Sri Sai Amrit Vani

Sri Sai Amrit Vani
13th July 2006

DEVOTEES MAY FORWARD THIS LETTER TO
THEIR FRIEND AND OTHER DEVOTEES.

Jai Sai Ram
Following is the list of devotees, who
participated in absencia in the recitation of Sri Sai
Amrit Vani by reciting Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their
places. The list is sorted as per their email ids.
However Mrs. Gupta prayed for all the devotees. We
include all those devotees only in the list, who
themselves recite Sri Sai Amrit Vani. The names of the
devotees "for prayer", are prayed for but not included
in the list. Kindly mention clearly, against each
devotee's name that he/she will recite or read or
listen to Sri Sai Amrit Vani, and the name of the
place.

This entire week was full of
activities. On Sunday the 9th July we were invited to
a birthday party of our old neighbors, Before lunch
the host wanted to pray to Baba and to have the Noon
Aartee. As soon as we entered the room in which the
mandir was there we noticed the Udi was already oozing
from the photo which Mrs. Gupta had gifted to her some
time ago. Jai Sai Ram.

On Tuesday the 11th July it was Guru
Poornima, but Baba started blessing from two photos on
the wall from Monday itself . On Tuesday Udi was
oozing from all the photos and the statue from which
Udi comes on Thursdays. Even the Water was oozing

from the Charans and the plate had to be placed below it.
Although Mrs. Gupta was not having any public function
but still many devotees came to take the blessings
from Baba. In Shirdi also, this Guru Poornima is
observed for three days and this time it was from
Monday to Wednesday. So we were having continuously
Udi from Baba from Monday till Thursday.

Coming to this Thursday the 13th July, we
were able to see the following Leelas of Baba.

1. Udi started appearing and oozing from the photos on
the walls from Monday morning and in the mandir from
Tuesday. The day of Guru Poornima. As usual the words
formed with Udi were again 'RAM' and 'SHAM' 'OM' and
Trishool.
2. OM was formed along with the word RAM with Udi
this week on the photo were swastic and onkar and OM
used to form .
3. Bhiksha Patra in one photo contained one OM formed
with Udi.
4. There was lot of Water from the Charans this week
also. This water was collected in the plate. The
taste of water was similar to gulab jal and kewara.
After Sai Amrit Vani, this water was given to the
needy devotees and again the plate was filled with
water. This water was taken out of plate 3-4 time
throughout the day and was given to devotees till
evening. On one occasion it was overflowing and fell
on the papers below the plate. In the evening all the
papers had to be changed.
5. On Thursday as soon as Bhog was offered, it was
duly accepted by Baba and after the Sri Sai Amrit
Vani we noticed that the box, which was placed
before HIM was more than half empty with eaten and
only partly remained pieces of items in the box, Only
small pieces of items were left in the box this time.
Part of Bhog was on the lips of many photos and
statue of Baba. These parts of the remains in the box
were given to the devotees who offered that item of
bhog to Baba. The piece of burfee was having the
figure of Baba on it. Some pieces of other sweets had
also fallen on it and with this image of Baba was very
clear. I took the photo of this piece of burfee and
the same is appended with this letter.
6. All the boxes of Bhog which were kept on the table
were blessed with Udi,
7. Besides Mrs. Gupta many devotees also had Udi in
their Laps and books of Sri Sai Amrit Vani.
8. Many devotees felt the presence of Baba during the
recitation of Sai Amrit Vani in different ways.
9. The Charnamrit, the water in which Baba took the
bath in the morning was also sweet as if some honey
has been mixed into it.
10. The whole atmosphere was full of fragrance.
11. Photos, Statue and the important papers of
devotees, which were place before Baba by Mrs. Gupta
were blessed with Udi within no time.
12. One Sai Satcharitra was placed before Baba by Mrs
Gupta which was to be gifted to one devotee was
blessed with Udi on it and between the pages also. In
the evening also Mrs Gupta gave on Sai Satcharitra to
one devotee which was also blessed by Baba instantly.

