Sai Baba - The Financier (January 1984)

Sai Baba - The Financier (January 1984)

It was   in   the   month   of July   1980 that I first  met Pujya Shri
Acharya E. Bharadwaja,   who is  doing   yeoman service for the   spread
of   Sai    devotion,   at   Chivatam    village.    It   was  a
''Mandalaradhana   Day”   after the   Mahasamadhi  of "Mother of L.Hivatam"
and a Guru   Poornima  day too.   On that auspicious occasion and in the
presence of so many  "Mahatmas", I got an inspiration   to   start   Sai
Satsang  at  Kovvur.    Accordingly we started Satsang with the  children of
our surroundings, who belong to the   age   group  of 5 to 15 years.    It
is now   going   on every -day   with   increasing   faith and devotion and
the participants of the   Satsang   are   enjoying   the  blessings of Baba
as well as the appreciation    of  the   society.    It   is   clearly
evident   from   our experience   that it is His Power alone that enables us
to conduct the Satsang   every   day   without   fail.   I wish to narrate
here a great miracle which happened at our Sai Kuteer.

It was in the month of July 1983 that my sister-in-law. Smt. Lakshmi
Kamamurthy, who is the chief organiser of our Satsang, was worried a lot
regarding how to celebrate the coming Guru Poornima Day. As all the members
of our Satsang are only children, we do not have any patrons to raise funds
for special offerings on that day. So, Smt Lakshmi had decided to celebrate
it in a simple way without much expenditure. But the compassionate Baba
would not allow His devotees to be disappointed in any matter. On 6th July
1983, the postman handed over a registered cover to Smt Lakshmi. It was from
my brother's son, Mr. Satya Prasad, who is working in Hyderabad. Immediately
after opening the cover nineteen ten rupee notes (a sum of Rs. 190/-) fell
down.    In utter astonishment, she unfolded the letter   inside,   in
which   she found Rs. 75/-  kept separately. Mr. Satya    Prasad   wrote in
the letter  that he used to send Rs.25/- to Shirdi every  month.    But he
could  not do so since three  months for unknown   reasons.    So, he is
sending that amount o( Rs. 75/- for the  coming Guru Poornima  Celebrations
in our Sai Kuteer.   But   he did   not mention  any thing about the other
190/-. Smt, Lakshmi thought that they   were put in the cover by mistake
and   so   she dropped a letter  immediately to Mr. Satya Prasad   seeking
clarification   about   this   amount.    By  return  post, he   confirmed
that he did not  know   anything about those Rs. I90/-   and that he sent
only   Rs. 75/-.    Then we understood that it is nothing but a "Sai
Leeela".    In that way Baba, financing by Himself, got performed Sahasra
Nama Puja, Anna Samaradhana; etc., on a grand scale on Guru Poornima Day.

Satsang Chapter 2 :Sri_Sai_Sat_Charitra_Concise(Version)

Om Shree Ganeshaya Namah!
Om Sai Ram!

Chapter 2:::
TITLE TO DHABOLKAR
The life history of saints is not a topic for logical arguments or for debate. The saints resolve for the emergence of their biography and the writer is merely an instrument. The stories of Sai baba give peace of mind and happiness to those carrying the heavy burden of pain and sadness of this world. Giving udhi [sacred ash] and placing His wish fulfilling hand on Hemad Panth's head Sai baba said : " I should write my own life history and fulfill the cherished desire of my devotees." Dhabolkar , while narrating how in 1910 he came first to shirdi on the advise of Nana Chandodkar and was attracted by Baba, also describes how Baba came to know by His omniscience the assertion made by him to Shir Bhate that Guru was not needed and nicknamed him 'Hemad Panth'.
Next day when Hemad Panth was in the masjid Baba told Kaka Dikshit : ' To reach high above there is a route also from here.If one takes the assistance of a guide he will steer clear of tiger , fox , ditches etc. and take straight  to the goal."
This was the answer to the debate that Hemad Panth had the previous day whether one needed a Guru or not.

