Satsang SAI BABA AND FOOD

Sai Baba's ideas must be on the same lines probably. That is
why He never advised His devotees to give up non-veg food.
Sometimes jokingly as in Ch. 38, He used to ask an orthodox
Brahmin, like Dada Kelkar to go and buy mutton from the market
or as in Ch. 23, His order to His great Brahmin devotee
Kakasaheb Dixit to kill a goat with a knife.

But, this was only to test their readiness to execute, whatever
order given by Him, their Guru; and, therefore, before the person
started acting, He used to stop them. Similarly, to the devotees,
in whose religion or caste only veg-food, was in vogue, He never
tempted or encouraged to eat non-veg food. Baba's method of
resisting His devotees from eating non-veg food was quite different
and unique. He oft and on used to tell His devotees that He was
present in every creature, moving about. In Ch. 9 to Mrs. Tarkhad
He said,

"The dog, which you saw before meals and to which you gave the
piece of bread, is one with Me; so, also the other creatures (cats,
pigs, flies, cows etc.) are one with Me. I am roaming in their forms.
He, who sees Me in all these creatures, is my beloved. So, abandon
the sense of duality and distinction and serve Me as you did today."

Once, one is thoroughly convinced of this idea, who will dare to eat
non-veg food? Will it not be given up automatically? Thus, Sai Baba
also preached 'nonviolence' in food, but in a very realistic, practical
and tactful manner.

ONION

What applies to non-veg food also applies to onion. Sai Baba, Himself,
used to eat onion with bread daily and did not like anybody expressing
disgust towards it or not eating it; because of its bad smell. His
incidents of teasing and ridiculing Dada Kelkar, Das Ganu and Kusha
Bhau are well-known. He also once surprised a student of yoga by
eating bread and onion in front of him and later gave a proof to him of
His Super Yogic Powers. As if Sai Baba wanted to tell people that,
because of baseless customs and beliefs, you are depriving yourself
of onion and garlic, which are greatly praised by the ayurveda (Indian
medical science) and are excellent health-giving foods. Isn't the poor
and hard-working farmer able to perform labourous task of ploughing
his field by eating bread and onion only? If a person faints, a crushed
onion is the quickest and simplest first-aid in the far off villages.
Recently, the western countries, after research, have declared garlic
as excellent cure for heart disease and high blood pressure and since
then we Indians have started buying costly tablets (Lasona) containing
essence of garlic.

FASTING
Other important advice of Sai Baba concerning food was that of fasting.

Sai Baba never kept a fast Himself, nor did He allow others to do so.
In Ch. 32, Mrs. Gokhale wanted to keep a fast for 3 days at Shirdi; but
Baba asked her to go to Dada Kelkar's house to cook, as Kaka's wife
was in menses and not permitted by custom to cook. Further, He not
only ordered her to feed Kaka and his family members with sumptuous
and delicious 'puran polies' (sweet-stuffed breads) but asked her to feed
herself also to heart's content by giving up the fast.

Sri Sai Amrit Vani

Sri Sai Amrit Vani
3rd Aug 2006

Jai Sai Ram

Firstly Thanks for the wishes sent by
our well wishers on the birthday of Mrs Veena Gupta on
2nd August. Baba Blessed her with honey on that day. 2
Photos of Baba, of that day I have already sent to the
group. In the evening Baba was fully cleaned by giving
a bath and honey was collected. Baba can not be made
to sleep in the pool of honey.

Following devotees, participated in
absencia in the recitation of Sri Sai Amrit Vani by
reciting Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places. The list
is sorted as per their email ids. However Mrs. Gupta
prayed for all the devotees. We include only those
devotees in the list, who themselves recite or read
Sri Sai Amrit Vani at their places. The names of the
devotees "for prayer", are prayed for, but not
included in the list. Kindly mention clearly, against
each devotee's name that he/she will recite or read or
listen to Sri Sai Amrit Vani, or only for prayers,
Please also give the name of the place.

Again on Thursday the 3rd Aug. Honey
started oozing from the same statue as soon as Mrs.
Gupta started her pooja.