Satsang Thought for the day

Once there was a rich man. But not even once in his life
had he done any charity. One day, he felt a sudden urge to
do some "dana". He decided to give gold small pieces to
poor people everyday. Unfortunately, he told his wife about
his intention. She said, "My beloved one, instead of giving
small pieces, you can give a larger quantity of gold, by
gathering all the pieces.

The rich man accepted her words as divine mantras.
Hence from that day onwards, he started to gather the
golden pieces. He decided to make them into a big golden
ball and then give it away before his death. Years rolled
on and he collected a good many small pieces, which he
made into a golden ball and kept it inside his pillow.

All of a sudden, one day, he fell ill and his condition
became quite serious. He could not even move his hands.
His tongue lost its power and he could not speak. He
hi-cupped and the sputum blocked his throat. He
understood that death was near and resented very much
for not performing the cherished 'dana' already.

He said to himself "Atleast now I should do the thing". But
he couldn't even speak out what he was thinking. He could
not move his hands and take the gold ball out of the pillow.
He tried to remind his wife of their resolve.

Collecting all his energy, he showed by signs to his wife,
"As we had discussed earlier, I have made a gold ball with
the pieces of gold intended for giving in charity daily. The
ball is now inside the pillow. Now, my end has come. But
I have no strength to take it out and give it to the needy
people. Without making any further delay, you please take

it out and give it in charity".

The wife understood what her husband meant. But she
thought, "My husband is going to die soon. There is no
surety that my children will take care of me, after they
grow. So now is the time for me to act intelligently. I will
not give the golden ball in charity now. Rather I can keep
it with me until my lifetime. That is the only safety for my life".

Her two sons standing nearby could not understand what
their father wanted to convey by his signs. The younger one
asked his mother, "Mother, Father shows signs of a ball,
what he wants to say?"

The mother did not want to tell him the truth. She said, "Son,
before you were born, we regularly took wood-apple fruit, and
we both liked it. He used to bring the fruit and I would mix it
with sugar and give it to him. Now also he wants that fruit".

The elder son said, "Mother, it is our duty to fulfill the last
wish of our father. So, we shall bring the fruit". He started
with his younger brother. It was not the season for that fruit.
However after a great deal of searching the boys found out a
wood-apple tree. But a new problem cropped up. None of
them knew how to climbing a tree. They stood below worrying
how to pluck the fruits. They were sad.

A few monkeys were living in that tree. Imitating the two boys
they also mocked at them by putting up a sad appearance.
On seeing that, the younger brother got an idea, "Brother, the
monkeys show sad faces like us. Let us throw a stone at
them. In return, the monkeys will hit us with those fruits".

Immediately they picked up a stone each and threw them at
the monkeys. The monkeys like very much to imitate the
actions of human-beings. Immediately they plucked the fruits
from the tree and threw them at the boys. The sons picked
up the fruits and ran to their mother.

She took the pulp from the fruits, mixed it with sugar and gave
it to her husband. The husband was already suffering with
sputum blocking his throat and he couldn't speak. But just to
save the gold, the wife compelled her husband to eat that fruit.
Due to her compulsion, he also had to eat it.

It is a well known fact that anyone who takes that fruit too
much, while suffering with cold and sputum has to die. This
is a common truth. It became true in the matter of that rich
man also. He died.

This is a Jain story. What do we understand from this?

Good things are to be done immediately, because we don't
know whether tomorrow belongs to us or to the God of Death.

The thing that we want to do on a future day should be done
tomorrow itself. That, which we intend to do tomorrow should
be done today itself. Finally what we intend to do today
should be carried out now itself. In Sanskrit they say -
Subhasya Seegram.

Satsang A BRIEF LIFE SKETCH OF GURUDEV H. H. NARASIMHA SWAMIJI

SRI NARASIMHA SWAMIJI'S SAI-PRACHAR

Sri B.V. Narasimha Swamiji felt, how important it was to
spread the spiritual life and message of Baba throughout
our country. So, he looked for the biography on Baba. He
got Dasganu Maharaja's 'Sai Leelamrit' in Marathi, 'Glimpses
of Spirituality' by Raobahadur M.W. Pradhan and also 'Sai
Satcharita' in verse in Marathi, written by Annasaheb Dabholkar.