Chapter 1:Sri_Sai_Sat_Charitra_Concise(Version)

Om Sai Ram!!
"Sri Sai Sat Charitra (concise) was prepared by Shri A. Govindakrishnan ji to enable devotees to travel through the entire sat charitram in an hour daily or as frequnetly in a week as possible, however busy a person may be. This was found to be useful for employed ladies who had to look after household duties also and found wanting for time. However, This work is not for sale and meant only for the usage by interested individuals.
My sincere heart felt pranams and thanks to Shree A. Govindakrishnan ji for making this available to all the Sai bhakts...

                                                       PREFACE
"Prostrating humbly countless times at the lotus feet of Sai Gajananan who bestows supreme bliss, I start writing the small book 'Shri Sai Sat Charitra Amrit' .. Shri Hemadpant has compiled the divine plays of Shri Sainath into a massive garland and has adorned Sainath with that. But, it is not easy for everyone to recite and adorn the Lord in one day at a go, with this massive garland,as they would be wanting in time and strength. The thought that if from out of this massive garland many colourful flowers are gathered and a small bouquet is made, it would be easy to adorn our Lord with that daily or on holy days like Guru Poornima, Thursdays-holy day for Guru , Sankranthi was seeded by Baba on 17-2-2003 [a Poornima day] when I completed my usual Shri Satyanarayana Puja while I was in Chennai for a short trip. First it flowered as a small write up in Tamil and since many, including my daughter was not proficient in Tamil, I translated it in simple English on Guru Poornima day.Sri Sainath instigated me and Himself prepared this bouquet for the sake of His dear devotees.
This flower bouquet is submitted at the golden feet of Sainath".

BABA GRINDS WHEAT
Hemad Pant, after prostrating first to his Ganpathi Sri Sainath , salutes to Saraswathi , Brahma , Vishnu , Siva, Narayan Adhinaath, all rishis of his lineage [gotra], later day saints, his forefathers and then narrates the following event:
"Some time after 1910 one fine morning Baba started grinding wheat in the masjid. Large crowd gathered to see his action . Four ladies voluntarily came forward, forcibly removed Baba and started grinding the wheat, singing His praise. Later when they tried to share the flour among themselves, Baba became furious and ordered them to spray it at the outskirts of Shirdi.People said that this was the panacea Baba devised for warding off Cholera from Shirdi. On thinking of this divine sport my heart was filled with joy and an urge to write Baba's 'Satcharitra'. Sai Baba, who lived in Shirdi for almost 60 years, used to grind wheat on many occasions. In reality, He was grinding off the sins, physical and mental agonies of His countless devotees."

Life ends when U stop dreaming ....
Hope ends when U stop believing,
Love ends when U stop caring ......
Friendship ends when U stop sharing.
So lets not stop dreaming about the people we want to be, lets not stop beleiving in ourselves and in the people who believe in us, lets not stop caring about the ones who add meaning to our lives and lets not stop sharing our lives with our friends and life patners..
WE JUST HAVE ONE LIFE TO LIVE- LETS LIVE IT WITH HOPE, LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP..

on and it was quite ready at noon. The Holika-worship
was gone through and the leaves (dishes) were spread
and arranged with 'Rangoli' marks around them. Baba’s
picture was placed on the central seat reserved for
the guest and after the due offering of the Naivedya,
the whole party commenced eating and finished it in
proper time. Seeing the beautiful form in the picture
everybody was extremely pleased and wondered how all
this happened.”