This Thursday the 3rd Aug , we were able
to see the following Leelas of Baba.

1. Udi started appearing and oozing from the five
photos on the walls from Monday morning. Hindi words
'RAM' and 'SHAM' 'OM' and Trishool were clear.
Papers were placed below the photos, but the Udi did
not fall on the papers on Monday . On Tuesday it
started to fall and by evening Udi started to ooze
from the statue and photos in the mandir. It was one
day advance, may be because of the birthday of Mrs.
Gupta on Wednesday the 2nd Aug.
2. Honey started to ooz from the little Statue of Baba
as soon as Mrs. Gupta started her pooja and she had to
put Baba in a bowl. The honey was much more in
quantity than yesterday and we could see the drops
falling from the toe of HIS right foot.
3. Bhiksha Patra in one photo contained one large
piece of burfee which was offered to HIM in bhog.
4. On one photo it was again Swastic and OM.
5. There was lot of Water from the Charans this week
also. This water was collected in the Thali. The
taste of water was similar to gulab jal and kewara.
After Sai Amrit Vani, this water was given to the
needy devotees and again the Thali was filled with
water. This water was taken out of Thali 3-4 time
throughout the day and was given to devotees till
evening. Once Mrs. Gupta got delayed in empting the
Thali and the water simply overflown the thali and
spill over all the papers below the thali. All the
papers had to be changed in the evening.
6. Lap of Mrs. Gupta was filled with Udi during the
prayers. She feels very light when Udi came in her
lap.
7. On Thursday as soon as Bhog was offered, it was
duly accepted by Baba and after the Sri Sai Amrit
Vani we noticed that the box, which was placed
before HIM was more than half empty with eaten and
only partly remained pieces of items in the box, Part
of Bhog was on the lips of many photos and statue of
Baba. These parts of the remains in the box were
given to the devotees who offered that item of bhog to
Baba.
8. All the boxes of Bhog which were kept on the table
were blessed with Udi,
9. Many devotees felt the presence of Baba during the
recitation of Sai Amrit Vani in different ways.
10. The Charnamrit, the water in which Baba took the
bath in the morning was also sweet as if some honey
has been mixed into it.

Jai Sai Ram

Sri Sai Amrit Vani was started
exactly at 11:04 AM and Noon Aartee exactly at 12:00
Hrs. followed by brief Meditation and the prayer,
Prayan of one Chapter from Sai Satcharitra. This time
Chapter 3 was read. Meaning of the last Stanza of noon
Aartee was explained by Mrs. Gupta. Prayers and
thanks were offered by Mrs. Gupta to Baba. Finally
distribution of Prasad, Udi and the water from the
Charans.

On 17th August we will be in Chandigarh and
so on that day Sri Sai Amrit Vani will be held at
Sector 9, Chandigarh and not at Sidhartha extension,

Satsang SAI BABA AND FOOD

SAI BABA AND FOOD
(SHRI SAI LEELA SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 1993)
By Lt. Col. M. B. Nimbalkar (Retd.)

Sai Baba in His teachings had given great shocks to then current
customs and beliefs. His teachings, especially those about food,
were quite revolutionary and reformatory; but of course very correct
and truly beneficial.
NON-VEG FOOD
In our Hindu and Jain, Buddha religions especially, there is a belief

that unless one gives up eating non-vegetarian food, one cannot
attain emancipation or knowledge of the Supreme Spirit. Sai Baba
Himself was an emancipated soul and had full knowledge of the
Supreme Spirit and was capable of giving such experiences to
others. However, He not only had no objection to non-veg food; but
never insisted that His devotees, used to non-veg food, should give
it up. Actually, in His early days, He used to cook non-veg food
Himself in a big pot and after consecrating it through a Moulvi by
reciting fatia, used to send as prasad to Mhalsapati and Tatya
Kote Patil before distributing to others. (Ch. 38, Shri Sai Satcharita).

