that he is not the little
self but is one with the Universal Self) desires. In a way,
good desires and the consequent good actions help us
to nullify the negative karma. Thus Thakur got the desire
to see the Saint, whom he was ordained to meet years
ago, but is not aware yet.

"Next day, Nanasaheb had to go to Shirdi, and he asked
Thakur to accompany him. He could not do so as he had
to attend the Thana Civil Court for a civil case. So
Nanasaheb went alone. Thakur went to Thane, but there
the case was postponed. Then, he repented for not
accompanying Nanasaheb."

Sai Ram. This is an example of most of us. We repent for
lost opportunities (material or spiritual) without realizing
that we cannot go back in time. But see the difference
between a good Sadhaka and a not so good one. Thakur
did not give up his plan of going to Shirdi just because he
could not go with Nanasaheb. Sai Ram.

"Still he left for Shirdi and when he went there, he found
that Nanasaheb had left the place the previous day. Some
of his other friends, whom he met there, took him to Baba.
He saw Baba, fell at His Feet and was overjoyed. His eyes
were full of tears of joy and his hair stood on end."

Sai Ram. Guru's grace was passing like an electric current
through him causing those sensations.

"After a while the omniscient Baba said to him - "The path
of this place is not so easy as the teaching of the Kanarese
Saint Appa or even as the buffalo-ride in the Nhane Ghat. In
this spiritual path, you have to put in your best exertion as
it is very difficult". When Thakur heard these significant
signs and words, which none else than he knew, he was
overwhelmed with joy."

Sai Ram. At other places also, Sai indicated the difficulty of
the spiritual path, which is compared to a knife edge, a thin
rope tied between two poles and suspended over a raging river
below etc. "He came to know, that the word of the Kanarese
Saint had turned true. Then joining both hands and placing his
head on Baba's Feet, he prayed that he should be accepted
and blessed."

Sai Ram. The surrender of the ego is an important part in
learning. And Thakur knew that the great Saint referred to by
Saint Appa is none other than Sadguru Sai. The placing of
his head on Baba's feet is to receive the grace, which is like
the flow of Ganges that will wash out the dirt within and
illumine the inner space. Sai Ram.

"Then Baba said - "What Appa told you was all right, but
these things have to be practiced and lived. Mere reading
won't do. You have to think and carry out what you read;
otherwise, it is of no use. Mere book-learning, without the
grace of the Guru, and self-realization, is of no avail"".
Sai Ram. The word Acharya, which is used to mean Guru,
actually means One who treads the path. For example,

seeing the road map of the route from Hyderabad to Delhi
is needed but not sufficient to reach Delhi. We need to take
a guide (Guru), who is familiar with the route. Or we need to
ask at important stages in the journey. In the case of Thakur,
the Saint Appa indicated years ago that in future when he
goes to north, he will meet a great Saint who will show him
the further path. And Sai is showing bim now. Sai Ram.

"The theoretical portion was read from the work `Vichar Sagar'
by Thakur, but the practical way was shown to him at Shirdi.
Another story given below will bring out this truth more forcibly."
Sai Ram.
What a wonderful story! What great insights! We are truly

blessed. Sai Ram.

9. SAI WITH CHILDREN:
http://www.saidarba r.org/HTML/ portraits/ 7.jpg
Smt. Madhu Gopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad.

Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use
to play with children and used to tell stories to them? I felt
children visiting Saidarbar should be entertained with good
stories. For the last two years I have told you about Lord
Krishna's Leelas and Lord Rama Story. Now I want to tell
the stories what heard in my child hood.

The story of the elephant and the sparrow

Once upon a time there lived a sparrow with her husband
on a tree. She had built a nice nest and laid her eggs in the
nest. One morning, a wild elephant with spring fever feeling
restive came to the tree in search of shade and in a rage
broke the branch of the tree on which the nest was residing.
Unluckily all the sparrow eggs were lost though both parents
were saved. The she-sparrow was deep in lament.

Seeing her lament, the woodpecker bird, a friend of hers

offered her consolation that she would think of a way of
killing the elephant.
Then she went to her friend the gnat, who in turn went to the
counselor frog for advice. The frog then devised a scheme for

killing the elephant. He asked the gnat to buzz in the ears of
the elephant, so that the elephant would be thrilled to listen
to the music of the gnat and close its eyes. Then she asked
the woodpecker to pluck his eyes. She herself would be on
the edge of a pit and would croak misleading the elephant to
think that it is a pond.

The next day at noon the three carried out the plan and the

elephant was killed when he fell flat into a pit after being
blinded by the woodpecker when he closed his eyes in
response to the gnat. So the revenge was taken with
collective wit of all three animals.

MORAL: Wit is superior to brute force.

10. ARTICLES FROM SAI DEVOTEES:
Sai ka laadla saikalaadla@ yahoo.com
9/7/2006 05:03:21 -0700

Belief comes spontaneously. Belief comes by effort. In
the spiritual life, a sincere, advanced and surrendered
seeker can and will have spontaneous belief. Belief by
personal effort, without the divine grace and Sri Sai Baba's
unconditional protection, cannot be as effective as
spontaneous belief. We have two principal organs: the
eye and the ear. Our eyes quite often, if not always,
believe themselves. Our ears very often believe others.
These are our human eyes and our human ears. But the
divine eye, the third eye, will believe only in the vision of
Divinity, and the divine ears will believe only in the truth
of reality. When we listen to the inner command, when we
have the capacity to grow into constant obedience to our
Inner Pilot, we feel within and without the presence of
spontaneous belief. Belief is the reality of our inner
obedience. This is divine belief, spontaneous belief. Belief
by effort is a restricted, disciplined human understanding.

Belief is power. A real seeker of the infinite Truth knows
this. An insincere and unaspiring seeker is aware of the
truth that belief is power, but he cannot go beyond
understanding or awareness; whereas a sincere, genuine,
devoted and surrendered seeker knows that belief is
dynamic power, and he has this power as his very own.

We see a tree. The tree bears flowers, and soon after
wards we see fruits. The flower is the harbinger of the
fruit. In the spiritual life, belief is the flower. Belief is a
divine angel which enters into us as the harbinger of
Sri Sai Baba.

If we do not have belief, we can develop belief. How?
We can do it by mixing with sincere spiritual people
who care more for Sri Sai Baba than for pleasure.
There are also people who care only for Sri Sai Baba
in human beings, and if we mix with those people we
can cultivate belief. When we have belief, we can
walk with Sri Sai Baba in His Garden of Light and
Delight.