HOLI AS PER SANATANA DHARMA

Brahma then appeared before Hiranyakshipu and the
demon asked for a boon thus “Let not my death occur at
the hands of living beings created by you. Holi ‘O’
Lord, let there be no death to me indoors or outdoors,
by day or night, from anyone or even through weapons,
neither on earth nor in the air, by men nor animals;
nor should I meet my death at the hands of animate or
inanimate beings, gods, demons or serpents.” Brahma
granted him the boon. Believing that he was now
invincible, Hiranyakshipu soon became pompous and
ordered all his people to worship only him. The demon
how ever, had a son named Prahalad who was an ardent
devotee of Vishnu. Much to his father's chagrin,
Prahalad continued to pray to Vishnu. The evil demon
decided to kill his son, but each attempt failed. The
king then summoned his sister Holika who, because of a
boon, was immune to fire. He prepared a pyre, lit it
and asked Holika to sit on it, clutching Prahalad.
Vishnu intervened to save Prahalad and the evil Holika
perished instead. This legend is relived on Choti Holi
when the pyre is re-lit. Holika also signifies the
dirt and filth that collects during the winter months.
Hay and old rubbish is thrown into the bonfire for
spring-cleaning.

Holi at Mathura and Vrindavana is celebrated with
great gusto for many days, as these were the places
where Krishna spent most of his childhood. It is
celebrated for many days here. Each major temple
celebrates Holi on a different day. People throng the
temples to get drenched with colored water and
consider it a blessing from the god.

In Maharashtra and Gujarat, a grand procession of men
soaked with colored water walksholi through the
streets shouting 'Govinda ala re ala, Zara matki
sambhal brijbala'' or 'Here comes Govinda (another
name of Krishna), take care of your pots of butter and
milk, oh girls from Brij'. This refers to Krishna's
habit of stealing butter and milk stored in terracotta
pots from people's homes. As a child, Krishna was
extremely fond of milk and milk products. He would
prowl into any accessible house with his friends and
steal pots of butter or break pots of milk. During
Holi, a pot of buttermilk is hung high up in the
street. Men forming a human staircase try to break
this pot, and whoever succeeds is crowned the Holi
king of the locality for that year.

In Bengal, Holi is called Dol Yatra, or the swing
festival. Idols of Radha and Krishna are placed on
swings and devotees take turns to swing them. Women
dance around the swing and sing devotional songs, as
men spray colored water at them.

These are the dream sequences and messages as received
by SAIBANISA From our beloved GURU LORD SAINATH OF
SHIRIDI. In Anticipation that this feature will help
in one's spiritual growth are hereby compiled from
his personal Diary and presented to SAIBANDHUS.

Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY.

16-04-1994

Yesterday, I had been to a friend’s house. A Swamiji
was invited, being honored, and worshiped.  Having
seen the function, I got tempted to opt for
‘Sanyasasrama’. Baba quipped and said-

It is highly difficult even for great saints to
overcome their attachments towards mother, place of
birth and surrounding society where one has spent
major portion of his life. Therefore practice Gruhasta
dharma and complete all the responsibilities to the
last one.

Sainthood is not a child’s play.

22-04-1994

I repented the whole day as I felt that precious time
is getting wasted living entangled in the worldly
affairs alone. When is it time proper to start
thinking about God?

Baba in the form of an unknown person said-

Gram will sprout only when water is sprinkled on them
irrespective of whether kept in an old cloth or a new
cloth. Cover the thought of reaping the benevolence of
the almighty with devotion like sprinkling of water.
God cannot be pleased with rituals alone performed
mechanically without an aura of devotion added to
them.

The path of renunciation is a tougher one.

23-04-1994

Sai appeared in the form of an unknown person and
said-

Time is the precious gift from God to mankind. Do not
waste it and spend every available moment in his
service and for a good cause.

Make a meaning for the life and thus try attaining the
grace of the almighty.

Every moment is ripe one for thinking about God.

4. QUINTESSENCE OF SRI SAIBABA'S PHILOSOPHY:
(By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao)
"Shashi": shashi_31@yahoo.com

22. Atma – Jnana

There is no permanent existence for the destructible
bodies. The Atman never ceases to be. Realization of
Self results in the total reversal of this
identification, when the aspirant identifies himself
with the Atma and is fully aware that the body is only
an adjunct to his Self. Then there is no more delusion
about the ephemeral nature of his body which he
understands, to be the effect of Karma.