There might be two reasons for this. One could be that Sai Baba
for His mission of achieving unity amongst Hindus and Muslims,
had adorned Muslim Fakir type of dress and style of living. Hence,
accepting non-veg food was quite appropriate. Secondly, if we
carefully consider the teachings of our scriptures, it will be clear
that not to eat non-veg food is only one of the means to attain
emancipation or knowledge of the Supreme Spirit and not a goal
in itself. Most of the famous suktas in Vedas have been authored
by kshatriya or warrior caste. Sages such as Vishwamitra, kings
like Janaka, who were famous as Brahma-jnani or knowcr of the
Supreme Spirit, were also of warrior caste and non-veg food was
not taboo for them. To give up non-veg food, to avoid killing of
innocent animals for the sake of one's enjoyment of tasty food
or because non-veg food becomes hindrance in achieving
concentration of mind during meditation by increasing attributes
of passion (Rajo-guna) and ignorance (Tamo-guna), is of course
commendable.

But, to say that without avoiding non-veg food one cannot achieve
emancipation or knowledge of the Supreme Spirit is not correct.

Otherwise great seers, like Mohammed Paigamber and Jesus
Christ in other religions, where non-veg food is normally consumed,
would not have been born at all. Moreover in India, do those castes
and communities do not take non-vcg food, do so because they
believe in the principle of .non-injury or not to allow the attributes
of passions and ignorance to increase? They are vegetarians;
because it is customary in their castes for generations, not to

eat non-veg food. These persons have never tasted non-veg food;
and hence they have disgust or aversion to such food. However,
now-a-days, young men and women of these castes, having tasted
it, have started enjoying it in restaurants and hotels. Similarly,
amongst those having vegetarian food also, fried items, full of
pepper and condiments and difficult to digest sweets, although
adhering to the principle of non-injury, do tend to increase
attributes of passion and ignorance, which arc obstacles for

concentration in meditation.

In fact, as a person progresses in his sadhana, his attraction for
non-veg and rich food automatically gets dwindled and is ultimately
lost permanently. Just because one gives up eating meat, fish and
eggs as a result of attending bhajun-melas or visiting temples in old
age, he does not attend eminence amongst the sadhakas. On one
side to give up non-veg food and on the other side to get upset and
get tempted looking at such food or to eat heavy and rich veg food
or in business dealings not to hesitate to rob or cheat a person or
to drive away even by hitting cows and buffalos or birds! Isn't such
vegetarianism useless?

Satsang The Miracle of Sai Baba's Udi

After prostrating on His Lotus feet and garlanding His Portraits
at Dwarka Mai and Chaudi, I came to Samadhi Mandir for
'ABHISHEK' and to attend the noon arti.

No sooner the noon arti was finished, at Samadhi Mandir, I
retired to my room with a mind to get up at 4 pm or 4.30 pm
to go to Dwarka Mai for reading the religious books at His
Lotus feet. But some unknown force woke me up at about
3.00 pm, and directed me to get ready and go to Dwarka Mai.
It was about 3 30 pm when I reached at the 'Sacred Place'
where I was asked by the 'Blessed Attendant' to serve Baba
by cleaning and wiping His two portraits and five Padukas,
which adore the holy shrine. My joy knew no bounds, while
serving Baba this way, since I never expected this service
to come at that hour. The privilege to serve Baba this way,

was just due to His kind mercy showered upon me.

After rendering this service to Baba at Dwarka Mai, I bowed
before Him and started reading the religious books named
SAI-CHALISA - DURGA CHALISA - HANUMAN- CHALISA
AND SHRI SAI SATCHARITRA. The Maharaj (who looks
after chaudi Mandir) came unexpectedly from somewhere
and saw me with a book named 'Incredible Sai Baba' by

Mr. Arthur Osborne. On seeing this book, he sat next to
me and started discussing various miracles and leelas
performed by Baba, as narrated by Mr, Arthur Osborne, in
his book.