His first publication 'Who is Sai Baba' was released in 1939.
His next work 'Wondrous Saint' has been translated into
Telugu, Hindi, Bengali and Gujrathi. 'Charters and Sayings
by Narasimha Swamiji' came out next with a foreword by
Baba's ankita child justice M. B. Rege. The author's next
work was 'Gospel of Sri Sai Baba', which had been translated
into Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malyalam. Swamiji composed
hymns in Sanskrit, entitled 'Sri Sainath Smaranam', which
was translated into Tamil and English. In 1944, Swamiji wrote
a play in seven acts in Tamil, entitled 'Sri Sai Charita
Natakam'. Swamiji also wrote 'Sri Sai Harikalha' to
popularise Sai-movement through kalakshepam (musical
discourse).

Sri Narasimha Swamiji commenced his great task of writing
a detailed biography of Sri Sai Baba in English. The first two
volumes were published in March, 1943 and July, 1956
respectively. Although the manuscripts were ready for volume
III and volume IV, these two came out as posthumous works
in 1957 and 1969. 'Glimpses of Sai Baba' by Narasimha

Swamiji was published in 1945. In addition to these, he
published many other books on Sai Baba, many of which have
been translated into many Indian languages, like Tamil, Telugu,
Marathi etc.

It became necessary to formulate a systematic way of
conducting Sai worship. So, Swamiji wrote 'Sri Sainath Pooja
Vidhi' and 'Sai Sahasranamam' in addition to the ashtotaram,
already in use and practice. This is published in Sanskrit,
Tamil, Telugu and Canareese.

CONVENTIONS : Swamiji thought of holding an All India Sai
Devotees' convention. It became necessary for a conference
to be held, in which the devotees from all Sai Samajas can
participate. This conference held annually or once in two or
three years, would discuss problems and measures to
strengthen and expand Sai-movcmcnt. The president of the
All India Sai Samaj was elected the president of the
reception committee. The First All India Sai Devotees'
convention was organised for four days from 16lh May to
19th May, 1946 at P. S. High School, Mylapore, Madras.
Two hundred delegates and a large number of local devotees
attended the convention. Proceedings opened daily with
archana and pooja to" Sri Sainath Maharaj. Sri Martand,
son of late Sri Mhalsapali attended the convention. Poojya
Sri Narasimha Swamiji, founded president, All India Sai
Samaj and many others, like Sri Kesavaiahji of Shenoy
Nagar, Madras and Martand spoke on various aspects of
Baba, His teachings etc., in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
Delegates discussed activities and problems of their
upasamajas and samajas. Delegates and many participants
of the convention narrated their experiences as Sai devotees.
The cultural programme of the convention included devotional

music, Sai Harikatha in Tamil and Telugu drama, depicting
the life of Baba.

Bow to Sri Sai Peace be to all

Satsang TARKHAD FAMILY by Lt.Col.M.B.Nimbalkar

The second incident in regarding the tiger described in
Ch. XXXI. Jyotindra says once after that incident Baba asked
him, "Bhau! Do you know what the tiger was asking from me?"
Jyotindra replied, "How do I know'.' I had seen you both staring
at each other for some time but what communication you two
had I do not know." Thereupon Baba said, "The tiger was asking

for Mukti (liberation or final beatitude) and I promptly gave it to
him." Hemadpant also while describing this incident in Marathi
Shri Sai Satcharita has rightly said :

"In previous life perhaps, this tiger was a virtuous person. But
trying to show off learnedness, happened to insult a great devotee
and due to that devotee's curse was born in this cruel form. Now
having reached the feet of Shri Sai Baba, the curse got mitigated,
the sins burnt to ashes, the bonds released and the tiger was
emancipated automatically."