The eternal nature of the wise is to get over the fear
of death. The Self is Akarta and Abhokta. Only an
intelligent man understands this. A Jnani only
identifies himself with the self Ajnani identifies
himself with his body. Till realization takes place,
death continues to cause fear in us. It is
consciousness of Atma, which is reflected in the
functioning of the body and the mind which are the
effect of Karma. Karma cannot touch the Atma. Till the
knowledge of the Self dawns, the mind continues to be
deluded by the ego and hence transmission goes on. We
must know that only self- realization can cut the knot
of ignorance and put an end to re-births.

Supreme God exists in the form of Atman through out
the life of an individual and silently remains a mere
on-looker. ‘Brahman’ never interferes with the
activities of individual, who exists in the world. The
real nature of every person is that of the Supreme
God, because he derives energy for his existence from
Brahman, who remains inside his body it self. Our
Physical  and sensory organs are mere ‘Sporting tools’
of Brahman. Hence all of us must develop the ability
to be willing tool of Brahman and we should not react
emotionally or physically for the events that occur
around us from time to time and be a mere witness.

Sai through Reincarnations

By:  Sai Sevak Raghuraman Satulury

The thought to pen down ‘Sai in Janma Janmantar’ has
come to my mind after hearing Saibanisa explaining the
subject to the gatherings during his discourses at
different places. The incidents are compiled and
placed before the Saibandhus with the intention that
these may perhaps serve as food to their spiritual
hunger.

Baba in various contexts told his devotees that they
were known to Him from their past many lives. Baba
often talked with full knowledge and precision about
the visitor’s past and future. We find such instances
are quite often depicted as we go through Sai
Satcharitra and even in other epics where Divya and
Mano - dhrusti were
 involved.

 Quoted from Sai Satcharitra:

Lord Sainath was eating food offered to him by
Lakshmi Khaparde and simultaneously he was speaking
about her previous lives. She in her earlier life was
a cow in a businessman’s house. Afterwards she was
born in a Gardener’s family, then followed her rebirth
in a family of Kshyatrias. Baba said, “now in the
present life as the daughterof a Brahmin she is
feeding me”.

The stories of two brothers, who constantly fought
with each other, after death were reborn as two goats.
Dubaki, the poor lady had mortgaged her land with a
moneylender.  In the next birth the same lady was
born as Chennabasappa and the moneylender as
Veerabahadrappa. These two persons Chennabasappa and
Veerabhadrappa lived as enemies all through their life
and were reborn as a snake and frog, thus continuing
their mutual hatred in their next life too.

There are instances where human beings are reborn as
animals to complete the spilt over ‘Vrunanubhandha’
from their previous lives. The tiger about to die was
brought and made to stand before Baba.
The tiger lifted it’s tail, looked into the powerful
eyes of Baba and then collapsed at the lotus feet of
Baba. Baba then said to the keepers’- “it is now
relieved from the debts of the past life, after having
served you all along, is now freed from all the
 bonds”.

Jadabharatha, a saint developed deep attachment
towards a pet deer having nurtured it from the
infancy. Jadabharatha was reborn as a deer in his next
life in order to satiate his love towards the animal.

SANATANA DHARMA –NEWS FROM ABROAD:

Mauritius Celebrates Mahasivaratri

www.deccanherald.com

MAURITIUS, February 25, 2006: When the Siva temples in
India echo with the chaste chants of "Om Namo Sivaih"
and ardent devotees make a beeline at Sivalingams all
over the country to offer their prayers on the
occasion of Sivaratri, the beautiful island of
Mauritius too resounds with the devotional notes of
"Bam Bam Bhole." Thousands of worshippers prefer to
walk all the distance to Ganga Talao (Grand Bassin) to
fetch the holy waters to offer to the Sivalingams in
their homes. Ganga Talao is considered as sacred as
the Holy Ganges in India.