During the discussion, I heard myself saying to him 'who
says Baba is dead. He is still alive. His body has only been
merged with holy earth, which has to be since He was in
human form. He is on the planet guiding our destiny. He is
omnipotent, Incarnate, never dies. Dwarka Mai is the place
where one should come first to pay his respects, since this
Sacred Soil has been blessed by Him, all His life. From
this place, He blessed His devotees to achieve their spiritual
as well as materialistic goal. This entire place is surcharged
with His 'Divine Fragrance and reminds His devotees, the
memories of His past leelas'. While expressing these
sentiments to Maharaj, I turned my eyes towards His
Padukas and saw that the entire Padukas had been smeared
with Udi. I could not understand this phenomena of Nature at

that time. But it did coincide with the arrival of two devotees,
who whispered between themselves in Marathi, and left the
shrine. Later on, Maharaj translated the same to me, which
reads as follows :

'Look, at Baba's Padukas. with Udi' How beautifully they are
smeared After their departure, no devotee came to this holy
shrine for darshan for another ten to fifteen minutes, though
usually this place is always filled with a number of devotees
Probably, Baba with His Bizzari way did not permit any of
the devotees to enter in Dwarka Mai, since the sacred Udi
which was miraculously smeared on His Padukas was only
meant for me. At 4-55 pm, I suggested to Maharaj to go to
Chaudi and sit there for a while On getting up, he drew my
attention to the sacred Udi smeared so scientifically on the
Padukas {looking as snowed) which a short while ago, my

hands had the privilege of cleaning and washing. It appeared
that the whole of that Udi will make a good quantity, but when
it was collected by Maharaj, it turned out to be just a pinch.
It was brownish in colour and glittering like a diamond with its
divine lustre. It was Baba's Prasad for me, in appreciation of
my ardent faith bestowed in His Omnipresence. I now wear
as an armlet filled with this precious, holy of holy, and most
sacred Udi which sanctifies my thoughts, kindles my day to

day's darkened path and guides my destiny. It inspires me
to cherish the desire of my life's goal and fills my heart with
reverence. The very thought that He is associated with my
destiny enriches the aura of my life with His divine fragrance.

Satsang The Miracle of Sai Baba's Udi

The Miracle of Sai Baba's Udi
By:- Mahesh Chandra Srivastava
Inscrutable are the ways of Providence To get the blessings of

choicest Heaven is the rare bliss.

Since October, 1973, I have the privilege of enjoying Baba's
blessings in various ways and find Him guiding my darkened path,
everyday, specially when I am in difficulty. Whenever my thoughts
go to Him, irrespective of where I am, I find His Photograph, before
me, conveying His blessings.

A day earlier, than the fall of KOJAGIRI POORNIMA, It was
Wednesday and I was bound for Shirdi the very night. At 10 .30 AM,
a thought came to my mind that while at Shirdi, I should buy a silver
ring with 'Baba's Emblem' over it. At about 1.30 PM, the same day,
I called on a friend of mine, who deals in Diamonds, with a mind to
have lunch with him and also to inform him of my intending visit to
Shirdi, since I would not be able to see him for a couple of days.
After finishing the lunch, he got up and at his own accord, came out
with an offer of a Platinum ring with 'Baba's Emblem' over it. The
ring could be classed as one of the rarest mould of its kind. Even

after spending a fortune, I could not have made this precious ring.
It has got a beautiful emblem of Baba in 'Gold' on it, and is made
of platinum, silver and a couple of other hardening metals. The
ring consists of five elements which is supposed to be 'THE
MOST SACRED'. Since Baba never wanted me to wear a silver
ring, that is why, He arranged, its presentation to fulfil my
thoughts.

My friend was just an instrument in its presentation, since this
ring came to him from someone Though this friend of mine used
to meet me everyday for the past one month or so, still the
thought of presenting this sacred ring came to his mind only that
day, when Baba wanted my desire to be cherished. My friend
made this offer of his own accord. With the ring on my finger,
Baba brought me to His Lotus feet on 'KOJAGIRI POORNIMA'
day which luckily was Thursday, at His shrine at Shirdi.

But the miracle that I am going to narrate to my brother devotees,
has its own significance and characteristic meaning. It has brought
a great change in my life and has left a rich imprint on my mind,
which no word can express. lam overwhelmed with His benign
blessings which He has been gracious enough to shower upon
this humble self.