It was sometime end of 1917 or early 1918, Baba was asking
the devotees gathered round Him as to
what they wanted since perhaps His end was nearing. Some

asked for a son, some wealth and some recovery from diseases.
Jyotindra said, "I do not want anything." Baba said, "Bhau! This
is our last meeting. Ask something. Whatever you ask I shall
give you." Still Jyotindra continued to say "No", But Baba
continued to press inncessantly, so ultimately Jyotindra said,
"Alright Baba! If You insist I shall ask, but then You will have to
give in. Then You cannot refuse." Baba said, "Yes", and then
Jyotindra said, "Baba! Next birth You may give to me in any form
- man, beast or even an insect - but in that birth I must meet You
again." Hearing this, Baba said, "No! This is not possible. You are
trying to bind me for a future birth." Then Jyotindra replied, "Why
have You then promised to fulfill my demand'.' Now You cannot go
back on Your promise." At last Baba said, "O.K. Your wish will be
fulfilled. We both will be eating from the same dish in the next birth."

There is no reason to disbelieve this statement regarding Baba
taking another birth. In the introduction to Marathi Sai Satcharita
by Hemadpant, late Kakasaheb Dixit has stated that once Shri
Sai Baba had mentioned to him that though He would go now, He
would come again in this world as a boy of eight years.

Jyotindra later on got married and had a number of children also.
He did fulfill all his worldly responsibilities properly but his attention
and interest mainly was towards spiritual matters. Sai Baba was
his be all and end all place of worship. At last in 1965 on Monday
in the holy month of Shravan, he left this world in great peace and
satisfaction with Sai-nam on his lips. Indeed great was Jyotindra's
devotion and great was his fortune to be greatly blessed by Sai.

Now this incident was seen by a villager, and he suspected
that Baba was trying to give something valuable to Jyotindra
out of the ditch. So in the darkness of the night he went to
the place with a pick-axe and dug the hole again. With great
eagerness he placed his hand in the ditch and started looking
into it. And lo! To his misfortune a big scorpion stung him
severely. The villager threw the pick-axe there and ran back

shouting in pain. Next morning also the poison did not subside.
So he went to the Masjid and bowing down to Baba prayed for
relief. Baba applied udi and the pain subsided immediately.
Then Baba said, "You fool! Laxmi comes only to those who
deserve it."

During Baba's life-time, Jyotindra used to visit Shirdi quite often.
Two incidents narrated in Shri Sai Satcharita. Jyotindra had seen
with his own eyes and his descriptions of the same are worth
hearing. As mentioned in Ch. XI, when in Shirdi, there was a
terrible storm, the winds began to blow forcibly, the clouds began
to roar loudly, the lightning began to flash incessantly and the
rains began to descend in torrents, Jyotindra was present. At
that time to protect the villagers and the cattle gathered there,
Baba standing on the edge of the Masjid, shouted repeatedly
at the storm in loud and thunderous voice to subside and be
calm. Jyotindra had heard these shouts and he says that
everytime Baba's shouts were louder than those of the clouds.
It was a battle between two great powers and ultimately Baba's
power won. In few minutes the rains subsided, the winds
ceased to blow and the storm came to a stop.

Satsang Chapter 31 :Sri_Sai_Sat_Charitra_Concise(Version)

Om Shree Ganeshaya Namah
Om Sai Ram
Chapter 31 :::
Abhaya at the time of death

Lord Krishna says that the thought that one entertains at the moment

of death shapes his after life state. Our omnnscient Baba will guide
his devotees appropriately when their hour for depature comes.

*On his way to the pilgrimage of Mansarovar, Saint Vijyananda from

Madras came to Shirdi. There, on hearing from Somadev Swamy the
various hurdles on the Himalayan route to Mansarovar, he abandonned
his planned trip. When he came for Baba's darshan He shouted: " Kick
this good for nothing sanyasi out! His association is fruitless." The
saint anyway stayed back. When he got a letter from Madras that his
mother's condition was serious, he came to baba seeking permission
to leave Shirdi. Baba who knew the past and future of all said thus:
" Why did you take to sanyas if you have such strong attachment to
your mother? Your past store of good deeds are immense and hence
you came here. There are lots of theives in the Wada. You are to be
their first prey. Be alert.