Indians being the predominant population in Mauritius,
all Indian festivals like Deepavali, Holi, Ganesh
Chaturthi, Eid, Ugadi are celebrated with traditional
gaiety and fervor, but Mahasivaratri is perhaps the
biggest of all. It is a public holiday in Mauritius.

For the Maurituan Hindu, a pilgrimage to the volcanic
sacred lake of Grand Bassin or Ganga Talao is a
spiritual obligation that every family fulfils on Maha
Sivaratri. Most worshippers start the day with a
thorough cleaning and decoration of their houses. When
they proceed to the sacred lake, singing bhajanas all
along the way, people offer water or juice to them as
is done in India to the pilgrims going for
pilgrimages.

South African Youth Celebrate Mahasivaratri

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA, February 26, 2006:
Chanting prayers, Hindu youths took part in an annual
procession ahead of the Sivaratri festival in the
South African Indian township of Lenasia near here.
The procession drew a crowd of more than 2,500
devotees. At each of the six Hindu temples along the
eight-kilometer route in Lenasia, devotees welcomed
the procession with traditional Gujarati garba dances.
The Hindu Coordinating Council organized the yatra.
Council chairman Kokie Singh told IANS that there were
14 groups participating from all over Gauteng
province, but most significant aspect this year was
the involvement of the large number of youths. "I
think this is because they realize that culture is
important (and) as they become increasingly aware of
the spiritual functions," he said. "The elderly folk
were particularly overjoyed at the shuttle service.
They could be ferried between temples on the route
without having to walk." Many devotees brought along
their own containers for taking home the water handed
out at several points along the route. This is a mix
of the Ganges and local well water. In Laudium, a much
smaller crowd than had been expected joined the 11th
annual sivaratri Yatra organized by the Pretoria Hindu
organization. Devotees started to walk at the Sivan
Alayam temple and proceeded to the Vishnu Mandir
before ending the procession at the Seva Samaj temple.
At each temple prayers were offered.

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA, February 25, 2006; Maha
Sivarathiri Day religious observance is to be held in
the historic Trincomalee Koneswaram Temple,
Thiruketheeswaram Temple in Mannar and Kantalai
Choleeswaram (Siva) Temple, about 20 km southwest off
Trincomalee town on February 26th Sunday night .
Arrangements are being made by the temple societies
and Hindu Affairs Department, sources said.
Koneswaram, Thiruketheeswaram and Choleeswaram are
several-centuries-old Sivan Temples in the North East.
According to chronicles, Koneswaram temple was built
six thousand years ago and King Kulakottan
reconstructed it later. Likewise Thirukeeswaram temple
was also built several hundred years ago. King Raja
Cholan built Choleeswaram temple in Kantalai in 1010
ce when Cholan regime in South India was at its peak.
The ruins of Choleeswaram were found in the midst of
jungle when the Colombo government in 1952 implemented
its state-aided colonization scheme in Kantalai, a
traditional Tamil village that has now turned it to
Sinhalese dominated, according to chronicles. Saiva
saints Thirugnanasambanthar and Suntharamoorthy have
praised the glories of Koneswaram and
Thiruketheeswaram temples in their Saiva religious
books, which are called Thiru Muraigal. Meanwhile at a
conference held Tuesday in Mannar District Secretariat
with Additional Government Agent Mr. N. Neekilaspillai
in the chair, army officials present had promised to
shift backwards their sentry points located along
Mannar-Madawachchiya (A 14) highway to facilitate
devotees traveling in vehicles to reach
Thiruketheeswaram temple without any hindrance,
sources said.

Remote Malaysian Temple Holds Consecration Ceremony

LABUAN, EAST MALAYSIA, February 18, 2006 The
31-year-old "Thirumurugan" Hindu Temple will hold its
"Maha Kumbabhishagam" (consecration) ceremony tomorrow
(Sunday). It is the third time that the temple is
holding such a ceremony and five priests from Kuala
Lumpur would be present for the auspicious occasion.
Chairman of the event's organizing committee, R.
Ramasamy, said musicians from Kuala Lumpur would also
be present for the three-day event. He said there were
only about 250 Hindus on the island (off the west
coast of Borneo) and without the support of those in
Sabah like Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, it
would be difficult for the temple to hold such a
"divine" event. The temple is located in the Armed
Forces area and maintained by Hindu personnel from the
Forces, while the business community provides the
support. Ramasamy said the temple reflects an ideal
co-operation and understanding between the Forces and
civilians.