On the morning of 23rd February, 1974, I reached the holy place,
named Shirdi with my few friends, all intending to stay together.
Somehow, on reaching Shirdi, I decided to stay separately, and
I did. After finishing the morning rituals, I went to my friend's
place with a mind to go with them to 'Maha Samadhi Mandir' for
ABHISHEK. Since they were not ready, I told them to meet me
at Samadhi Mandir, where I would be awaiting them. While
buying garlands for Baba, a vibration came to my mind as if Baba
was instructing me in person, saying "Go to Dwarka Mai first,
then to Chaudi and then to Samadhi Mandir. I am still alive.

Ten Guidelines From Sai

1. QUIT WORRYING:
Life has dealt you a blow and all you do is sit and worry. Have

you forgotten that I am here to take all your burdens and carry
them for you? Or do you just enjoy fretting over every little thing
that comes your way?

2. PUT IT ON THE LIST:
Something needs done or taken care of. Put it on the list. No,

not YOUR list. Put it on MY to-do-list. Let ME be the one to
take care of the problem. I can't help you until you turn it over
to Me. And although My to-do-list is long, I am after all...God.
I can take care of anything you put into My hands. In fact, if
the truth were ever really known, I take care of a lot of things
for you that you never even realize.

3. TRUST ME:
Once you've given your burdens to Me, quit trying to take them

back. Trust in Me. Have the faith that I will take care of all your
needs, your problems and your trials. Problems with the kids?
Put them on My list. Problem with finances? Put it on My list.
Problems with your emotional roller coaster? For My sake, put
it on My list. I want to help you. All you have to do is ask.

4. LEAVE IT ALONE:
Don't wake up one morning and say, "Well, I'm feeling much

stronger now, I think I can handle it from here." Why do you
think you are feeling stronger now? It's simple. You gave Me
your burdens and I'm taking care of them. I also renew your
strength and cover you in my peace. Don't you know that if I
give you these problems back, you will be right back where
you started? Leave them with Me and forget about them. Just
let Me do my job.

5. TALK TO ME:
I want you to forget a lot of things. Forget what was making

you crazy. Forget the worry and the fretting because you know
I'm in control. But there's one thing I pray you never forget.
Please, don't forget to talk to Me - OFTEN! I love YOU! I want
to hear your voice. I want you to include Me in on the things
going on in your life. I want to hear you talk about your friends
and family. Prayer is simply you having a conversation with
Me. I want to be your dearest friend.

6. HAVE FAITH:
I see a lot of things from up here that you can't see from where

you are. Have faith in Me that I know what I'm doing. Trust Me;
you wouldn't want the view from My eyes. I will continue to care
for you, watch over you, and meet your needs. You only have
to trust Me. Although I have a much bigger task than you, it
seems as if you have so much trouble just doing your simple
part. How hard can trust be?

7. SHARE:
You were taught to share when you were only two years old.

When did you forget? That rule still applies. Share with those
who are less fortunate than you. Share your joy with those
who need encouragement. Share your laughter with those
who haven't heard any in such a long time. Share your tears
with those who have forgotten how to cry. Share your faith
with those who have none.

8. BE PATIENT:
I managed to fix it so in just one lifetime you could have so

many diverse experiences. You grow from a child to an adult,
have children, change jobs many times, learn many trades,
travel to so many places, meet thousands of people, and
experience so much. How can you be so impatient then when
it takes Me a little longer than you expect to handle something
on My to-do-list? Trust in My timing, for My timing is perfect.
Just because I created the entire universe in only six days,
everyone thinks I should always rush, rush, rush.

9. BE KIND:
Be kind to others, for I love them just as much as I love you.

They may not dress like you, or talk like you, or live the same
way you do, but I still love you all. Please try to get along, for
My sake. I created each of you different in some way. It would
be too boring if you were all identical. Please, know I love each
of your differences.

10. LOVE YOURSELF:
As much as I love you, how can you not love yourself? You

were created by me for one reason only -- to be loved, and to
love in return. I am a God of Love. Love Me. Love your
neighbors. But also love yourself. It makes My heart ache when
I see you so angry with yourself when things go wrong. You
are very precious to me. Don't ever forget......