"Perform three saptah of the Srimad Bhagwatam . You will get peace."
The saint took up saptah (reading in 7 days) of Bhagwatam. He
completed two rounds. During the course of the third saptah he laid
his head on the lap of Bade Baba and breathed his last.
*Baba advised Balaram Mangar to go to Machendra Ghat and practice

meditation.Mangar felt that Baba was banishing him from Shirdi. One
day Baba appeared in flesh and blood before Mangar at Machendra
Ghat and said : " You think that I am in Shirdi alone. Now find out
yourself whether I am just a man of three and a half cubits." So saying
He vanished in to thin air. Later when Mangar was desperate to get
rail ticket from Pune to Dadar, a nomad wearing only a loincloth came
to him unsolicited , gave a ticket to Dadar and without taking money
vanished. Who could be that nomad except Baba? *Noolkar, Magistrate
of Pandharpur vowed himself that he would go to Baba's darshan only
whe he got a good brahmin cook and nice Nagpur oranges to be
offered to Baba. That very night a cook came to him and also a basket
full of Nagpur oranges. The sender of the oranges remained mysterious.
Till his end , Noolkar remained at Shirdi. When his hour came, vedas
were recited and holy water used for washing Baba's feet was poured
in to his mouth.
*Seven days before the mahasamadhi of Baba ,an ailing tiger was
brought up the steps of masjid to the holy presence of Baba. Baba
looked at his eyes and the tiger swilled its tail, struck the floor thrice
with that and breathed his last instantly.

Satsang TARKHAD FAMILY by Lt.Col.M.B.Nimbalkar

We all know how Das Ganu used to compose and perform
kirtans (celebrating praises of God and saints with music and
singing) without accepting any money. Once he was invited to
do so in a small out-of-the-way village near Shirdi. When Das
Ganu went to Baba to ask for permission, Baba said.
"'take Aye and bhau with you." So Das Ganu went to the village
with Mrs. Tarkhad and Jyotindra. In the evening when the kirtan
was going on, some aboriginals happened to pass thereby with
a dead body. Seeing the kirtan going on they hailed, placing the
bier (bamboo frame for burning the corpse in the burning ghat) on
the ground in front. Then suddenly their leader perhaps had a
brainwave and he said to Das Ganu, "You are extolling the powers
of saints. Let us see if your saints can re-live this dead man of
ours. Only then we will believe your words." Das Ganu almost

trembled with fear and was nonplussed. Looking at Jyotindra
questioningly he said. "Raosaheb! What should we do now?"
Then both of them decided to continue the kirtan and Sai Baba's
nam-gajar (non-stop recitation of Sai-nam), in between. Slowly
the kirtan developed a great form and even the aboriginals started
singing. Then suddenly a miracle occurred. The dead body started
moving. The man on the bier broke open the rope and got up.
Smiling on the bier, he started clappin his hands in tune with the
bhajan going on. Everybody was highly pleased in wonder and
they shouted "Victory to Shri Sai Baba."

Thus not only Das Ganu's prestige was saved but the danger to
his life and to that of those accompanying him was also averted
due to the grace of Shri Sai Baba. Who knows if Das Ganu had
not succeeded, the aboriginals might have beaten up or even
killed Das Ganu and company.
Once Sai Baba took Jyotindra to a lonely place and there
removing some earth made a small ditch and asked Jyotindra to
look into it. Jyotindra saw there-in bright shining gold and told
Baba accordingly. Baba said, "Take it. It is all yours." Jyotindra
replied. "I don't want it." Baba said, "I am giving it to you."
Jyotindra said, "But I don't want it. I do not come to Shirdi for
this. It is poison." Then Baba said. "One should not disrespect
Laxmi the Goddess of wealth, when she comes on her own. She

gets angry and never comes again." Still Jtotindra did not change
his mind and replied, "Does not matter. I do not want this poison."
Thereupon Baba filled up the ditch and retumed to Masjid with
Jyotindra.