6. SAIBANISA OFFERS PRANAMS TO “LORD SIVA”
From Sai Satcharita -chapter 28

Megha began to look upon Sai Baba as an incarnation of
Shiva In order to worship Shiva, bela leaves are
required and Megha used to go miles and miles every
day to bring them and worship his Shiva (Baba).

Megha returned to the Wada, and drew a red Trident on
the wall near Baba's picture. Next day a Ramadasi
Bhakta came from Poona, saluted Baba and offered Him
Pindi (an image of Shiva). At this time Megha also
turned up there. Baba said to him - "See, Shankar has
come, protect (i.e., worship) Him now." Megha was
surprised to see Pindi following Trident immediately.

2. SRI MALLIKARJUNA in Sri Sailam

Srisailam bramaramba Mallukarjuna swamy temple

Srisailam is located in Kurnool district of Andhra
Pradesh. This whole area is full of forests of Kadali,
Bilva trees, mountain ranges and Patalaganga
(Krishnaveni river). All of them echo from these
joyous voices of devotees.
Puranic History of Srisailam

When Kumar Kartikeya returned to Kailash after
completing his trip around the earth, he heard about
Ganesha’s marriage from Narada. This angered him. In
spite of being restrained by his parents, he touched
their feet in obeisance and left for Krounch Mountain.
Parvati was very distraught at having to be away from
her son, implored Lord Shiva to look for their son.
Together, they went to Kumara. But, Kumara went away a
further three Yojanas, after learning about his
parents coming after him to Krouncha Mountain. Before
embarking on a further search for their son on each
mountain, they decided to leave a light on every
mountain they visited. From that day, that place came
to be known as JyotirLinga Mallikarjuna. It is
believed that Shiva and Parvati visit this palce on
Amavasya (No moon day) and (full Moon day) Pournami,
respectively. Visiting this JyotirLinag not only
blesses one with innumerable wealth, but also name and
fame and fulfils all the desires.

Once, a princess named Chandravati decided to go to
the Jungles to do penance and meditation. She chose
Kadali Vana for this purpose. One day, she witnessed a
miracle. A Kapila cow was standing under a Bilwa tree
and milk was flowing from all of its four udders,
sinking into the ground. The cow kept doing this as a
routine chore everyday. Chandravati dug up that area
and was dumb founded at what she saw. There was a
self-raising Swyambhu SivaLinga. It was bright and
shining like the sun rays, and looked like it was
burning, throwing flames in all directions.
Chandravati prayed to Siva in this JyotirLinga. She
built a huge Shiva Temple there. Lord Shankara was
very pleased with her. Chandravati went to Kailash
wind borne. She received salvation and Mukti. On one
of the stone-inscriptions of the temple, Chandravati’s
story can be seen carved out.

Shaila Mallikarjuna’s holy place is located on the
banks of River Krishna. Here River Krishna is in the
form of Patalaganga (underground spring). Lakhs of
devotees take a holy dip here and then go for the
Darshan of the JyotirLinga.

During the Karnataka Movement, Chatrapati Shivaji used
to come to take a Darshan of the JyotirLinga during
the Mahasivaratri. He built a tower on the right side
of the Temple and also opened a free-meal center.

The kings of the VijayaNagar Dynasty too built a
Temple, Tower, Portico and a pond. Ahelyadevi Holkar,
a great devotee of Siva built a strong bathing wharf
consisting of 852 steps on the banks of the
Patalganga.