Satsang SAI - ISM

SAI - ISM
NATIONAL INTEGRATION PERSONIFIED IN SHIRDI SAI BABA '
If one man can make a million people to follow him, then that man

cannot but be considered as a great soul.

One among such saint is Shri Sai Baba of Shirdi. Still it is a
mystery whereform He came, who He was, to what religion He
belonged and what His real name was All that is said about Him,
is that He was called Sai Baba and that by His dress and food
habits he resembled a Muslim. Because He always uttered
"Allah Malik", it was presumed that He belongtd or have had the
association at early stages with the Muslim community.

On the other hand, the way in which He allowed Himself to be
worshipped with "Arathi" during His lifetime and adopted other
Hindu rituals, one can take Him to be a Hindu also.

PREACHED PURPOSE OF BIRTH

In practice, during his life-time, as per records officially
available from the government end, indicate that He gave only
'Vibhuti' to the people as "Prasad". Generally speaking, 'Vibhuti'

and keeping all the time burning fire (akhanda jyothi) before Him
go to prove His habits emanating from Hindu heritage. He left us
still guessing as to which sect He belonged to, because He
practised what was practised by the Muslims as well as by the
Hindus, both in the worshipping methods and observation of
rituals. One thing that He has achieved during his lifetime is that
He was able to personify Himself as a symbol of unity, bringing
together the two warring classes of the society, the Muslims
and Hindus. He had made every attempt to find unity in diversity

in that He allowed Himself to be a party to celebrate all the Hindu
festivals as well as those of the Muslims.

The Urus and the Rama Navami, two fairs and festivals were held
on the same day to unify the Hindus and the Mohamedans.

The principle of national integration, which we preach today, was
practised by Him then. He not only, at every stage of His life,
brought both the sections together but also made them mingle
together on the same platform and at the same place. This is
something unique in His life. Sri Rama Navami, Moharram
Ramzan, Krishna Jayanti, all these festivals of Hindus and
Muslims used to be held in the place where Sri Sai Baba lived
and He was the only presiding diety for both of them at Shirdi.

He ate meat with Muslims and vegetarian food with the Hindus.
It is surprising to find from the records as maintained by the
government that He allowed even goat to be sacrificed although
on the other hand He celebrated the birth of Krishna and Sri
Rama with great splendour and pomp. The biggest question-mark
now is, if a man can make two warring groups to follow him and
have faith in Him and make believe as the son of the God, then

we cannot but call Him as one possessing Godliness.

THE MIRACLE OF VIBHUTI

'Vibhuti' was used as a 'Prasad' and as a medicine for curing the
diseases, by Sri Sai Baba. This reminds us one of the most
important things in life and tickles our sentiments to the fact
that those who are born with life and blood will have to return to
the earth - the dead finding their body being reduced to ashes.
May be, He wanted to tell the mankind that you are made of
earth and you will have to go back to earth. Shri Sai Baba

possibly wanted the mankind to understand the dictum:
"I shall pass this way but once. Any good, therefore, which I

can do, let me do it now, for I shall not pass this way again".

Satsang A BRIEF LIFE SKETCH OF GURUDEV H. H. NARASIMHA SWAMIJI

In Pandharpur, Narasimha Swamiji cultivated devotion; but his aim
was to find out a Sadguru. He made enquiries and came to know,
that in Khedgaon (a place 34 miles from Poona) Sadguru Narayan
Maharaj was living. B.V.N. Swamiji approached him in his Ashram
for guidance. Narasimha Swamiji asked the Maharaj, where he could
find the Kohinoor, the richest gem. The Maharaj directed him to go
west wards. Narasimha Swamiji went to Meherbad, a place near
Ahmednagar and stayed with Meher Baba for sometime. Meher Baba
was considered to be a perfect master, who had toured round the
world. He was previously known as Meherwan, born in 1894 in a
Zorastrain family in Poona. Sri Meher Baba was a pupil of Sri
Upasani Baba of Sakori. Following the advice of Meher Baba's
disciples, Narasimha Swamiji proceeded to meet Sri Upasani
Baba.
Narasimha Swamiji was in pursuit of the Bhakli-marg. Sri Upasani

