Satsang Santhathanay

Satsang Santhathanay

Santhathanay lived in Mumbai with his family. His younger brother was 4yrs old when he started getting convulsions. The family tried all kinds of medicines and pills but of no avail. Once a friend of the family suggested electro-therapy. They took the child to the doctor who inserted a small rod below his ear. The doctor promised them that the child would be convulsion free in a few days. But no such thing happened. To add to the child’s misery, he started running a high temperature. Again a slew of doctors came and gave medical aid. But the fever continued. After a few days the child took a turn for the worse. He became cold and clammy, his pulse was feeble and he was in a state of shock. Again the doctors were summoned, after giving some treatment they gave up hope. A friend of the family happened to stop by. Seeing the distraught state of the family he suggested, they pray to Baba. The brother at once went and stood in front of Baba’s photograph, and earnestly sent a prayer. About an hour latter, the boy started sweating profusely. He cried out loudly saying, “Baba has come and He is calling me, Pangya do not worry, you will be alright.” Them Santhathanay remembered he had taken his brother a year ago to Shirdi and Baba had called him Pangya and given him a coin. Following this incident the child recovered from the high fever and gradually the convulsive disorder also abated.

Baba gave his tooth to Kashi Bai

The bridegroom was from Niphad so Kashi Bai left her parents home in Shirdi and accompanied her husband at Niphad. She was quite happy in her in-laws home. They were farmers and were economically stable. A year later, her husband died and Kashi Bai was pregnant. A son was born whom she named Madhav. When Madhav was 5-6 months old, she returned to Shirdi and stayed with her parents. Kashibai did all the household chores and looked after Madhav.

Her parents were rather poor. When Madhav was about 2 years old, she decided to work in the fields. Everyday she brought Madhav to Dwarakamai early in the morning and then went to work. At dusk she used to take Madhav home. Thus Madhav was left entirely in Baba’s care when Madhav became 4 years old he started doing chores for Baba and Baba gave him 1 Rupee daily. Kashi Bai however struggled trying to make both ends meet. One day when she came to pick up Madhav, she accosted Baba and said ‘Baba, you give all and sundry huge amounts of money and how come you give my Madhav but 1 Rupee, even though he does your chores, this is not fair”, she said.

Calmly Baba replied, “the money I give to others can stop at any time, but I will never stop giving money to Madhav “Me Tumche Sarkya anathi mahile cha matti aahe” (I am the saviour of destitute women like you)

Kashi Bai could not understand what Baba was saying and she yelled “Oh my house and (matti) died 5 years ago.

Baba flew into a rage hearing this. Seeing his ferocious form Kashi Bai stealthily took Madhav home. Frightened, she did not go to masjid for 2-3 days. Baba however kept asking where Madhav was. Then he sent a messenger to fetch him. Kashi Bai and Madhav came to Dwarkamai and stood meekly before Baba. Baba smiled and beckoned to them to come close.

Then gently pulling out one of his loose tooth, he placed it in a handful of Udi. Then he tired in an old rag and gave it to Kashi Bai saying ‘Keep this safely with you, Allah, Bala Karega.’ (Allah will do good).

Upon returning home, Kashi Bai made a Talisman of the tooth and Udi and tied it around Madhav’s right arm.

With the passage of time Kashi Bai died and Madhav Rao decided to go with his family to Niphad.

How did Babas tooth became enshrined in Shivaji Nagar In Temple in Pune.

Damodar Rasne (Dammu Anna Shirdi Sai Baba Sansthan No.25) moved with his family to Pune. They bought a “Chawal” (multi storied building) in Shivaji Nagar. His son, Nana Saheb bought two rooms in that Chawal and converted it into Shrine in 1945. Devotees flocked there to attended Aarthis and festivals from far and near.

Nana Saheb realized that soon a temple would have to be built to accommodate the devotees. He sought the help of another devotee named Nicam. Nicam was working in the Police Department in Khed and upon Nana Sahibs request, he resigned and came to Pune.

A small temple was built in front of Rasne Chawal and photographs are worshipped with due formalities. Nicam put his energy into the building of the temple, the care and maintenance of it and overall administration. One night he had a vivid dream in which Baba told him to go to Niphad and get his tooth from Madhav.

This was easy, as he had met Madhav Rao several times at Shirdi. Simultaneously Madhav Rao dreamt of Baba who said “Give the tooth the person who will come to you tomorrow”.

Nicam went to Madhav Rao’s home in Niphad and found Madhav Rao waiting for him. Madhav Rao was surprised to hear about Nicam’s dream and he happily handed over the Talisman.

In 1950, the Staphan of the photograph and Baba’s tooth and chillum was done by Shri B.V. Narasimha Swamiji. The tooth and chillum are encased in Paduka of Baba in the temple.