Earlier, this part of the Shaila mountains was an
unreachable tough terrain and fraught with danger.
Even then, devotees, with their sheer will power, used
to reach there in large numbers. Hiranyakashipa,
Narada, Pandavas, Sri Ram are some of the great
mythological personalities who have visited this holy
shrine.

7. DEVOTEES EXPERIENCES:
bhargavidk@yahoo.com
1/27/2006 20:22:33 -0700

Sai Baba has been guiding our lives like mother and
father, I bhargavi fondly call him nanna. In my case
he wrote my all India exam. Actually I asked him that
I will write exam only if he bless me before the exam.
It was night 12 or one I along with my mother was in
train going to madras. A Sadhu dressed like Baba came
to our cabin and asked only me dakshina and carried a
big picture of Shiridi Baba. HE blessed me. I was sure
that I will get selected. It was Baba who wrote exam
and I got selected.

One more time I told Baba I would give him dhoti but
he has to come and receive it. One day he came to my
house as Brahmin for dakshina and asked me give me
something.  I gave him dhoti he asked for food but at
that time it was not prepared I gave him dates he ate
it and blessed both of us.

Baba has entirely changed my husband's life after he
read Baba's Satcharitra, he got his doctoral degree,
he got married to me, got post-doc in USA.

We are praying Baba for guru, Baba introduced through
our cousin sister to Sri Sri Sri Viwayogi Viswamji,
Guntur, incarnation of Lord Dattatreya. I had a doubt
whether he is my Shiridi Baba are not. One day I had a
dream in which it was a photo of Baba but the face was
Viswamji.

We were planning for child, Baba appeared in my
husband's dream, wrote a letter only the following
sentences were visible "Child, born, more money". I my
dream I saw a small boy doing Sai Bhajans. Baba
indicated that he will take birth in our house. There
are many experiences which require book.
I will post regularly.

8. SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SAI SATCHARITRA

swamymain@yahoo.com
Tue, 28 Feb 2006 23:27:50 -0800 (PST)

Sai Ram. Let us continue with the spirtual gems.

Variety in Upadesh -- Slanderer Condemned

"Sai Baba required no special place, nor any special
time for giving instructions. Whenever any occasion
demanded, He gave them freely."
Sai Ram. Baba is the Satguru and He knows when to give
what instructions in what manner.

"Once it so happened that a Bhakta of Baba, reviled
another behind his back, before other people. On
leaving aside merits, he dwelt on the faults of his
brother, and spoke so sarcastically, that the hearers
were disgusted. Generally, we see that people have a
tendency to scandalize others, un-necessarily; and
this brings on hatred and ill-will."

Sai Ram. Such behavior is ego driven. Praising also
is ego driven and if given to an undeserving person
has the effect of further spoiling him. So, either
praise or criticism must be tempered by intellect
carefully. Criticising a person behind his back is
especially bad since that person may get a much more
distorted version of what has been uttered and so the
communication process suffers further.

"Saints see scandal, in another light. They say that
there are various ways of cleansing or removing dirt,
viz. by means of earth, water and soap etc., but a
scandal-monger has got a way of his own. He removes
the dirt (faults) of others by his tongue; so in a way
obliges the person, whom he reviles and for this he is
to be thanked."

Sai Ram. If we absorb this lesson, we will not develop
ill-will toward the person. It is a difficult lesson
to learn and to practice, but is really valuable since
it prevents us from developing hatred towards that
person.

"Sai Baba had his own method of correcting the
scandal-monger. He knew by his omniscience what the
slanderer had done and when He met him at noon near
the Lendi, Baba pointed out to him a pig that was
eating filth near the fence and said to him - "Behold
how, with what relish it is gorging dung. Your conduct
is similar. You go on reviling your own brethren to
your heart's content. After performing many deeds of
merit, you are born a man, and if you act like this,
will Shirdi help you in any way?" Needless to say,
that the Bhakta took the lesson to his heart, and went
away.

Sai Ram. Baba had several such different ways of
instructing His disciples so that they progress
further on the spiritual path and eventually merge
with Him.