Baba advised him to stick to the Bhakli-marg and not fritter away
his powers in metaphysical speculation. He also advised him to
develop his knowledge through jap, bhajan and parayan etc. and
lead the life of a holy ascetic. Upasani Baba's teachings and
methods were against Narasimha Swamiji's opinions and
expectations about correct religious life. So, he left Sri Upasani
Baba in 1933 resolving never to go back. Sri Narasimha Swamiji
began his pilgrimage with a visit to the Siddharudha Mutt in Hubli.
Here, he met a Sadaka. That Sadaka was eager to go to some
place and settle down to a religious life. Narasimha Swamiji

promised to help him. This commitment made Swamiji to take
him on a pilgrim from Hubli to Pandharpur, Khedgaon. The Hubli
Sadaka thought that the only safe place for him was Sakori. Being
informed, that Sri Upasani Baba was not in Sakori, Sri Narasimha
Swamiji agreed to take the Sadaka to Sakori intending to proceed
to Dwarka immediately avoiding a meeting with Upasani Baba.
Reaching Sakori to his great astonishment he came to know, that
Sri Upasani Baba was there. He paid his respects and bowed to
him. The Sadaka told Swamiji that he was not allowed to stay in
Upasani Baba's Ashram. He requested Swamiji to speak on his
behalf. Upasani Baba agreed to allow that Sadaka to stay with
him in Sakori, if Narasimha Swamiji was prepared to stay with
him in doing the Sadhana, following his path without proceeding
further on pilgrimage.
Narasimha Swamiji had heard from Upasani Baba about Sri Sai

Baba of Shirdi (Shirdi is close to Sakori, six and a half kms. from
Sakori). He wrote in his book 'The Sage of Sakori', how much Sai
Baba had helped Sri Upasani Baba. Sri Narasimha Swamiji bagan
to collect information about Sri Sai Baba. He discovered, thai Sri
Sai Baba was really Sri Ram or Sri Krishna, born for the welfare
of mankind and he found in Sai, The Trinity. Upasani Baba's
reputation was so great that Mahatma Gandhi had approached
him in 1927 with a view to secure his blessings for national
welfare. Swamiji reasoned, if Sri Upasani Baba, the disciple, was
so great, his Master, Sri Sai Baba must be much greater, still it
did not occur to him to pay a visit to Sri Sai Baba's Mahasamadhi
till the dcstined hour arrived. With the permission and blessings of
Sri Upasani Baba, Narasimha Swamiji set out for Shirdi.

Satsang The Greatest Proof

The Greatest Proof
Love - How Baba Developed
Conferring of benefits is the surest means of the development

of love. Baba conferred benefits in a very peculiar, often in a
very mysterious way and the manner of benefit being conferred,
as well as the nature of benefit being conferred, equally tended
to develop the mysterious element of LOVE.
- By Mr. Usha Ranganathan

"I take it that,
When a man's life ends in death (What is called death),
Another mother gives him birth, with sturdier limbs
and brighter brain
And the old soul takes the road again
Whatever he has blessed or cursed,
come back to him in exact measure.
To make him wonder why this stranger helps
and the other hinders, not knowing that all these are his
own actions in exact measure.
Thus the old Soul is born again and again,
till it is cast in purest gold."

Recently, I was deeply moved by a plea from a broken hearted
mother. A short time ago her three-year old daughter was hit
by a car in the street and killed instantly. "Who is God and
where is He that He would allow this thing to happen?" She
asked, "How do we know there is anything beyond death? I
must know, somehow, that my daughter is not dead, just
gone for a while, and that I will see her again some day"

Out of my own experience, I understand this need of knowing.
It always comes when death invades one's personal world.
Prior to my husband, Dr. R. J. Rang Nathan's death in
December 1990, I had never seriously considered the subject
to immortality. In fact, for years I had been doing what many
do -ducking, pretending that my family members and I had a

long lease of life. We were still young. Why should we even
think about such gloomy matters? Then came that day when,
like the young mother, I needed answers. And I wanted them
to be authoritative answers, not just someone's opinions. So
I went directly to the most authoritative source I know - Sai
Satcharitra. Here I found solid help.

My first discovery was that Hemadpant never argued about
immortality any more than Sai Baba argued about the
existence and the love of God. The reason for these
assumptions is that wise men knew that certain matters
can never be proven by logic. They must be experienced.
Then we know, and not until then.

During His talks with devotees, Sai Baba pointed to them
the path that they should follow in order that they might
know. 'Believe Me, though I pass away, My bones in My
tomb will give you hope and confidence. Not only Myself
but My tomb would be speaking, moving and communicating
with those who surrender themselves wholeheartedly to Me."
"Watch Me." He seemed to be saying when He appeared

in the dream vision of Laxman Mama Joshi. He seemed to
be saying: "Watch I am ever Living." His assurance 'If you
spread your palms with devotion before Me, I am readily
with you day and night. Then you will know finally and

forever that there is no death.

Satsang Why Worship Sai Baba?

Why Worship Sai Baba?
By M. Rama Rao

What Kids Need From Their Fathers
1. Someone who shows his love for them
2. Someone who will spend time with them
3. Someone who can see the world through a child's eye
4. Someone who will set limits
5. Someone whom they feel proud to imitate.

Despite all that mothers can provide, children feel safe and
protected with their fathers.
Nothing can change the need for a dad.

I attended the 'Guru Poonima' celebrations at Sai Spiritual
Centre on 12th July 1995 and on our return trip home, my
grand-daughter asked me : "Why so elaborate pooja and
rituals? Sai Baba has stated simple remembrance of My
name as 'Sai' 'Sai' will do away all the sins of speech and
hearing'. I pondered for a while and told her that she will have
a convincing reply from Sai Baba Himself by that evening.

When we went home, we had a guest who had just returned
from Africa. He was describing African sanctuaries and other
places he visited there. He showed us several photographs
taken in Africa.

I had almost forgotten the morning's incident. In the evening,
my grand daughter said that Sai Baba is ever living to help
and guide all and she herself had a unique experience in this
connection when she asked me in the morning - Why worship
Sai Baba?

Her experience is something, which is a direct reply of Sai Baba
Himself. Sai Baba anticipated the psychological difficulties of
His devotees who have been worshipping their family Gods
through traditional forms of worship by insisting that they
continue to worship their family Gods with undiminished reverence.
She told me that the very fact of a guest coming to our house and
narrating his experiences of African sanctuaries is a Sai-miracle.
Sai Baba has made her learn that in the African sanctuaries where
wild life is protected, there are guide posts and shelters where lost
tourists may take shelter and procure information about correct
routes and directions. Our temples, churches, mosques etc., are
like these guideposts set in the wildlife sanctuary for the guidance
and protection of toast tourists. Sai Baba is that facet of the
Supreme who out of irrepressible love and compassion is such a
guide always on the look out for the lost tourists and waiting
eagerly with open arms to welcome them. That is why it is easier
for all of us to take shelter in Sai Baba from the terrors lurking in
the forests of this 'samsara.'

Regarding the elaborate rituals in worshipping Veda Vyasa,
Krishna, Shankaracharya and the lineage of Gurus upto Sai Baba,
Sri Narasimha Swamiji and Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji at Sri Sai
Spiritual Centre, she understood that the Supreme Being containing
all Gods, avatars, prophets and Gurus like the 'Viswaroopa' revealed
in the 11th chapter of Bhagavad-Gita. Sai Baba repeatedly stressed
on 'Allah malik' and thereby tunes the minds of His devotees to the
Supreme Being. She concluded that Sai Baba insisted on continuing
traditional methods of worship.
Sai Baba - the 'Antaryami' seated in my heart - in His own inimitable
manner had convinced my granddaughter in less than ten hours of
her argument with me. This transformation itself is a Sai Leela par
Excellence.