9. SAI WITH CHILDREN:
http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/portraits/7.jpg
Smt. Madhu Gopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad.

Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use
to play with children and used to tell stories to
them? I felt children visiting Saidarbar should be
entertained with good stories. For the last 2 years I
have told you about Lord Krishna's Leelas and Lord
Rama Story. Now I want to tell the stories what heard
in my child hood.

Two Frogs in Trouble

Once a big fat frog and a lively little frog were
hopping along together when they had the misfortune of
jumping into a pail of fresh milk. They swam for hours
and hours hoping to get out somehow; but the sides of
the pail were steep and slippery and death seemed to
be certain.

When the big frog was exhausted he lost courage. There
seemed no hope of rescue. “Why keep struggling against
the inevitable? I cannot swim any longer.” He moaned.
“Keep on! Keep on!” urged the little frog, who was
still circling the pail. So they went on for a while.
But the big frog decided it was no use. “Little
brother, We may as well give up” he gasped. “I am
going to quit struggling.”

Now only the little frog was left. He thought to
himself. “Well, to give up is to be dead, so I will
keep swimming.” Two more hours passed and the tiny
legs of the determined little frog were almost
paralysed with exhaustion. It seemed as if he could
not keep moving for another minute. But he thought of
his dead friend, and repeated, “To give up is to be
meat for someone’s table, so I’ll keep paddling on
until I die – if death is to come – but I will not
cease trying – while there is life, there is hope.”

Immortal Saint of Shirdi

In Bhagvadgita (Chapter IV, 7-8) Lord Krishna says
"Whenever there is a decay of Dharma (righteousness)
and an ascendancy of unrighteousness, I manifest
Myself, and for the protection of the virtuous, the
destruction of the vicious and for the establishment
of righteousness, I manifest Myself in age after age."
This is the mission of Lord, and the Sages and Saints,
who are His representatives appear at proper times and
try to set matters right by their words and action,
thus showing us the right path to follow. In this way,
many saints like Jnanadev, Muktabai, Tukaram, Ramdas,
did appear at various times to show the right path to
the people, and so came Lord Sainath of Shirdi.  The
fourteenth Nama in one hundred eight Glorious Names of
Sainath Maharaj is "Om Sri Sai Amarthyaya Namaha"
Meaning - Pranavaswarupa Oh Sainath! Obeisance to you
who is immortal.

We further glorify Sai in Ashttotrasatha Namavali
"Kalatheethaya Namaha, Kaalaya Namaha, Kaalakaalaya
Namaha." It means He has transcended the limitations
of Time, Himself Time and Lord of Eternity. Baba
declared, "I am not the body or the senses, I am
Sakshi (Witness)"      Sainath though left His mortal
coils on Oct. 15th, 1918, He continues to remain in
His subtle form (Sukshma Sareera) with the option of
taking stable or visible form at will. Immediately
after giving up His body Baba showed to the world
through the following incidents that He is alive but
His body is dead. Baba appeared in the dream of Laxman
Mama Joshi on Oct. 16, 1918 and said, "Get up soon,
Bapusaheb thinks I am dead and so he won't come, you
do the worship and the Kakad Arathi." He appeared in
the dream of Dasganu Maharaj on Oct. 16, 1918 at
Pandharpur, informed of the event, and said that he
should cover His body with ample flowers. Thus, Baba
in His own mysterious way maintained the continuity of
daily Pujas and Arathis as usual.

15.      EDITORIAL.

Things impressed me from this Magazine:

The hasty decisions and actions may give temporary
benefits but in the long run it will show the bad
affects. So a wise person should think about long
range benefits and act.

A good person will always show gratitude for the small
help he received from the fellow human beings. A bad
person even though he was saved by his fellow human
beings, will never be grateful to the persons, who
have helped him. So it is our duty to help the good
and deserving person.

If the ruler of the state is not having good advisors
then it is the first sign of the deteriorating
administration in the state.
